$1 Million Dollar Bonus
I remember discussing this at the beginning of the year:
The AFL had promised 1 million dollars to the winner of the NAB Cup and the Premiership. As of yesterday I think, they clarified that this was only a one year (2007) deal. Just to clarify, Archie Fraser contacted the AFL and was told that the deal was off the table.
Was anyone aware of this?

Yes
It is true.
And (I believe?) it is salary cap exempt.
Shouldn't need any incentive.
But Archie should tell them "If you win the flag you can split it 22 ways".

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

It was only 2007. Who cares anyway we still got to win 2 games. If we win them I dont care if we have to pay a million.Enrico_Misso wrote:Yes

That is outrageous.n1ck wrote:The deal is OFF the table.
Doesnt matter who is / was a part of it (if we win it). Theres no million anymore.
I am sure it was "on" at the start of the year.
I remember it being mentioned on radio/papers.
This reeks of Dimwit/Clownderson's policy on the run approach.
Did they release a press statement?
Was it on a post-it note?
I'll bet if Sydney had won the pre-season the $1m would still be on the table.

Did we win the flag. Well done Saints. Seriously who cares. We have won one flag 111 years and you are worrying about something that doesnt matter at all. As I said before IF we win I wouldnt care if we paid them a million. Dont make this another AFL picks on Saints topic. We have better things to put our energy into.Enrico_Misso wrote:That is outrageous.n1ck wrote:The deal is OFF the table.

From foxsports:
"AFL spokesman Patrick Keane confirmed the bonus was for one year only to give the pre-season series a kick-along.
Carlton won the NAB Cup final last year, but was never in the mix to win the $1 million bonus, backed by sponsors NAB and Toyota.
St Kilda pocketed $385,000 for winning the NAB Cup this year, up from the $220,000 the Blues won.
But the Saints can not recall any official notification that the $1 million bonus was not up for grabs again in 2008.
When the AFL launched this year's NAB Cup series, it announced a lift in prize money in a press release.
But there was no mention of the $1 million carrot.
The AFL did not state the bonus was alive, but it didn't clarify that it was dead either."
But we're not the afl - there's more important things than money!

don't deserve squat for coming 2nd...its about as beneficial as 16th...you play the game to win the thing...no prizes for a well-player-nearly-there 2nd, 3rd or 4thsaintly wrote:yes, we do, but i don't know how much.saintbrat wrote:do we get anything for coming 4th? or 3rd? and who gets which?

how about if we win the next 2 - we all chip in 100 bucks and pay it ourselves. . . . . seriously, lets win this week and let things take care of themselves.
premiership means more to the saints than the 1mil that was/was not on offer.
win and were in

Seriously mate, of course we'd be rapt/pissed as farts/whatever if we won the flag and couldn't give a toss about anything - yep, that's a given!
BUT....
Don't you think a million bucks into the club (or half to the club, half to the players etc), might help a little? It's not like our club is flushed with cash.
Just a side note, NAB shares are today worth about $18, whilst a year ago they traded as high as $45. I reckon therein lies your answer as to how the million magically vanished during this season.
Sure, a million bucks given away by a huge bank is diddly squat, but it's the big negative PR aspect that would rile shareholders that have lost mega $$$ that they're trying to avoid you'd think....
If we have the support we think we have we will make up the million next year alone and then there are ongoing years. No the money wouldnt hurt but one we are not even in the GF and 2 if we get there we need to turn around a 60 point defeat from 2 weeks ago. I'll take a flag and give some of my own money.saintspremiers wrote:nah of course we wouldn't plugger.plugger66 wrote:Did we win the flag. Well done Saints. Seriously who cares. I'll even say your a decent bloke and Demetriou is worthy of oxygen if we win the flag.....you do have some valid points, sometimes!plugger66 wrote:If we have the support we think we have we will make up the million next year alone and then there are ongoing years.
