3AW rumour: X Clarke & Gwilt for Pies' Pick 11
no deal is finalised but on 3aw. said that we are giving up gwilt and x.clarke for pick 11 which i think is a massive plus. although i like gwilt is a good player i rather have a gun.
we have two first round picks we could get a tall adn a midfielder in the first two picks. if we do this we it will sure up our team in 2-4 and could bring us a flag considering how young out core group is.
thoughts.....

pick 11. With pick 11 and 13 we'd be sure to unearth a gun who'd give us years of service, compared to a gun who'd give us just 3 or sobig_mac_evoy5 wrote:and i just had another thought. that we could be making a play to trade that for o'keefe becase of lyon. but i am rahter have the pick for more long term sucess instead of looking short term.
would u rather pick 11 of o'keefe????

What I heard on SEN was Xman, Gwilt and our round 2 pick to Collingwood for their round 1.
If this has any basis, puts us in a great position , but would like to see us do a secondary deal to get back into the second round.

Pick 5 didn't not too long agomick13 wrote:Pick 11 and 13 would get us two very decent players.
Swift, Robinson, Tregove, Yarren, McKernan, Blease, Roughead.
Take your pick of 2!
Blease an Tregove!

would only be a bargain if 11 turns out ok...

Gwilt is at best an honest toiler - has good skills with the ball and good body size for his height (188cm) but does not bring the impact those skills need to bring. Too short for a key position which means he has to add dimensions to his game. Not clever enough on goal to play forward.
One of those positions we now have to improve on in List Management.
But I would not be considering moving X. Clarke on.
I have a view that both Clarke's are, and always have been, intregal to a very competative St Kilda side.
His brother copped plenty of flack (more than even Koschitzke!) and look at where he is now - just 30 odd games into his career and playing out of position as a defender.
St Kilda is NOT in a position where it has to get rid of its best players.
And remember what picks we got the likes of Beetham, McQualter and Armitage at.
All first round picks weren't they?
There are NO guarantees, so why punt?
And Lyon says you need to give Drafted players a couple of years for there to be an impact, so none in 2009, or even 2010 judging by Armitage.

id much rather this one
gives us 2 first rounders,
with a higher chance of getting a gun
the port deal
only gives us one, and we could still manage to pull a fiora out with 4

I'm not sure....Clarke / Gwilt and a 2nd Rounder for a 1st rounder.
Theirs a couple of issues to this:
Firstly, it means we have to take 2 extra players in the draft. Either the coaching staff is not considering delisting many players (VERY possible because of the way our contracts are) - Or we're looking at going very deep into the draft...
Another possibility is that the club is very confident of picking up cousins, or another player in the PSD.
Not sure - a 3rd pick and i'd definately go.

I'd leap at either deal if they're genuine. The Port deal is tempting as it gives us the first pick out of guys not named Watts, Naitanui or Rich (barring a surprise). We're guaranteed a shot at somebody like Hurley, Sidebottom or Ziebell. Any one of those guys would look great in Saints colours.
OTOH, there's plenty of guys who will go later who are very talented. Swift, Johnston, Trengove, McKernan, Blease, Heyne. There's a bunch of guys. Either way, I don't see losing Gwilt or Clarke, as a tragedy. They're both fringe players who have shown nothing more than flashes. I won't believe either rumour is genuine until it happens because it sounds too good to be true.
