Changes at years end!
With every team needing at least 2 changes (retirements, delists) (however, i thought it was 3) how many do you think we will have and how many do we need?
in the past we have delisted players only to pick them up again in the next draft- Callaghan, Ferguson McQualter
With harvey and possibly Gehrig retiring, who else will move on and who needs to go?

You would reckon some of these players had no interest in their football future with the crap performances they have put up since and including the WCE game. The more experienced players have NOT lead the way and have NOT led the younger players by example. I wouldn't be looking at just some younger players at years end -look at them all one by one.

I think it's a bit soon yet, still time for a heroic effort to save a career or two... but.
At this stage I'd be saying:
Retirements: Harvey and Gehrig.
Delistments: Rix, Ferguson, Charlie Gardiner.
Elevate: Eddy, McQualter.
Fiora's paper's would be marked I'd think, but he's got another year on his contract, so he'll likely survive (though I suppose that could depend on how much cash we've got in the bank since this is supposed to be a pretty good draft year). I imagine if anyone's even vaguely interested come trade week, we'd throw in beers and a stripper (Comon West Coast, that's gotta be tempting...).
I imagine we'll be looking to clear out the rookie list (bar sholarship where we get one extra) where there's question marks to take advantage of draft depth as well. Retain Attard, retain Miles, but that'd be it.
Interesting one above... Plugger, is your delisting of Howard on the same level as your work regarding selections, or off the top of your head?

My understanding is that X is on a 1 yeasr contract expiring this year and Raph is on a 2 year contract expiring at teh end of next year?
That would mean we would either have to re-sign X or he could 'walk away' and enter the draft?
Raph , as he is still under contract, can be traded by the Club if it wished to.
My belief is that both will be at StKilda next year.
I think that Fergs, L.Fisher and Howard are probably gone (whether they are contracted or not).
Don't forget that L.Fisher was offered to Shytney as part of the Schneider/Dempster/Pick 26 scanario but failed a 'physical' there.
Fergs has not managed to find himself back in the seniors after doing his hammy? He also hasn't set the world on fire at Scorps since either, so
I'm afraid his constant injuries may see him gone.
Howard seems to be behind Armo, Eddy, McQ, Fiora and Birss so I cannot see him being kept if we have to make delisting decisions.
Fiora is still under contract so will probably be kept (unless a reasonable Trade pops up)
Rix I think will stay on the list for another season as 'insurance' for our Ruck division.
Charlie Gardiner may also be kept on for 'insurance'

Well given teh year he had last year I would have thought it was not unreasonable to offer him 2 years?Animal Enclosure wrote:Why the hell did they sign Fiora to a 2 year deal ????
One decent year & we have to lock him away for two seasons despite the fact that he is one of the most inconsistent players to ever play the game.
That is terrible mismanagement, on a par with 5 year deals!

I'm not sure if their is room for Attard, which is a shame.
McQualter is better than him at tagging and he finds it a bit more/uses it a bit better than Attard.
Even Dempster is playing that role now.
Still got Baker to come back in so i'm not sure if Attard will get close to our best 22 again
Footy is a tough business, and I say delist.

I think the club is facing some hard choices at the end of the season
If lyon is still with us, I am sure he will want to elevate Eddy,McQ and Attard. And I'm not sure that he will want to delist any of the ruckmen, or Raph or Fiora
That means 6 to go: harves, G train, Ferguson and then 3 of Fish, Gwilt, Howard, Allen and Charlie

On Rix: a back up ruckmen this year in acse of injuries. With Ben being a year older next year, he will be ready to assume that role at the least and possibly even push for regular senior games.
Therefore you would imagine that Rix will go.
With Miles: definitely worth hanging on to from the glimpses we have seen. However if this can be done as a second year rookie, then I would imagine that this will be how he will be retained. Or is hea "matrure" rookie that can only be kept as a rookie fora year?

Riewoldt - agree
Hayes- agree
Goddard- agree
S.Fisher- agree
Koschitzke - hasnt lived up to potential love the guy but if the trade was there and we got something good i would take it
Ball- agree
Dal Santo- would demand a huge trade bait for a first round and a player i would do i
Maguire- injury has destroyed him wouldnt get much for trade as he hasnt been close to his 2004 form
Gram- has value but i think most clubs would "build thier own"
Hudghton- will retire in the next 2 years no point trying to trade him
Future.
Armitage - agree
Gilbert- could be worth looking at trading for a natural footballer
Jones- agree but if west coast want a straight swap for mikinly i would take it
Eddy (elevate) - strongly agree
Geary- agree
McEvoy- agree
Allen- agree
Steven- havent seen enough to pass judgment
Howard- again havent seen much of him
Miles (elevate)- agree long term prospect
Attard (elevate)- agree wouldnt be in a best 22 but would make the best 30
Connors- unknown
Servicable.
Milne - does his job well provided hes not asked to perform great feats
King- still better then Rix
Blake- if we could get 22 blokes to play as hard as he does
Baker - cant see him being a part of the best 22 he cant tagg anymore without being reported
X.Clarke - would love it if he could stay fit
Schneider- agree
Dempster- agree
Montagna- agree
McQualter (elevate)- agree
Birss- the fact he cant get into the top 22 worries me
Crossroads / Trade Bait.
M.Gardiner- wouldnt get traded maybe retire
R.Clarke - dout would get any bites trade wise prob hold on to him til contract runs out
Ferguson - GONE
Fiora- last year next year
Rix- depends alot on how McEvoy is coming along and if Gardi stays
L.Fisher- GONE
C.Gardiner- GONE
Gwilt- kept
Retain Rookies.
Haretuku- agree
Chivers- agree
Retire.
Harvey- disagree should play for another 5 years

actually quite a good point.....and to be positive about it, let's all be grateful he wasn't offered a 3 year deal!!!Mr Magic wrote:Well given teh year he had last year I would have thought it was not unreasonable to offer him 2 years?Animal Enclosure wrote:Why the hell did they sign Fiora to a 2 year deal ????

So what happened to Fizz?
He went from being pretty damn handy last year to the guy everyone hates? Did he take his place for granted? Get lazy? Loss of interest?
Fizz at his best is pretty good, I'm willing to give him another year. But I'd like him to prove himself through the 2s, not get an easy ride. Look at Birss busting his nut...if Fizz tried that hard he'd be awesome.
