Xavier CLARKE ? !!

Post: # 664787Post Eastern »

Does anyone know where X and the club are at? There were reports circulating around in August suggesting that he was about to re-sign. I haven't heard or read anything since. Does anyone know whats going on?

Getting this far into October without re-signing is not a good sign, if indeed that is the case !!

i heard the club shopped him around with only Port Adelaide showing interest but the price was wrong...

common sense would suggest that he'll get a 1 year performance based contract

That "Potential" factor is the only thing saving him at the moment. Surely wouldnt delist him, im sure plenty of clubs would snap him up for free in the draft and quite rightly we had to shop him around in case an offer to good to refuse came up.

1 year contract imo maybe 2 IF he can finally get things right

X will come good next year, with a full preseason behind him.

Look to see the Clarke brothers dominate next year.

Was thinking the same thing skeptic,

Every year it's "he will come good with a full pre-season"

I think next year is his last year if he breaks down constantly again.

Happy to see them dominate but i dont understand how you think that way with X but think completely different with Kosi.

Playing half a season he still contributes more than blokes like Ferguson, Fiora, Howard, Gwilt, yes some of them will get delisted but some will stay.

He doesn't deserve big money, and must get a peformance based deal, but should be kept on until his football output drops below standard.

Its up to our fitness staff to get him on the ground...

Too many instances of this long term injury stuff at Moorabbin, either we recruit the wrong type of body type or we deveop them poorly...

sadly I agree :(
he looked to be having a pretty good preseason last summer and it didn't seem to get him very far this year....

good luck X, hope things click for you in 09!
would be great to see the both Clarke bros firing for the Saints!

I wonder if the reason for the delay is that the club are not offering the same salary as he previously has been on.
It would be prudent of the club to offer him a deal barely above base which could then include a heavy performance based component. I would imagine that he may not like that very much and be stalling hoping for a better deal. If that is the case he will probably have to sign it eventually because if he goes to the PSD and puts a high price on his head I can't see anyone paying him highly. His output just has not justified it.

X will sign for another year. The club tried to trade him to no avail.

I doubt X will go into the draft.

Hope he feels he has a point to prove.

The difference is the attitude and body language of the Clarkes compared to Kosi.

I must admit I was worried about Raph's commitment for a long time. I had him and Kosi in the same boat (lazy and not really interested at training), but it appears Raph's problem was medical and is now under control.

X always looks keen and eager to have a go. If he can just get his body right (I believe it was at the end of the season) and keep it right, he will be a great asset to the Saints.

X will have a big year in 2009, there is a place in our best 22 for him he just needs to have another strong pre season and play early... he can do a job at HF for us and become a fixture in the 22... 8-) 8-)
With Raph playing well that will help too..... :D
Big year ahead for the X man..... :) :)

Our best is yet
to come......

X......is he a better footballer than C.J.???????

By the length of the straight, and the fact that CJ was playing in his spot due to injury hurt us bad going fwd......CJ did an admirable job in a few player absence (should have been Birss) but was the reason why we are not top 2.

Players like CJ...in the side
mean that good side cannot beat great sides, but can be competative
and
Good side consistently beat poor sides, but not smash them

CJ deserved his spot yes, which is why I rated his performance as admirable.....he was in the side due to

X.Clarke's injury
Baker's injury
Armo's lack of development
Birss's lack of leg speed
Fiora's lack of form

yes he deserved his spot.....

If you were an observant of our set-up, you would understand that CJ played as a High Half Forward, often in a defensive/accountable role on a running back. He played a couple of games further up the ground when Ball/Dempster went down later and Rob Eddy took his role.

A tool.......maybe...a realist, definitely

I'd hope X doesn't even get a look in unless he manages to put on a few kilo's....looked like an u15's player when he came in against Essendon.

I for one hope X signs!

If he can get to a level of fitness and play a full pre season
he will become the player we know he can be.

Like Kosy, he has to stop being a Kamokazi!
Not every contest is worth breaking your neck for.

Come on X, do the right thing mate! 8-)

Agree with Full Monty.

It appeared that Thomas gave X "the message" about being physical and putting his frame in the contest.

So we saw him on a wing, charging in and throwing his body at it - and his form dropped off.

Still he has that tendency to throw himself in with reckless dis-regard, with no objective except putting his body in the contest and causing himself injury.

He is not the "in and under" type Thomas tried to make him into.

Go when it is your turn, and X should learn that.

He has nothing to prove in regards courage, and should return to his natural game as a skilful, running player with good leaping skills.

Needs licence, and Thomas took that from him.
