Number of SCMembers in 2008? & other Club Totals
Does anyone no what the number of St Kilda SC Members is in 2008?
I had heard that the maximum allowable number was 8500, but also that it did not reach this number.

AFL GRAND FINAL TICKET ALLOCATION
The capacity of the MCG will be approximately 100,000 on Grand Final Day.
Advice from the Melbourne Cricket Club ("MCC") is that the capacity of the MCG will be no fewer than 95,000. Therefore the AFL has used this figure during the Ticket Scheme Proposal.
In answer to Guidelines (a), (b) and (c), the AFL proposes that tickets to the 2008 AFL Grand Final be allocated in approximately the following manner:
1. Competing Club Members 16000 – 26000
2. AFL Clubs (16 x 1000) 16000
3. MCC Reserve 16000 – 26000
4. AFL Members 13000 – 23000
5. AFL/Medallion Club Members 4500 – 5000
6. AFL Entitlements/Contractual Obligations 5000 – 15000
7. Competing Clubs 1500 – 2500
Total 100,000 (approx)

I just found this update on the MCC site.saintsRrising wrote:

The Members Reserve’s capacity of about 22,500 will be available for the 2008 AFL Grand Final and Full members are strongly encouraged to support the match.
With 2 Melbourne based Clubs guaranteed now you would imagine that the full amount would go.
I would also guess that all the other allocations will have stronger demand....and so I would therefore speculate that the 2008 Competing Clubs allocation could be on the low side (ie 16,000 which is then split pr-rata ona Membership Basis by the two competing Clubs.).

So minimum St Kilda allocation if the Saints make it....would be 7200-ish tickets (based on only the 16,000 being allocated) if playing Cats..and about 8000 if the Dogs
From that you deduct whatever the number of SC Members are (insert number???) to get the ticket allocation for ordinary members:

Ok..just found this snippet (in a readers reply) too:
2007 GF
Geelong members were only given 9,000 tickets, so add that to ports 13,000 and thats only 22,000 tickets
So possibly 22,000 tickets for the competing clubs if the same as in 2007....but remember that as there are two Vic Clubs that the other categories may have stronger demand.

which is why the saints have capped social club to 8,500 as that is proabbably the lower end of what any club allocation will bein a grand finalsaintsRrising wrote:Ok..just found this snippet (in a readers reply) too:

I only know the final number for 2008 was less than this by a bit-

Though if the Saints played the Crows then with 22,000 ticketrs the Saints would get 7700 - ish....but it does cover most clubs at that level.saintbrat wrote:

I think you'll find the 22,000 allocation has been fairly stable the last few years....can't remember hearing about any allocation changes for this year.saintsRrising wrote:Ok..just found this snippet (in a readers reply) too:

Who is playing is irrelevant....with interstate teams in the past 7 GF's, often the AFL allocation hasn't been fully used, and some of those tickets have been offloaded to club members (won't happen this year you'd think with 2 Vic teams in).
Remember: Scalping is illegal, but it is fine for the AFL to sell wanky packages for $2,000 that include a lunch, a band pre match and some drinks.
What farking hypocritical crock of shyte!
Those wanky packages, whilst I totally agree with you, are sold by all the Clubs, including St Kilda, as moneyraiserssaintspremiers wrote:I think you'll find the 22,000 allocation has been fairly stable the last few years....can't remember hearing about any allocation changes for this year.saintsRrising wrote:Ok..just found this snippet (in a readers reply) too:

What is a smack in the face to the ordinary member is the amount of promotion of this "Centre Square" corporate package at Punt rd

agree with you. 65 - 75% of tickets to people who don't support either competing club. I can live with the MCC members, the things that really stick in my craw are the bloody medallion club, corporate and AFL contractual obligation allocations.n1ck wrote:That is a disgraceful way to divide it up.
Why non competing clubs get such a large allocation is beyond me.
And the corporate allocation is astonishing.
Big business at its worst.
This is where you get noddys who haven't been to a game all year, swanning along to be served free booze and canapes in their private box whilst people who are the heart and soul of the game and would kill for a ticket can't get one. It smells very very bad indeed.

It should say "Foundation" on your card. Mine doesn't and I have sent an e-mail seeking clarification because I have been a social club member since '97.Spinner wrote:Also, how do you know if you are a foundation member?
Changing address five times probably hasn't made it easy for them.

On Grand Final day look to the Ponsford Stand and ask yourself how many of those people have flown in from interstate of travel packages.
Also I'm an AFL member and it's a few years since I've attended the Grand Final purely because I ended up in Standing room, whilst down on Level 1 you'll see the gang from the Medallion Club, half of whom probably never attend a football game but are there to be seen.
For those who think the AFL members have it all, think again. We are slowly but surely being pushed aside by the AFL to make more room for our corporate friends.
Another reason I hate Vlad the Impaler

Foundation membership is not required because SC memberships are capped at 8500. If demand exceeds that, then they may reinstate it.
As for those Centre Square tickets. Say you make a GF on average once every 8 years (16 clubs / 2), a SC ticket is $120, and the premium GF tickets are $213
That works out to be $1173. Break even point at $2000 a ticket is around 16 years between grand finals.
