I am afraid that cover...and sentiments like it annoy the crap out of me.
Thing is that it is not accurate.......as not everyone fell over.
The Crows actually WON their game.
Thing is that Olympic like we simply did it BETTER than the Crows...we out performed them to surge past them.
We did not do a Bradbury.
But rather we did a Matthew Mitcham who required a RECORD score with his last dive to grab goal.
We required a record score against the Dons to grab fourth and we did.
We were faced with a MAMMOTH task.
So do not ridicule or undermine the Saints achievement by putting it just down to luck...but rather recognise it for the amazing acievement it is....and recognise we had to GRAB fourth....and not simply be the last team (man) standing.
We are fourth because we earnt it.

On top of that, over the 22 rounds, our results were better than the other sides...
Bradbury my arse.

It is funny though.
The Fact is, both North Melbourne and the Crows had their chances and they fell short on their performances!
St Kilda on the other hand, knew what needed to be done and showed more determination in getting there! End of story. It's just sour grapes from the ones we passed on the ladder!

Also the Bradbury analogy often is an insult to Bradbury himself.
He worked against great adversity to reach that final, and he was a medal chance. Even getting to that stage was a great achievement for Bradbury himself, and also for Australian winter sports.
So the analogy of all of your opponents falling over, and skating past them to win is a bit of a fallacy, when you take into consideration what Bradbury had to do to get to that final in the first place.

I just choose to regard one of our better performances as just that....rather than as a slapstick farce.
Rather than sniggering at the Saints for making fourth I am applauding them.
The Crow fans are trying to paint that we bought Essendon off.
Others are painting it as a Bradbury farce..
I just choose to recognise and relish in it being a good achievement by the Saints.

I'd rather be associated with Bradbury than MitchamsaintsRrising wrote: But rather we did a Matthew Mitcham who required a RECORD score with his last dive to grab goal.
However you point is valid.
there were five teams with possibilities of making the top four.
Collingwood didn't want it
North didn't want it
Sydney wanted it but had to rely on others to not win.
Adelaide wanted it but not enough to beat us the week before and gain a % break on us.
Quite simply we wanted it the most. Sure we were against the Bendigo Bombers, but we still had to win by almost a 100 points, and we did it going away, almost a three goal buffer.
We wanted the second chance. We wanted to meet Geelong. The Saints saw the opportunity and took it. It was not given to them.
We face an awesome challenge. Geelong have only one injury, and have lost two games in 42 matches.
They are flying.
They should beat us convincingly.
But I am sure we will turn up and give it a go.
We earnt the right to have a shot. It may be ugly on Sunday, it may be beautiful on Sunday, but the Saints showed they aren't scared to face the rampaging Cats.
Lance or James??

We knew what we were up against when we attempted to make fourth on Sunday night... thing is -if we knew what we would face and how hard it was going to be and we didn't want to do that - we wouldn't even have tried. This is proof that the players have belief that they can match it with the cats. This in turn makes me feel extremely impressed in our playing group.
Like many have said, we will probably get beaten fairly easily on Sunday, but they are going to have a crack and stranger things have certainly happened before.

Verb formBakesFan wrote:sorry to be pedantic.... but could we please use 'earned' rather than 'earnt'(it's not even a word).
earnt
(UK) An increasingly acceptable alternative form of the simple past and past participle earned. Still considered to be incorrect by many.
So that would be me in the first group, and that would be you in the second group.

Those offended by the Bradbury comparison ought to lighten up IMO. Bradbury is an Olympic Gold Medallist.
St Kilda is just a finallist.
Every metaphor is a little flawed - point is we're pretty lucky to be where we are regardless of having done our part, and that's true.
This year's Saints still have a way to go before they're on Bradbury's level though.
