just finished harves' book...
not sure what to make of it, i thought it was a little to short, then again he has never been a man who has spoken in great detail.
what has everybody who has read it thought of it?

It's Harves-
as one interviewer said- even though he didn't know him- he felt it was how he spoke- and I agree
Not long winded about things that are simple.
I felt readable by many ages

I expected it to be different prior to reading it.
Possibly a little more insightful.
I heard Nathan Buckley talking about his book on SEN a few weeks back and he said it wasn't a kicks and stats book.
I think Harves is a little like that in the way he progressively recollects games and incidents mainly how we know them already.
That's not meant to be critical as I enjoyed reading it as it was a trip down memory lane.
Basically I expected more of what we don't know and less of what we already do.
Maybe that's because we are hard core fans ?

Not sure what the club dietician would think of that !

read a few other AFL footballers books and id say this was one of the most "bland" books ive read.....
wont make it to the top of any best sellers . . . .
or my missus' oprah book club anytime soon.

in any or all of the interviews Harves has given this year he has repeateadly said what his main focus has been- getting the best out of himself- not worrying overly about others perceptions and expectations, saintbob wrote:Lets face it, its about one of most humble "Superstars" ever to play AFL so it was never going to be to in depth look at me type of bookbecause thats the way the man is!!!
In the interview with Mike Sheahan he said how he 'survived' ( that wasn't the word but suits) all the coaches was because he took each on face value and treated them as he had been taught to treat his teachers and those 'in authority', learning from each
On reflecting on this in relation to his book it is exactly as he is- he is never going to 'dish the dirt', or espouse to others how to ' do it his way' .
he will do as he has said to the younger players at the club- do it to the best of your ability, Keep working at it, and do everything you possibly can to achieve......
his book is that- understated but fact... and although it may not be ' in depth' as I imagine Buckley's is ( he does like to TELL others how to do it) but to me would be a book that you could give to a young player, teen or older that they can read quickly or pick up and put down... and combined with his career and longevity is thus an example.
