Selling Home Games - Disgraceful
With Tigers, Blues and Us selling games to play at Gold Coast next year i just thought we were finished with this.
Also seems like we are going to draw the short straw and have to play Brisbane up their.
Such bulls***.
With the disaster of Tasmania, we going down the same track?
Cannot believe it.

Do you have any other suggestions for making up that money?

It didnt work because we were mentally weak. Still are. We need to toughen up if we want to be in the business of winning premierships.
Tasmania really helped keep us alive at that point. Got dollars in the coffers and really set us up in a good financial position. The only way I can see of not needing to do this, is to re-negotiate a new deal with Telstra Dome. We've always been shafted by Collo in regards to the money we make playing our home games there and this really needs to be looked at.
Its the future of the game unfortunately. I dont like it, in fact I hate the idea of playing home games away from home, but its something that needs to be done to keep up financially with the Collingwoods, West Coasts and Adelaides.

Hm..I'm a bit torn on this.
Whilst I love the idea of having 11 home games at TD, foregoing a trip to Perth AND making some cash is not the worst option.
Carlton and Richmond are doing it to, so its more a case of scratching the AFL's back rather than an act of financial neccessity like Tassie was. There are worse things than the AFL owng you a favour I'm thinking
Agree though if we are the only ones playing Brissy weve been dudded. Id have made it part of the deal that we DONT play the Lions. This is supposed to be about promoting the game prior to a new team entering the comp, not getting support for one side prior to relocation like the North experiment was. I guess tho that the only way you have a chance of getting a full house, and therefore justifying GC7 is involving Brisbane...or Collingwood/Essendon.
Oh...and just an aside, Sam, any chance you could give the swear filter a rest when you post..just occasionally??

I've got a feeling part of our 'draw submission' was a plan to play Brisbane and then a game on GC in successive rounds so as to make some sort of 'camp' up there?saint66au wrote:

The AFL may well have given us exactly what we asked for - we'll just have to wait to see.
that sounds OK..surely even with this warped thing the AFL laughingly call a draw we couldnt play Brissy 2 weeks running lmaoMr Magic wrote:I've got a feeling part of our 'draw submission' was a plan to play Brisbane and then a game on GC in successive rounds so as to make some sort of 'camp' up there?saint66au wrote:

We have decent following up there too, because of Roo, Gilbo and Armo.hotdish wrote:We beat the kangas there this year, so why not get another game for some good $$$
We need to put money into our medicos, admin, coaches etc...the money isn't gonna just come from no-where.
Its a great move.
It would be silly not to utilise that support in lieu of playing an extra game at Subi...
Spot on! We now drop a game at Subiaco and GET PAID to play at the Gold Coast. It is a no-brainer! Also, much easier for the guys to recover from playing at the GC than it is at Subiaco.Mr Magic wrote:Haven't seen teh draw but I do remember seeing a post on here recently where we are giving up a home game to play on GC but in return we 'lose' an away game at Subiaco?
If that is really the case then how can we complain about getting paid 300k-400k to travel to the gold coast instead of Subiaco?
Not sure what the OP is complaining about, but I suppose you don't really need a reason to around here lately.......
It will be fine our draw. I would much rather play West Coast or Freo at the Gold Coast as a home game where its a 50/50 playing level then travel to Subi. Members will be compensated with a "home" game against a lowly ranked Melb club like NM, WB or Melbourne and gives us more exposure to the Queensland market. As long the AFL doesnt go against its word and gives us 2 games in WA, Im happy.
Just a question, when was the last time we played ONE game in a season in WA? Every year go over there twice, cant recall when the last time we went there for just the one game...

I agree. I would rather a greater chance of 4 points than $400k. This new board really hasn't bought much new to the table really have they?Sam23 wrote:With Tigers, Blues and Us selling games to play at Gold Coast next year i just thought we were finished with this.

Sorry - it seems simple maths to me
$27,000 clear by playing game at Telstra Dome with attendance of approx 30,000 - 35,000
$400,000 AFL payment for taking home game to Gold Coast.
Have a Gold Coast icon playing for us - Roo
Sponsor satisfied with increased national exposure
2 year deal.
Major development in Seaford
How could our board pass it up - it would be fiscally irresponsible for them to say NO.

It seems the AFL casts a favourable eye on those who sell games.
I used to be opposed to it, but now it seems like the league skews the draw in favour of those who sell-out, so to speak.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

we have just as much chance of winning anywhere such as carrara.
and its worth 450K or thereabouts.
in a world of AFL economics wer take it.
unless those 10,000 or so supporters we have take up memnberships next year then its the right move.
dont compare it to tassie.
its chalk and cheese.
you do what's best for the club's bottom line.
there is a stklida fan base in SE queensland.
after living there for the last 5 years ive seen it first hand.
its not like we are playing in darwin FFS.

We are guaranteed $400,000 for playing a "Home" game on the Gold Coast. That is a LOT of money and will effect the bottom line of the club.
I heard a few media reports today saying that the AFL would be "Looking After" the three clubs who volunteered to play home games on the Gold Coast. This would be in the form of a favorable draw for the next two years
Remember, this arrangement is for 2 YEARS ONLY. It will add $800,000 to our bottom line and give us a favorable draw for the next 2 years. Not a bad deal as far as I am concerned. And YES, members will be compensated with a "designated" away game at TD !!
