Mark Jamar

Post: # 659651Post MadSaintFan »

If, as is written in The Age this morning, that Stkilda are keen on Mark Jamar is true - then I'm throwing my belief that the Saints are on the right path out the window.

He is an absolute hack. A VFL player at best I'm sure you will all agree. Please do not do this saints!

"Hack" is a strong word. Personally I would see Jamar as being a cut above Rix or (in his 2008 condition) Gardi.
But Jamar at his very best is firmly lodged in GOP territory

As with all these things, it will depend upon the asking price.

But the seeming continuing fixation by the club on the ruck surprises me. Posters on here, even B4E, haved moved on. Other clubs seem interested in trading their ruckmen away. But, if the reports are true, our club seems to want to be a net importer of ruckmen.

I didn't think we lost the big games in 2008 against the Dogs, Cats and Hawks in the ruck. But, if the club can achieve rucking-based recovery, then it will be all worthwhile

The article does say "mild interest" from memory - if you got him cheap he might be a reasonable back up.

They are looking for a ruckman... not all ruckmen. They'll try and get 1.

Our ruck stocks are pretty thin without MG and if King gets injured.

People need to understand the mechanics of list development and trade week.

I'm happy for us to get a ruckman on the cheap (like how we got King) as a replacement for Rix/Gardiner.

If we could pick up White for nothing (eg: Pick 95) and delist Rix, I'd be happy with that.

A year or two out of White would allow us to survive while McEvoy develops.

Either way, you're going to delist Rix either this year or next year, and the same for Gardiner. So why not, for the same price, get the same from White - who can offer a heck of a lot more in that time?

I think Melbourne will want a third rounder for Jamar so I'd shy away from that and go for White.

Please...no more recycled hack ruckmen...and hack is the right term. They dropped White at the end of the year to play Jamar in the desperate hope he would show enough to be tradeable....lets not fall for it again.
Monkhorst, Clarke, Gardiner, Brooks, Ackland....off the top of my head.

Agree..

I would rather play a raw McEvoy. He mightn't get a kick but at least he will have a future unlike Jamar.

You left out Bingham, Flanagan, Cook, Tilley, Misso, and Windbanks.

And the games he did play he didn't show anything. The ruckman from Melbourne who showed a bit was Paul Johnson, he'd be worth a look for the right price.

With Cordy gone, Jamar a 'hack', is Warnock still a chance for us? Freo won't take pick 24 from the Blues (where's the sack of unmarked bills?), would be be interested for pick 13??? He's a ready made ruck/forward.

A 10 foot poll is not long enough away from Jamar... No.. Never...

As for Warnock, I dont know where the idea came from that he is a ruckman/"forward"... Hasnt shown anything going forward... Hasnt shown much anywhere on a football field actually...

Once again the trade period throws up hacks that become stars for a week... Jade Rawlings all over again... I just hope we dont think someone like Tim Boyle is of Jade Rawlings level... We have enough reserves players!!..

Well, by 'ready made', I meant, he has recently played that role at AFL level, as opposed to a rookie draft pick who hasn't (e.g. like McEvoy, but with one game less experience). I'm all up for avoiding retreads, and I guess Warnock's ability is debatable, but there's enough clubs bidding for him to lead me to think that he's got the goods in someone's opinion.

With no hope of a Natanui or Cordy, are we dealing with unknown quantities in the ruck stock by the time we reach pick 13?

with such a supposed strong draft coming up do we want to trade away our first round pick though?

Well, let's hope we're not looking at a ruck at pick 13, because if we are, that would be a costly move IMO. We need pacy midfielders.

I dunno...I guess it depends on how much the club values it's current ruck stock...do we need an immediate star, or another WIP (like Big Mac)? Personally, I'd rather see a developing midfielder m'self...was surprised when the club came out and said we were looking at Cordy for pick 13.

Just throwing Warnock out there to see what other people's opinions were...no strong feelings either way.

True, but then I would have thought that our forward line without Gehrig and Hamill and our midfield without Harves and with Joey, Dal and Ball (through proneness to injury) being unreliable contributors were perhaps bigger worries

But whatever. I'm in favour of getting a good ruckman if we can.

The key is to have 12 ruckmen and 6 mids in case we drop the ball. All we need to do is handpass it over the top of the opposition and play keepings off until we are close enough to goal... then shhot.

I think the following analysis sums up Jamar - he is a dud:

"Jamar has a career game time average of just 56 minutes which indicates how little opportunity he has been given, however when given the chance he has struggled to have a major impact.

He is the only player in the past decade to play more than 50 games yet average fewer than five disposals per match.

His ruckwork is also poor, highlighted by the fact that only 16% of his hitouts went to advantage last season - ranked in the bottom three of the competition.

His kicking efficiency also dropped to a poor 67% in 2007 while his contested marks and goals also went down".

From AFL 2008 Prospectus

Jamar is a spud of the biggest king and is worse than Knobel. I bet even Jason Blake hits more to advantage than Jamar.

I'd offer a half eaten hand sandwhich for Jamar. That is all. Seriously.

What do you guys think of Rix?

We clearly need another decent ruckman for that spot on the list. What do you want to do with that spot on the list we need for a back-up ruckman?

After all, King's body might fall apart next year and we might not have M Gardiner to call on.

...leaving us with Rix, McEvoy and Kosi - none of whom have shown themselves to be decent ruckmen at AFL level.

from what ive seen in a couple of vfl games,
jamar moves very well
and has a thumping left foot,
which ive seen spear balls into the foward line aswell.
i wouldnt mind picking him up
so long as the price is right.
never got a game at melbourne, coz jeff white always said he wanted to do it himself

Agree EFC. All it takes is for King to go down...

I don't think some really understand just how fragile our ruck division really is.

In a straight list place swap for Rix... yes.

In the end, we'll have to see who else is out there. If McIntosh and Warnock aren't gettable, then we'll have no choice but to recruit a GOP for back up.
