So if GT had passion and loved the saints would he have taken us to court? he was his own man and couldnt let anything go, that came down to player contracts!! he wouldnt let anyone else do it, have you noticed we havent lost anyone since GT has left? he wasnt that good of a mentor really!@
As for the court bs, mate, if your owed some money, whether its your mate or not, your owed money. If you borrowed $100 off a mate, your mate you expect you to pay him back. We owed our coach money, and the courts proved it. Butters was not a very nice person at all, very very shifty.

No, the list is better now than it was then.Teflon wrote:Turn it up mate - Grant got handed a side that had mature bodies at one end and top 20 picks and below galore......he dealt with injuries but in 04 he got your dream run. we can and still make the finals, now the baggers can get f***ed IMO
Come on mate. The stop/start kicking down the line is utter crap, along with the flooding. This is not the players, this is a coaching issue.
These are the same players who were "genuine" contenders in 04-06, Ross took a prime team, and has turned us into the s***. He honestly has a better list than GT had, an easier run and alot less injuries.
Wont be buying a membership next year, I simply do not like the way we play nor our coach.
Grant had passion, spirit, the team believed in him, the team believed in themselves, the supporters believed in them.
These days, the coach has dictated a horrible gamestyle, where the supporters are sick of it. The players dont believe in it, neither do the majority of the supporters. Its not even exciting.
We have not even beating a decent side by any decent margin either. Under Grant, we contineuly smashed sides and won by decent amounts, we barely win under Ross, and barely score over 100 points a game.
Its time to go Ross...
IKm not making excuses cause Lyon takes his share of blame tonight.....but spare me the "list is better now" cause no one (except Dodg) is buying it.
The players have had their fair share of games under the belt.
You got your ruckman you so desired.
You got your desired coach.
Yet, Ross has not delivered.
I dont mind loosing, but the way we are playing/loosing is horrible, enough is enough.
We've lost Peckett, Voss, Hamil, A.Jones, Swartz, Knobel
We got, Schnider, Birrs, Dempster, Geary, Eddy, C.Gardiner, King, M.Gardiner, Armatige,
Proberly missed a few more, but its definately not that different, the only real loss was loosing A.Hamil.

In a business, it is very simply. You get a contract, and you do the work. If you do not get paid, I dont think you, or I, or anyone would be very happy, whether it is $1 or $10 billion dollars. Stop trying to justify it.
Just because the bloke wants money that he is entitled to, does not mean you have to try portray him as being the a horrible bloke.

Gtrain on the list but nowhere near his form of yesteryear.
Harvey 4 years younger
Goose been out for 2 years almost
Lenny 4 years odler than 04
So, tell me who we have replaced these players with??? That makes us just as good if not better?
Then again, I reckon that you just don't get it. Hamill hardly played anyway.
Goose > Gilbert
Fiora < Black
Who's replaced Penny or Aussie?
Gram < Aussie
Dempster < Voss
Charlie <<<<<<<<<< Hamill. Can't even get a game FFS.
Mini < Powell
CJ < Frankie
Get a clue

Gwilt plays a very good game last week in attack, starts in defence and gets spanked...COACH
Dempster plays on Cloke whilst Fisher and Blake are up the ground...COACH
Geary again does not touch the ball, what was his roles?...bad selection...COACH
Forward line structure is absolutely non existent...COACH
Team continues to kick it long to no forward structure ...COACH
I could go on, BLAH BLAH BLAH...
Ross only plays BJ in the midfield once the game is nearly gone, same for Fisher, his matchups struggle at best and only when he does some rearranging do we start to even up...
I simply don't think he can coach, nothing against the bloke, he seems a good bloke...just can't see him taking us anywhere...
Its not all the coaches fault, but the way we are playing, and yes its been for three weeks now, we would not beat the Bombers, Ruchmond or Carlton at present and how disappointed would we be then...

My understanding was that the issue resolved was the interest owing/not owing?JeffDunne wrote:I thought the issue between GT & RB had been resolved?
Wasn't that what the court case between the 2 was about?
I'm sure no-one on here truly believed that RB 'gave' GT the million dollars as a 'gift'. If they did they wouldn't then be able to claim he gave GT the coaching job at the salary he got so that he (GT) could 'repay the loan', could they?

the coach has to take some blame for the performace in this ordinary display.
coaching is not all about tactics and knowledge, coaches need to be able to inspire their players get them up for each game and obviously this is not one of lyons strengths.
once again we have hired a coach who is not the whole package because we need one who has those combined skills.
looking at the past 15 years the coach that comes closest to those reqiurements that has coached the club is stan alves.
he not only managed to get the side into a grand final, he told a few home truths when needed to be told.

Usual ST Kilda supporters response blame the coach.
Could not possibly blame the players that are idolised.
Maybe i am wrong but are the players not paid massive amounts of money if they need a coach to motivate them then thay are kidding themselves. The fact is that three weeks in a row we have played undermanned teams for one close win.
Any player worth anything would be capable of inspiring themselves when a place in the finals is on the line and when Harves is playing his last month.
Usual suspects let us down, the fact is we have gone backwards every year since 2004.
Time the Lyon haters actually took a look at the list with out the Rose coloured galsses on and looked at performance rather than reputation.

Harvey - gawn
Lenny - older
Powell - gawn
Peckett - gawn
Thommo - gawn
Aussie - gawn
Hammill - gawn
Goose -injured
Black - gawn
Voss - gawn
Penny - gawn
04 - 06 we smacked clubs like Carlton, Hawks, Dogs, Tiges... they were crap then. We also got smacked by Swans, Eagles, Freeo, Brisbane. Or do we forget this?
Are you serious? Either you are on illegal substances, like strring people up... or an incredible imbecile.
How can you look in the mirror and take your opinions seriously? Tell us how we have replaced the above names with better talent, Einstein
Tool of the night IMO.
Harvey - <----- ON THE LIST
Lenny - <----- ON THE LIST
Powell - gawn
Peckett - gawn
Thommo - <----- ON THE LIST IN 07 UNDER ROSS
Aussie - gawn
Hammill - gawn
Goose <----- ON THE LIST (Sure hes injured, so was Goddard 06, so call it even)
Black - gawn (Yea, at the end of 04!)
Voss - gawn
Penny - gawn (Again, gone in 05 or was it 04?)
The only real good player that Ross didnt have that Grant did was Arron Hamil.
Your forget to mention that Ross also got the 37 not the 32 yr version of Harvey, Gehrig or Hamill.
Kepp deluding yourself pal......and yeah...we got Geelongs C Gardiner now so that squares the ledger....
RL has
Roo at 25, ie peaking
Kosi playing more than 3 games a year
BJ & Dal with experience.
Max playing as good as ever
S Fisher peaking
And by far a weaker comp than 04-06....
I neither agree or disagree on the list, but we can all quote bits and pieces of the list

Give me a break, you don't like the coach and suddenly you idolise the players, ever thought the coach is no good and the players, although better than what they are playing are no world beaters.Junior wrote:Usual ST Kilda supporters response blame the coach.
The standard of the comp is terrible at present, we should be up there with the Bullies and Hawks, behind the Cats but way in front of where we are.
That is not idolising players.

its not about being a lyon hater or not its about ross lyons ability to get the players to respond to him.
we all knew collingwood were going to come out all guns blazing and we seemed to lay down and accept that.
also argubly our best ever player has announced his retirement and we didnt even put up a fight on his behalf.
it is the players fault we lost the game but isnt part of the coaches job desciption to get his side mentally ready for a contest and he simply cannot do this which evedently sums up our 2 year reign under ross lyon.
i have a heavy heart for this club ive stuck with it through thick and thin and will continue to regardless of my changing opinion week in week out.
we all hate to lose and love to win, all we can ask for is that the players have pride in their jumper and have a crack every time they wear it.
maybe they can take a leaf out of collingwoods book and love and be proud of the jumper they are wearing.

maverick how about you give me a break, look at our record since 2004 both under Thomas and Lyon we have gone backwards each year. If you honestly believe that we should be up with the Hawks and the Dogs then i would suggest that you wear rose coloured glasses. There is a load of people on this forum who idolise the players and just blame the coach.
You summed it up when you said that the competiton is weak at the moment yet we still are struggling. The point i am making is that the players need to take responsibility for their actions, for the record i am not a Lyon fan but reckon that the players are mentally inept.
I posted before the game on this forum that Collingwood would win because i know when the going gwets tough that the majority of players go missing. People can argue that he coach needs to be able to have them mentally preparred but surely with a month to go and a place in the eight up for grabs the players should be able to motivate themselves.
The majortiy od our supporters rate our list on reputation not what the actual output is. Kosi is a prime example he is not a great player would only just be in the top ten at the club this year on performance. His best is outstanding is worst terrible.
All i want is for the players to give 100% week in week out and show some respect for the jumper we all knew Collingwood would come out firing and Lyon said as much in a pre game interview. I would suggest that Riewoldt and Harvey, Sam Fisher and Goddard and Max do not rely upon the coach getting them up for a game. Any player who runs out on the ground not mentally and physically prepared to give his all for the club should bugger off and play elsewhere.
I reckon our team is good enough to make the eight but is not a top four side.

You made a general comment so I responded.
We all want them to give 100%, but when BJ is played at FB, Gwilt in defence and Dal at HB, I can understand how they LOOK like they are not giving their all.
Our team is good enough to make top 4, we are better than Sydney, Adelaide, Collingwood and North who are all our rivals.
Not sure any better than that but top 4, in this comp definitely top 4.
Limping into 8th with an interstate final is a poor result, especially the way we are playing...
