Trade gossip v reality
This time of the year seems to have the gossip flying re trades. Names pop up, especially if your last game was poor and others from other clubs suddenly become great or clibs become dumb.
My thoughts:
Kosi- unlikely to be traded. You do not get rid of 25 year old 6 foot 6 players who can take a contested pack mark. Look at Ottens started like a house on fire then back injury , then nearly killed himself spearing his groin, Even his 1st year at Geelong was average. Now one of the better bigs going around. Kosi need to get miles and miles in the legs and give himself a core base to build off for 2009.
X Clarke- obvious off field issues and injuries hurt this year. If the right deal offered you would take it as the body is an issue, but i think form of 2008 is not a fair assessment due to circumstances.
Dal - 2 weeks showed the ying and yang of Dal. No tage v Coll and 2nd BOG, hard tag v Haw 2nd W.O.G.. Does not work hard enough v tag . Needs hom etruths. WC will not take him in straight swap for Kerr. May be traded but at his age would need to be quality of similar age coming back.
Delist: L Fisher ( can't see a club trading for him when they can get him in draft or pre season draft for nothing), Harvey (ret) Gehirg(ret) m Gardiner(ret), Ferguson ( glimspes for 4 years but just not there) , C Gardiner
Rix- may be needed for depth, if not gone.
Fiora- may be safe as has something most do not have - ability to run with pace.
Cousins- Chance via pre season draft.
Boyle- Too slow laterally since knee
Jones- dropped from North- see C Gardiner but marginally better
Rusiling - damaged goods.
Need/ look forward to Step up next year:
Allen- must become a lead up forwrad to release roo
Steven - may provide run and skill missing
Gwilt - obvious talent with ave work ethic
Howard -see Steven
McEvoy - Young do not expect too much next year but good improvement with glimpses of whatto come
Like everyone else just my uninformed opinion- any thoughts

Agree with this post... Dal and Kosi need to have the pre seasons of thier lives.. They need to start ASAP....
X is a difficult one... He is really struggling now to make the grade, and as each year passes, he seems to be contributing less and less..
I dont think he'd be worth much on the trade table as it is...
I disagree with keeping Rix and Fiora... Rix is a great clubman and a hard worker, but is no use on the list as he cant play...
Fiora must be delisted, irrespective of his contract... Just a horribly weak player who's time is up... For someone that apparenlty runs the lines and has pace, he does niether... Cannot think of a worse player we've had on our list for 10 years... Must go...

Great post, I was beginning to despair that all saints supporters wanted to trade Kosi!
Who do you replace a 197cm versatile forward/2nd ruckman with?
But I am afraid that it may be over for X, unfortunately he seems to be prone to injuries...and as such never has a chance to build his body up to be strong and resilient.

agreed
rix and fiora have no value to any other team whatsoever.
teams wouldn't even trade their final picks for them.
id keep charlie gardiner another year.
we will prob lose 5 players this year
gehrig and harvey retired and 3 delistings. . .
we havent really got much of value outside our top 22 to trade . . .and other clubs know it.
L fisher
M Gardiner
Ferguson
all at the Crossroads.
joey dal kozi gwilt need a solid 09 to hold their spots.

i think trading X, but making sure it doesnt affect Raph would be great new change of team etc....ohwhenthesaints! wrote:I think people are thinking trade X ?suss wrote:The club won't delist X. They're not that dumb. His best is still very, very good, it's just that he's been hampered with injuries. He'd still only be 24 and has his best footy in front of him.

As I said on a different thread,
we should target Lovett for pace,
Tim Boyle Tall fwd, drafted as key defender,
Corey Jones sml/med fwd, GREAT kick at goal, excellent fwd pressure
Ben Cousins (PSD or late National) ELITE MID

My two cents worth......
Trade OUT players for draft choices ONLY.
Retain all of our picks for youth. Hawthorn have proven that this is the only strategy that works.
It is time to re-build, not temporarily patch up our list that has some obvious gaps.
Patience will be required.
....just my opinion. Some will disagree.

Get some quality depth and have a real crack!
If we trade SMART, we should still have our 1st and 2nd round draft picks plus 1 other!

That's how I read your message of 11:55am...I interpreted the words 'over of X' as meaning a delisting.ohwhenthesaints! wrote:But I am afraid that it may be over for X, unfortunately he seems to be prone to injuries...and as such never has a chance to build his body up to be strong and resilient.
Either way I'd keep him. He has the speed and toughness we lack right now. Injury comes down to tough luck, not lack of endeavour or ability.
No we haven't little one. X has played some ripper games throughout his career over some lengthy periods. We all know he has the capacity to break a game apart. With all due respect MacQualter and Jones will never have that quality. And I think our fitness team has done a great year barring X. If they can get him right he'll be a very valuable player to the team. Show some faith people.homework wrote:Thats what we all have been saying for the last 5 years!

disagree with most. tim boyle is good.
also kosi is no good. the reason why? he is too short to be a ruckman (196cm compared to ottens 202cm) and not agile enough to be kpp.
so despite people saying he is this or that. he is in no mans land. he is a non player. same height as buddy and roughy but without their athletic prowess and clearly too short to be a tap ruckman.
and the other great myth - saints fans who believe fiora is fast. this is because he is often getting his touches very very wide - somewhere out in the hotdog stand - which makes him look like he can run. but he has no leg speed at all and just lopes along. he is not fast.

agree. hopes, fantasies and wishful thinking are great in the bedroom but dont count for much on the park. saints fans have been living on hopes, wishful thinking and fantasies about certain players for too long. time to get our heads from the sand guys.saintly wrote:lets just keep everybody, in the hopes that they will get better
x clarke, kosi, really.
you want these 2 players staying with us becuase of potential!
they have been potential for 5 years, and got us where?
kosi - 2 finals - zero goals against good sides. make your own conclusions. this is the fact.
my only rule is dont trade/cut anyone under 23. everyone deserves a chance.
but vale to x, l fisher, m gardner, fiora, rix, ferguson.

DRAFT DRAFT AND KEEP DRAFTING
last year of the uncompromised draft
.
no way should we have a fire sale and get rid of NDS and Kozi for less than equal value.
of course supporters hold their current players higher in value than opposition players (we see them more often)
one or two reclycled players should be maximum - to replace gehrig and banger - rest should be draftee's
