Bring back Birss

Post: # 641125Post fugazi »

Better than Mini, good mark, finds space and makes things happen.

Armitage or Steven in for Gwilt too

This is not wise after the event.

A number of us were stunned by Birss' omission.

He's clearly the best of the fringe players.

We don't have the luxury at the bottom end of finessing with tactical selections. Just play him every time.

Agreed. Swan is the one who can take you apart.

Birss should come on... Was good against the Dons and was a shock omission last week...

Wouldnt drop Gwilt tho... Had 3 good games before the Cats, and he wasnt alone in having a poor one there...

I'd drop Eddy and Charlie for Birss and Armo... If Blake isnt right, M.Gardiner maybe??.... Tough week for selections...

then after that he can tag out sewell (sewl??) from the hawks.
or even hodge off the back flank.
and do his part in getting us to the dance

Surely the selectors would bring in Birss. He would have to be extremly unlucky not to get a call up this time. Whats more, with him being a Saints fan growing up, it would nice to think that above everything, He'll be playing for the jumper & everything it means.

Thanks for raising this Fugazi,
ever since Sinday I have been wanting start a Birss thread.
Initially I was happy that X was named, but it seemed that it was at the expense of Birss.
In the end this seems to have been a mistake, as I believed posters reports that X was carving up the VFL. But he looked rusty and not up to speed & I dont subscribe to the better for the run arguments.

So looking back at the year, what has Birss done? Is he a bad trainer? Bad clubman? Parks in Westaways carpark? Why is it that he constantly gets dropped after what I consider more than serviceable games???

I dunno mate...Heath Shaw barely got a kick on him last time he played against the Pies, so I'm sure forms got a lot to do with it. I know his no Greg Williams, but I'm not sure we're talking about the same Birss here???

I don't give a stuff about gilbert, he head was on the chopping block months ago. (name reflects a joke to a friend of mine)

Well of course he couldn't get on the best without playing, but lets see when was the last time he got in the best 5. Every week its armo, stevens and mac with Allen up there as well. Not birss.

Birss has the strength of a 5 year old and the sprint on a 80 year old.

Go back to the first magpie game. Shaw bumped him off it 5 times.
Essendon Game. bumped off by their first gamer!!!
Same aginst adelaide, port adelaide, and brisbane, and melbourne and that bulldogs game was a joke.

He is weak and a massive liability.

'evertonfc' "who would i bring in" armo, stevens.

Thought he runs more like Donald Duck to be honest.

Anyway...bumps or not...pantsed Shaw in that earlier game, and has a lot of upside. Generally good (confident) disposal, can kick a goal, and I agree, better than Armo

I definately agree this guy is my favourite of the lower end he has a big heart plenty of guts and one of very few in the whole side that I don't have to sh-t my pants when shooting for goal.

His lack of pace is well suited to a number of Pies players, especially Swan. Swan is a deceptive player however, he has a very good second effort when he looks buggered.

That's the match I was looking at...Swan chops us up time and again. Birss has been a reasonable stopper against the Pies, that's where his value is. If he can do that and push forward for a goal (as he's done in the past), why not??? Can't see many other possible inclusions suiting this game as well.
