hawks sent out message to our darling primma donna's
we gave up tassie & maybe our long term FUTURE cause our bunch of little darlings couldnt win a game there
for a club like ourselves to chuck away 1.2 mill bucks a yr cause a few primma donna's found the going tough has been shown for what it is...a cop out
its not only the darlings on the field but the little darlings sitting in the stands who would rather see our club go to the wall than give up one or 2 games a yr so we can prosper
hawthorn footy club have shown us what real planning is all about being mentaly tough both on & off the field
imagine our little darlings in the pressure & toughness of todays game...
imagine our darling supporters in the pressure & toughness of todays game
ya cant do that to dear (insert name)
we blame the umpires
we blame bloody dimwit
we blame the good lord
not only do the players need to toughen up physically & mentally but us supporters to
next yr everytime someone cops a smack in the gob dont complain think of it as a practise run for g/final day
i'm bloody spewing
today my son's won a flag
last yr my mate won a flag (geel)
the yr before another good mate won a flag(eagles)
the yr before my wife won a flag(swines)
the yr before a workmate won a flag(port)
& here we are looking further & further from the prize

its the attack on the footy shown today that makes me envious?
players prepared to dish one out & MORE importantly COP ONE in return
as soon as one of our darling cops one ,gets brushed aside, lead under the ball etc everyone starts screaming blue murder
heard interview with mal brown on the radio yesterday (know he's yesterday's news) as to what advice he would give his son
3 simple things
never take your eye off the footy
attack the footy
& dont take a backward step
how many do we have that do that

I watched today's game with someone who spoke to a few hawk insiders during the week & they were apparently happy to say that they felt a few of our players sh!t themselves when the pressure was on last week. Whether that is right or wrong the perception is probably as important as the reality.
Whlst no-one can change the past we can certainly aim to toughen up for the future.

Re: hawks sent out message to our darling primma donna's
I watched the match with my daughter (she is 17yo and comes with me most weeks), and we both shook our heads at the physicality of the match. You just could not see our blokes standing up to that sort of pressure.
The hits were incredible, yet they all got up again (sometimes a bit groggily).
It was a great match - 100 minutes of full-on pressure.
While I was so jealous that we were not there (even my anti-football wife commented wouldn't it be good if St Kilda was there), I just wonder whether we would have been blown away.
There was an interesting comment from Alastair Clarkson in realfooty:
"We've actually tracked Geelong, St Kilda and Port Adelaide really closely as teams that have put their list together in the right type of manner and been very, very well coached, and (two of those teams) … have gone on to salute. So Geelong's one of those sides, ironically. I would still expect Geelong to continue to be a dominant side next year."

The one which has failed is us.
The other interesting comment in the first sentence in this topic is about the Hawks taking on Tassie when we took the easy way out.
Both tenants at Waverly Park, but Hawthorn held out against the AFL while we took a short term guarantee of revenue based on bums on seats shortfall to move to Docklands. The result was that Hawthorn got included in the AFL/Mirvac deal and end up owning the oval and grandstand at Waverley Park. Now that's an asset worth talking about!
Tassie - we had a greater heritage from Tasmanian football, yet we tossed it away because Grant Thomas and the players didn't like going down there (preferring to play home games indoors at Telstra Dome). We gave away a heritage link, a membership base and a Tasmanian State Government sponsorship opportunity. The Hawks have done brilliantly with Tassie!
The Hawks left Glenferrie Oval and set us a new home in an elite training facility at Waverley Park. The place is an icon. We have had two false starts, with a third recently announced. There is no way that Belvedere Park will ever compare to the facility that the Hawks are in, in prominence, facilites or prestige.
The Hawks have embraced membership drives. They've gone out to the people, with membership stalls at community events. St Kilda wouldn't do it, despite invitations. They've also rewarded loyalty in their members, with annual scarves showing the number of years of consecutive membership.
The Hawks have left us in their dust. As Clarko says, they might have monitored St Kilda's football management. But they won't have been using our Board performance as any yardstick.

No, Plugger, JK is of course NOT the Premier. But he's an influential former politician well know for doing what ever he will to get his own way. I'm just doing the maths... perhaps I'm just a cynical bastard!
I think you'll find Tas Gov pays millions directly to Hawthorn. So said an ABC radio report radio about it up here yesterday. General disquiet among Tasmanians that in times of economic squeeze that an entire state devotes millions to a Melbourne club in circs when Tas could never legitimately sustain its own team, and when AFL had clearly enunciated a preferred view for GC followed by Western Sydney. I must say, I sympathise.
Re TAC, there's a legitimate public safety message being conveyed - not to well when players at relevant clubs get on the sauce and drive mind you! - but still, I understand the motive of that particular agency.
With Tasmania, I'm not so sure.
Anyway, interesting topic...

Absolutely agree about the legitimate public safety message, but isn't raising profile the point of sponsorship?Thinline wrote:Re TAC, there's a legitimate public safety message being conveyed - not to well when players at relevant clubs get on the sauce and drive mind you! - but still, I understand the motive of that particular agency.
Which is what the Tasmanian Gov't is seeking through sponsorship of the Hawks.
And where is the premiership cup going next week? - Tasmania!
I reckon there'll be a fair bit of Tasmanian footage on our TV screens when the cup's down there.
http://news.realfooty.com.au/sport/hawk ... -4paw.html
Hawthorn president Jeff Kennett hopes the Hawks' grand final triumph will finally convince Tasmania to let go its vision for an AFL club permanently based there, and fully embrace the new premiers.
Kennett said he, Hawthorn chief executive Ian Robson and coach Alastair Clarkson would head for Tasmania next week with the premiership cup - taking it straight to Premier David Bartlett's office.

Roger, I too am statrting to loose the faith. Will I ever get to see another Grand Final in my lifetime?
Sitting here today, I can honestly say that I have ABSOLUTELY no faith in our administration to deliver a flag.
Ross Lyon can only work with what he is given.
What is the plan going forward from "Footy First"? The Frankston debacle doesn't really fill me with a lot of confidence.

Whats with the "losing faith" bit? We would have something to be concerned about if we were North Melbourne, or Western Bulldogs.
After a poor start we achieved a top four spot (grabbed it from Adelaide!) and went to a PF. I'm NOT saying that we are ready to roll up to the "G" next year and take the flag...but all is not lost. Anyway if you think like that then thats the way we will continue to go! There is way to get the club to listen and that is to go to the AGM and SPEAK OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let 'em know how you feel!!!!! E-mail them!!! Petition them with your complaints. The club needs a bloody good kick up the arse! We need to get PROFESSIONAL off the field as a means of getting success on the paddock!

The fact is we have VERY FEW PLAYERS in the side who'll fly the flag for us, and then even fewer players to back up those who do.
Whilst I think many believe we're a considerable way off a flag because of our lack of depth and hardness, it's a mazing what can happen between seasons. We're up there still, we're top 4, not bottom 4. Time will tell.
I'll puke if I have to hear about any more words of "back to back" Premiers. We all saw perfectly well that regardless of the odds and what everyone thinks, you just can't tell what the players will bring to the table on game day!

What a wonderful science is hindsight!!!!!! If you had asked our members three years ago if they wanted the club to continue with the "tassie experiment" we all know what the answer would have been!!!
Hawthorn kept their nerve and apllied themselves to EMBRACING the idea of building a base in Tassie. The Saints on the other hand saw a chance to "take the money and run" when onfield results were'nt forthcoming panic set in! Of course we ALL knew this at the time
Finger pointing and hunting out scapegoats NOW does nothing to win us a Flag!!!!! (that can only come with hard work from a united and strong CLUB!)
Roger, your OP sux!

Correct - Hawthorn receives $3 million per year. It's made up of:saintly wrote:hawthorn receives 3 million per year for 5 years directly from the tasmainian govt.
* $1.8 million/year sponsorship
* $1.2 million/year for football matches.
Remember we got subsidies for our matches in Launceston, so that is what the $1.2 million is.
The benefit of the sponsorship and subsidy has been evaluated. Here is a link to the document:
http://www.tourismtasmania.com.au/pdf/H ... alysis.pdf
There will always be people who disagree with decisions, and that's fair enough. Some people oppose decisions for rational reasons, some oppose them for good (but misinformed) reasons, and some just because they oppose the decision makers.
Sure some people will say spend the money on education or health rather than on a Melbourne football club. That's always a good heart-tugger. But generating action in the local economy by a bit of pump-priming is good sense. Economic activity brings the fruits to society. Governments have a key role and ability to stimulate the economy.
Have a read of the document.
