Sing A Song of Sir Harves
In 2003 after Nathan Burkes last game while he was doing his lap of honour they played the songs Amazing by Alex Lloyd and Superman by Five For Fighting along with a tribute to him on the scoreboards at the Dome.
I ask you all, what would be a fitting song for the greatest Saint of them all after his last game.

A true king doesn't glass his girlfriend.
A true king doesn't smear his blood on an opponent when he cannot break a tag.
A true king does not label umpires disgraceful.
A true king is Robert Harvey.

" I DID IT MY WAY "
read the lyrics its bangers all over
read the lyrics its bangers all over
And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, Ill say it clear,
Ill state my case, of which Im certain.
Ive lived a life thats full.
Ive traveled each and evry highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
Regrets, Ive had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.
I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
Yes, there were times, Im sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.
Ive loved, Ive laughed and cried.
Ive had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.
To think I did all that;
And may I say - not in a shy way,
No, oh no not me,
I did it my way.
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
And did it my way!

Also the bit where it goes 'when you try your best but you don't suceed, could it get worse?'Saints Premiers 2008 wrote:nothing as terrible as thatSainterX wrote:In 2003 after Nathan Burkes last game while he was doing his lap of honour they played the songs Amazing by Alex Lloyd and Superman by Five For Fighting along with a tribute to him on the scoreboards at the Dome.

tear streeeeam...down your face...when you loose something you cannot replace...
Also the My Hero and that superman songs are good choices, worked great in OLB?'s Video...
My suggestion would be 'All Kinds of Time' by Fountains of Wayne...
some of the lyrics that lead me to this choice are...
He takes a step back
He's under attack
But he knows that no one can touch him now
He seems so at ease
A strange inner peace
Is all that he's feeling somehow
He looks to the left
He looks to the right
And there in a golden ray of light
Is his open man
Just as he planned
The whole world is his tonight

I thought Loewes was awesome "Time to say goodbye" powerful tune also and that the type you need for Harvey...
what about "You Raise me Up"...gotta nice Irish jig type intro and lets be honest for many saints fans for many years with little to cheer about it was Robert Harvey that gave you something to hope for.....
Chorus goes like
"You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up so I can walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be..
OLB Can you weave some magic with this?

Id actually never heard it till I caught on TV ages ago....its a huge impact song and as much as its footy......losing Harvs isnt a happy occasion so im certainly not hoping for 'hot potatoe'.
More importantly the song to me says thanks to him for the times he carried the side and gave you a reason to enjoy the game. I think its apt - hes lifted many saints fans fans
“Yeah….nah””
Oh God no...please not "Time to say goodbye"...its his farewell not his funeral..do you want the game to start at 3pm while everyone in the ground composes themselves??? lol
I thought "Superman' for Burkie was awesome..Id never heard the track til that day but its a favorite now. Ditto "Amazing"
"Simply the best" works perfectly lyrically but im not a big fan of the song..a bit twee
Cant see them blasting the Foo's "My hero" out of the speakers at 10,000db either lol..might rattle the jewllery of Joffaboy, Fireman and their Level 2 chums

You need a powerful song for a powerful moment and man.Saint Bev wrote:Raise Me Up is a massive tear jerker. Wind Beneath My Wings is another great one for hero's.
Raise Me Up with some shots of his early years through to now (and that awesome clip of him sidestepping 5 Carlton players and Parkin bemoaning "you couldnt tackle him in a phone box" would do nicely....)
Simply the best? hmmm...been done before nup.
Superman by Five for Fighting is also a rather melancholy tune - these are the go for poignant moments and theres no bigger than the departure of an icon.

Sing a song of Sir harves
G'day Folks!!! Perhaps this may not be the SONG but I love these lines:
"Did you ever know that you're my hero; and everything I wish I could be.
I can fly higher than an Eagle, but you are the wind beneath my wings"
I LOVE "impossible dream" and this should be our "second" club song in my humble opinion!! Fits in SO well with the great man!!
What a fun thread!!!!!

Sing a song of Sir harves
OR.................................................................................................
"forever young" (?)
"Don't dream its over" (?)
I also love "Days" by the Kinks After an "irish" (or ten ) I'll listen to the words and a wee tear MAY be seen to emerge from my eye!
"Thank you for the days, those endless days those sacred days you gave me.
I'm thinking of the days, I wont forget a single day believe me.
I bless the light, I bless the light that lights on you believe me.
And though you're gone, you're with me every single day believe me.
Days I'll remember all my life, days when you can't see wrong from right.
You took my life, but then I knew that very soon you'd leave me.
But it's alright now I'm not frightened of this world believe me"
('sniff )
