Steven and Armo played, leaving us with Birss as the only emergency for tomorrow.

Even a win over Carlton's VFL affiliate feels good :D

We'll just have to hope that no big bloke falls over in the bath tonight.

I smell a late change with Birss held back.

The really positive aspect is that Casey's season continues, and players in contention for AFL action, in the emergencies Steven and Armitage plus M. Gardiner (because 2 ruckmen would be the optimum) and Allen (to keep pressure on C. Gardiner) continue to get match time.

Plus, given a St Kilda win tomorrow, Ball can play in the VFL next week to get some match time.

The importance of Casey's season continuing can not be under stated.

It also gives valuable experience to Steven, Howard, Allen, McEvoy and Armitage, who we all hope step up to AFL requirements in 2009.

Birss will not play tomorrow.

We always have at least one (usually two) emergencies available on match day.

The fact that Birss is the only one this week indicates everyone is fit and ready to go.

1st Elimination Final - Casey Scorpions v Bullants
By Travis Parnaby

The Casey Scorpions have erased the memory of last year's first round finals exit to defeat the Northern Bullants by just five-points at Casey Fields.

Bullants coach David Teague had the chance to take the lead from 50m at the 28 minute mark of the last term. But his torpedo fell short and Casey managed to lock-down for the win.

Casey coach Greg Hutchison was rapt with his side's effort.

"I thought we stuck at the task," he told 97.7FM 3SER Casey Radio.

"We train and prepare for another week now."

Hutchison praised the Scorpions tall timber of 100th gamer Michael Rix, Ben McEvoy and Michael Gardiner and said they had complemented each other nicley. Gardiner impressed with 16 possessions from 70 minutes game time.
Casey prime mover David Armitage (31 disposals and 10 tackles) was the catalyst all day and his inside work was a signpost that the Scorpions would not be cast aside easily.

Scorpion Jarryd Allen was the difference up forward with three goals and 12 marks while Casey defender Evan Panozza's tight checking of Teague in the last term was vital. This allowed Huitchison to deploy Matthew Ferguson to the forward line where he bobbed up for two crcucial goals.

Alex Silvagni, in just his second game back from injury, held Cain Ackland while James Wall (25 possessions) and James Taylor (20 touches) provided plenty of drive and dash from defence.

For the vanquished, Teague slammed through three goals while Joe Anderson stood tall in defence.

Demonstrating the closeness of the match, neither side's lead was bigger than 16 points at any stage.

The Bullants were first to the footy in the first quarter but would rue several missed goal scoring chances, kicking 4.4 to 4.1.

The Scorpions took the running in the second through ball winners Armitage, Jack Steven (26 possessions) and Jarryn Geary (29 disposals). Amazingly, the Scorpions piled on four goals in four minutes to shock the Bullants. Casey's ability to apply immense forward pressure saw it take a nine-point advantge into half-time.

The Bullants dictated terms in the third with coach Teague throwing numbers behind the ball to frustrate the Scoprions.

It resulted in the Scorpions travelling wide with the football and any scoring shots were taken from difficult angles. At the other end, the Bullants kicked 3.4 to establish an 11-point lead at the final change.

The game was up for grabs in the last with Casey's first goal cutting the deficit to just five points.

The Scorpions found a second purple patch to boot three successive majors, capped by a tremedous long-range effort from Brad Howard and did enough to hold on in the face of the bold Bullants.

Ball may not be able to play next week with Casey.
I think there is a qualifying number of games that need to be played in the VFL to be able to play finals.

I cant believe that the Bullants ran Casey so close,in fact i can't believe they made the finals based on the Casey v Bullants game earlier in the season at Casey when Ferg kicked 7 goals and the Bullants looked shite....

I believe they can come under a special consideration rule if they are returning from an injury. Not sure how long that injury is required to be though.

If Ball is fit to play VFL, he's fit to play AFL. (Can rotate him off the bench, i'm sure we'll be giving Harves more game time in the finals).

Good on him. Loving the tackles.

These Casey blokes would be aching to play with Harvey in a finals campaign...

"In the other qualifying final, the Casey Scorpions came from behind at three-quarter time to tip the Northern Bullants out of the finals race by five points at Casey Fields. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

There was good news for St Kilda, with injury prone ruckman Michael Gardiner, David Armitage, Jarryn Geary and Jarryd Allen (three goals) all playing a crucial role in Casey-Scorpions victory.

Bullants playing-coach David Teague booted three goals to be a contributor, along with Carlton squad players Joe Anderson, Dennis Armfield, Luke Blackwell, Jason Saddington and Adam Hartlett.

Was at the game and by far the most impressive player for us was M Gards
showed great leadership kept us in the game and his ruck work was awesome.
he was the key in the last 10mins of the game.
Great sign.
I hope he doesn't decide his had enough coz the way he looked today he can go on for ages. he was great.

we need him to stay on next year. should kingy or kosi be injured or badly out of form he's a ready made, experienced back-up.

i feel for him a bit because there's an argument that he's equally as talented as king and it's really just team balance (with kosi playing second ruck) that has kept him out.

we'd also be more likely to snare benny cousins if he stayed on, but that is not the main reason i'd like to see him still at the club next season.
