Brutally honest team assessment
If it wasn't for Rob Harvey's dignity....we may as well tank this year and officially rebuild. We have a very long tail of average to below average players...reminds me of when we were living in hope that Daniel Wulf or Ben Walton and co would some how come good...we have to be realistic and make tough choices in next 2 years.
By 2010 the only players I can confidently see in our starting line up are the following (picked in their best positions):
B: ?????..........Gilbert.........?????
HB: ????..........S.Fisher..........?????
C: Monty..........Hayes.........Gram
HF: Goddard......Roo..........Schneider ( i think he'll be good)
FF: ??????.........?????...........??????
R: ??????, Ball, Dal Santo
Will probably step up:
Armitage
Steven
Ben McEvoy
Retired with honour:
Sir R.Harvey
Gehrig
Max
Out:
Fiora
Ferguson
M.Gardiner
Dempster
Maguire -inj
Baker-inj
Trade:
Kosi
X.Clarke - proven non-durable
R.clarke
If we can get something for them, it may as well be this year.
Keep on list for 2009 and assess
(confidence quotient in brackets that they will make it):
Eddy ..............6/10
Geary.............5/10
McQualter........4/10
Gwilt...............5/10 ( as midfielder no back)
C.Gardiner......3/10
Allen..............5/10
Jones.............6/10
Birss...............6/10
King................5/10
L.Fisher...........4/10
Blake..............6/10
Milne...............6/10
Wall................4/10
We need early picks and get durable strong kids into the team.

Excellent post Fugazi, I agree with R35 that Dempster will be a long term player but I'd add Dal to the possible trait bait list.
Port have always made noises about landing a big name. Would you take someone like Salopek & their early pick (currently pick 3) for Dal and our 1st pick?
I'd take it in a heartbeat.
I'd keep Kosi though... you can replace mids, it's much harder to replace talls who can play (despite his lack of output thus far).

And Milne, he is a one of a kind player who many on here don't appreciate. It's not his fault that he is on the receiving end of poor delivery / 1 on 3 contests, etc.

I'd keep Dal...he is the most talented member of the team and having an ordinary year...I still question whether he has issues with RL because he looks depressed.
Kosi...whether thru injury or confidence just cannot produce at this club. His stocks are still good enough to get a good trade...and yes, he may well go on to play well somewhere else, but I get the feeling it aint at Sainterland.
Sydney would be interested I'm sure....in the well trodden path of FF from us to them...especially with the Hall issues...straight swap for first rounder?

Agree but i don't understand how no's 1, 11 and 25 escape - they are ridiculously over rated IMHO
X and raph wont attract the same currency as either of the above - i say look for whats on offer now. they have currency right this minute - in a year or two they wont be worth squat!

Thanks for that Wallsy - I must be thinking of someone else who plays loose and is constantly being found out by turning the ball over to the opposition.ralphysaints35 wrote:been to every home game. The Linton Street Flash wrote:25 - a great player without an opponent. do u actually go to games?
He has struggled all year - FACT!
and he has no struggled.

We need another hard bodied forward to support Roo, another hard bodied mid-fielder (to be our one and only hard bodies midfielder) and at least 2 or 3 good defenders - the only way we're gonna get em is by trading.
Q Lynch for Kosi
D Kerr for Dal or Joey
Any ideas on how to get defenders?

Good post fugazi,
I agree Kosi must be traded while he still has some value.
You say Dal is the most talented member of the team.
That may be the case, but he is also the laziest (spends too much time in front of the mirror) and unless he decides he wants to play in the next 3 weeks, should go. No excuses for being tagged, because he's not being tagged. They all know he's a receiver and shut down his supply.
I think the Clarkes will stay and Dempster will definitely stay.

Who does everyone think will step up from the long list of young fringe players we have?
I reckon Steven, Eddy, Armo and McEvoy...the rest will go by the wayside.

trading Dal is the most stupid thing written on this site. He is having an avaerage yr, but he is not alone. He has a massive up side (as we saw in the hawks game).
There are issues atm, and they can be resolved, to trade him sends us backwards in the most important area where wer are currently struggling now...ie midfield.

Lets face it, Dal, Milne ,Montagna, Fiora, and a couple of others are all outside receivers with no real concept of manning up or gut running...sure great personal talent, but time and time again they fail when the going gets tough..Ok against ordinary teams, bit when the hard stuff is on -they go missing.
We badly need a bit more gut-running grunt in our midfield

The amount of times i screamed when they kicked to Milne as a marking forward nearly made my voice go! Damn he is a crumber and needs to have Roo or Kosi beside him to crumb off not as a lone marking option which he was for a good portion of the evening!!!!!!!battye wrote:Indeed.Animal Enclosure wrote:I'd keep Kosi though... you can replace mids, it's much harder to replace talls who can play (despite his lack of output thus far).

And Dal's defensive effort has been poor for 18 months.
And we sit and watch these things every week and wonder when someone is going to do something about it.
