Jones vs Davis

Post: # 644142Post Mooksy »

Fair dinkum you've gotta wonder sometimes if people have seen the same game as you. The Age today had Leon Davis in Collingwood's best and Jones not in ours. How wrong can you get it?????

Leon wasn't terrible but considering the last few games he played CJ did very well.

Interesting move to use CJ as a tagger on Neon Leon. Although he did look dangerous at times last night, Davis failed to have the impact he has had in a lot of games this year. Well done to CJ for adapting to this new role, he definitely had the pace to go with him.

Yeah great job by Jones, no one can question his endeavour....don't think Davis was used to such treatment.

Was going to start a new thread on this but maybe I'll just tag along here instead:

Do we think he can back it up this week and play the same role on Hodge?

honestly no, it depends on what lyon thinks hodge will do, for one reason or another he rarely gets tagged however if cj was to go to hodge i would suspect hodge would go into the forward line as he is strong overhead and a powerful kick

This will be the coaching dilemma. Hodge will want to play loose man in defence. If you match him up with a tagger that will reduce the amount of space for the forwards to move in. Last time we played, Nick kicked six. Can't remember what they did with Hodge that night. He had the highest number of kicks for them but his effectiveness was down a bit from memory.

wouldn't say no to that, grammy could hurt hodge going the other way big time

Yes Great Shotdown Job CJ.

Forced Leon to get his kicks away from goal.

Like to see him shut down Rioli. Then we're half way there.

Good to see Maxi run forward a few time too. Our back 6 are finally starting to gell nicely.

IF It is to be it is up to me.

Coach / player masterstroke.

Should be given the job on Hodge. Hodge is their playmaker from defence. Not sure Gram would be the right choice given his lack of defensive pressure. Stop Hodge... stop Buddy.

Hodge has played loose man in defence and must be made accountable.

The lid is off after Round 2! Enjoy the journey, coz you just don't know where we'll end up. Live for today and seize the moment.

What about Gwilt on Hodge. Showed on saturday can take a grab and is a good kick. Has played shut down roles before and if we use him as a leading option he might put Hodge in two minds.

Importantly Roo and Kosi must seperate when leading

That would be a good match-up I think.

Davis was one of Collingwood's best.
Jones wasn't one of St Kilda's best.

That tells you a lot about why the scoreline ended up the way it did. St Kilda's best had a lot more impact than Davis.

Fair enough quoting Davis as best in Collingwood and Jones as not in our best - Davis was best in the Rabble and Jone was great - but so was our whole team - truth is Davis would not have got a look in on St Kildas best - and Jones would hae creamed Collingwoods best. So if our mid performing players are better than Collingwoods best - I am happy with that - and aside from some goals in junk time they never looked at challenging us!
