question :

in order to get to st.kilda - could cousins put a price on his head - lets say equivalent to what we paid harvey/gehrig this year - and thus rule out teams who can't afford him - and he slots into harvey's cap space.

does cousins qualify for veteran's status against the salary cap ?

If Ben wants to play for us and we want him, then he doesn't need to put a price on his head or tell other clubs he doesn't want to be there.

He simply needs to be ambigious when they ask him the obvious questions.

Nobody will pick him up unless he's 100% committed to playing there.

im sure there are other teams like port adelaide, adeleaide, collingwood and others that would pick him ahead of us.

i dont think benny has earned the right to pick and choose where he wants to play or manipulate it.
he just wants to get back in the AFL - period.

remember that ruckman bloke - chalmers who tried to manipulate the draft by writing to clubs saying dont pick me i only want to play for collingwood.

I would have thought that, where a player is coming back through to AFL after a lengthy spell in controversial circumstances, clubs whom he had told in certain terms that he didn't want to play for them, would be foolhardy to try to press gang him through the PSD.

The whole point with Cousins is that you would want him to feel as settled and comfortable as possible about where he is playing. He is going to be living in a fish bowl for a while and presumably will be at risk of a relapse for the rest of his life.

I don't think a club could afford the bad publicity if, say, they forced a publicly reluctant Cousins to come to them and play and he fell off the wagon and was off to rehab again in a few weeks.

So, if he really, really wants to come to us, and we want him, I would think we'd get him. However, I'm sure other clubs are capable of demanding something from us in return for leaving him alone.

dont discount that the AFL still has a fair bit to say in regards to cousins come back.

at the risk of using the so over hyped cliche' cousins has to "tick plently of boxes" and presumably jump thru alot of hoops for the AFL to re register him.

IMO they are acutely embarassed about the whole cousins fiasco and soap opera and are would propably prefer that cousins disappears into the distance never to return.

in one way or another they might make it extremely difficult for cuz to return and set standards that he cannot make in such a short time frame between now and the draft.

just a gut feeling.

Though it's draft tampering (I think), I still believe players speak to other clubs and do mention they don't wan't to play for them.

I don't see why a club would pick a player just because they "Think", they might have a chance of getting them to change their tune.

Many clubs will speak to BC and he will let each club know his intentions.

Should he say he's happy with either Collingwood or StKilda, then Collingwood will take him.

Should he say he intends to play for StKilda only, then I doubt Collingwood would go any further with it.

Also another card Nixon would have up his sleave is, if he says 'It has been discussed and we believe it's in Ben's best interests that he avoids clubs that have had major off field problems in the previous few years and settle with a club that has been keeping a low profile, as this would help Ben's recovery and his return to the elite level."

Maybe I should be a player manager.

Draft tampering? Is that what you call it? Carlton got away with it with Judd last year. Richmond never even had a go at Judd as they knew that Visy was paying Judd big bucks to get him there and to get him under the salary cap...... :D :D

Don't argue with an idiot - people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

We can trade for a pre season Draft?

so a fiora or L Fisher for a pick above Collingwood?

Just a thought

If we bagged both him and Kerr the offseason would have to go down as one of the best ever would it not? Puts us back in the frame at the very least (might even get Harves to come back and play for free!!!)

You cannot trade PSD picks.

Righto...here is the deal.

Nicks brother plays in the mixed netball side they were watching...

Said netball team also happens to be from Flying Start management....

Who look after Cousins...

Still...at least they know each other....

Straight explanation to it all....but had me O.o this morning...

For instance, agreeing to pass over certain players in the other drafts.
