Best arrangement for Casey Scorpions - Saints on Saturday followed by Scorpions the next day. The unused emergency for St Kilda then gets a game on the Sunday.
The draw for the Scorpions is working very well.
This week we play Werribee, and if we win we then play North Ballarat. Both teams happen to share an alignment with North Melbourne who are now out of the finals.
There are two considerations:
* the sharing of NM's list means they only have access to 1/2 the list each
* because NM is out of the finals, their aligned clubs can only use MN listed players who have qualified to play VFL finals (by having played 7 or more VFL games in 2008 or be returning from a long term injury and have not played an AFL game since 1 July).
Because St KFC remains alive in the AFL finals the Scorps have access to any listed St Kilda players who are not chosen by St Kilda for the finals match. However, there is a maximum of 12 St Kilda players who can be chosen in the Scorpions team.
During the finals the Casey Scorpions have access to 17 players (some of whom will obviously be playing against Collingwood this week so won't play for the Scorps against werribee):
• Jarryd Allen
• David Armitage
• Shane Birss
• Raphael Clarke
• Glenn Chivers
• Matthew Ferguson
• Aaron Fiora
• Leigh Fisher
• Charlie Gardiner
• Jarryn Geary
• James Gwilt
• Brad Howard
• Luke Miles
• Ben McEvoy
• Andrew McQualter
• Michael Rix
• Jack Steven.
This week Werribee have access to only 12 North Melbourne players:
• Leigh Brown
• Ben Davies
• Todd Goldstein
• Levi Greenwood
• Lachlan Hansen
• Alan Obst
• Matt Riggio
• Ben Ross
• Jess Sinclair
• Scott Thompson
• Ben Warren
• James Wilsen.
The following week North Ballarat have access to only 10 AFL players:
• Aaron Edwards
• Cruize Garlett
• Blake Grima
• Ed Lower
• Andrew Swallow
• Eddie Sansbury
• Josh Smith
• Robbie Tarrant
• Gavin Urquhart
• Michael Wundke.

Excuse my ignorance - but does this mean the Luke Ball can play with the Scorps to get some match fitness before coming back to the seniors?casey scorp wrote:Because St KFC remains alive in the AFL finals the Scorps have access to any listed St Kilda players who are not chosen by St Kilda for the finals match. Are Ball,Baker and Michael Gardiner eligible to play?
If St Kilda loose and we play Nth. Ballarat what players are eligible to play against them?
Where will this game be played?
How many AFL players can we play when we play Port Melb in the finals?
Thanks

I thought there was still the clause where they need to have 'played' some games for the scorps during the season to be eligible.
http://www-static.sportingpulse.com/pic ... leFILE.pdf
AFL players’ finals eligibility
Rules ensure level playing field finals eligibility
With less than one month before the start of the VFL fi nals series it is timely to clarify the rules regarding player eligibility.
Given at least six, possibly seven, aligned VFL clubs will participate in the fi nals it is appropriate supporters understand the complexities that govern selection during the finals.
While there are many relevant rules, the underlining principal governing all aligned VFL clubs’ team make-up is the 12-10 rule.
Put simplify, this means no aligned club can play more than 12 AFL-listed players (including rookies) and less than 10 VFL-listed players.
This rule also applies throughout the season when an aligned club plays a stand alone VFL club.
Aligned clubs can choose to play as many VFL-listed players as they wish, but, again, must play at least 10.
Now the eligibility of AFL-listed players to play in the VFL fi nals
differs depending on whether their side is playing in the AFL fi nals or whether it is not.
When his side is playing in the AFL fi nals, an AFL player can be selected for VFL fi nals as long as he has played at least one VFL match, or has missed eight consecutive AFL matches during that season. For example, Western Bulldog Scott West, out injured for the past three months, would qualify to play with his side’s VFL affi liate, Williamstown.
This selection criteria operates until the player’s AFL side is eliminated from the fi nals. At that point, an AFL player’s availability is determined by the number of VFL games he has played that season.
If an AFL-listed player has played seven or more VFL games, he is eligible to play with his club’s VFL affi liate in the fi nals.
This criteria also applies to any players whose AFL club did not
qualify for the fi nals. Any other player, cannot play fi nals football without playing one match during the home and away season.
Those AFL-listed players who are eligible for selection must meet the criteria published in the round 20 VFL Record. The rules governing fi nals eligibility have operated successfully now for several seasons and will, again, provide a platform for an equitable fi nal series.

This comes from the VFL Round 20 Footy Record:
While an aligned side’s AFL affiliate is still in the AFL final series, VFL clubs can select any available AFL player, but if its AFL affiliate is not in, or is bundled out of, the finals, then an AFL player is only available for selection if he has played at least seven VFL games during the season.
The one exception is where an AFL player is returning from a long-term injury and has not played an AFL game since July 1. Under this rule, North Melbourne forward Aaron Edwards, a Liston Trophy winner and Jim ‘Frosty’ Miller medallist, is eligible to play with North Ballarat even though he hasn’t played seven VFL games this season.
I acknowledge what saintbrat quoted from another source:
When his side is playing in the AFL fi nals, an AFL player can be selected for VFL fi nals as long as he has played at least one VFL match, or has missed eight consecutive AFL matches during that season.
but point out that the same article further down said:
Those AFL-listed players who are eligible for selection must meet the criteria published in the round 20 VFL Record.
If it's not inconsistent, then at the least its's confusing.
At this stage I'll say let's go with the words in the Round 20 Footy Record, which don't say that the AFL player must have played at least one VFL match.

The guts of it is that Lovell will coach Sandy next year, with Lyon's approval.
Greg Hutchinson will be involved in coaching next year for St Kilda - the article didn't say in what capacity, but given John Barker must surely be dead man walking, there should be an assistant coaching spot for him.....at least I hope so!

St Elizabeth’s recently travelled to Belvedere Park’s Seaford home round to do battle in the competition’s second semi-fi nal.
With St Kilda heroes Matt Maguire and Fraser Gehrig among the crowd enjoying the match, St Elizabeth’s made most of the running to record an
impressive 43-point win.
