It will be a sad, sad day but inevitably it is going to happen. We have all just taken for granted that the great man can go on for ever & in my dreams he will. Robert Harvey is an enigma, he is a once in a lifetime experience & fortunaley for us we have been privileged to witness his proess not just by the way he plays the game but his humility off the field as well. He is an out & out legend of the game, not just to St.Kilda supporters but the football public as a whole. As I write this post it brings a lump to my throat & to imagine a St.Kilda side without him being part of it seems unthinkable. He has given & given with the faint hope that maybe the fairytale is still reachable . You can probably blame injuries at crucial times, maybe even umpires but to see this champion of the St.Kilda faithful retire without what is rightfully "his" hurts like hell.

"Our season is still alive," Lyon said. "It's not the end for Robert."

Harvey's mates stood listening to those words, perhaps planning to keep the AFL's longest career lingering a while yet. Then turned into softcocks and blew it YET again.

if we were to get to say a semi or prelim and unfortunately get knocked out i think the obvious thing would him being chaired from the field

i think the football world would love to say goodbye in the best way possible regardless of the venue

"It's a work in progress," Lyon said.

the perfect send-off would be coming from a grand final win  cant see it happening this year...unfortunately for harvs...but it would definately be something special if it happened.

i really hope the saints continue to push themselves towards the finals cos of him.

Players need to show respect by making sure the next seven games they play will be the best of their lives!
That's 28 hard-at-it quarters saints (ooh, sounds much harder that way)

(14-8 should take 4th)

this week will be the biggest test for us. if we can beat collingwood convincingly, from start to finish, we may just have the right momentum to carry us over to perth (even though colly will be severly undermanned- no didak, no shaws, no o'bree?).

the last four games of the season will make or break us and determine whether we will do any damage in hte finale. hopefully we cna re-capture some of that confidence we had a few weeks ago and start playing for each other again and for the team. only loosing by 9 points last time, this will definately be a huge test.

Is there not something we can do as supporters to give him a fitting send off as he comes off the ground? Its just a touch more special than the normal retirement with the standard chair off.

Fairwell game in this year's Grand Final with a Norm Smith under his belt... That would be a fair effort.

if his last game does (unfortunately) happen to be interstate, i would hope the club would organise something at moorabin...SOMETHING at least...so the supporters can come profess their undying love for the man.
i really hope that happens.
he is one footy player that deserves the biggest send-off.

no doubt he will have much less fanfare than that of james hird who let his retirement parade go on for weeks on end with endless pages of the paper dedicated to it.
anyone else highly doubt that will be the case for harvs?
and he deserves it much more IMO.

i will miss you bally. but i guess you just didn't want to be here.

heres hoping you are regretting that choice on that last day in september 2010 - go saints.

Just another reason to win this week and book a september tribute to the man :x
doubt he would be saying it on the footy show. doesn't seem like him to announce it via the footy show

SEN also just ran with the rumour just before the 8.30am news.

Would be 20 years to the day from his debut.

It'd be only too fitting! WE NEED TO LIFT! The excuses have just run out! Harvey- outright champion!

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

If this is all true - and its fast becoming more evident that it is.....
there will be more grown men, women and children crying in the streets since, well.....you would know the answer to that.

Bye Bye Mr StKilda Goodbye.....Robert Harvey you are STKILDA!

To the rest of ya - FIRE THE DAMN UP AND PLAY LIKE YOUR LIVES DEPEND ON IT...DO NOT GIVE UP, DO NOT STOP RUNNING, DO NOT GIVE IN...to do so would be the greatest disrespect to our jumper & OUR GREATEST CHAMPION!

Well we all know that inevitable.
I just heard Harves speech announcing his retirement in StKilda's last game this year.
There is still hope it could be the ultimate !

I found it typical of the man he said he might just keep showing up to pre season training because he loves that part so much !

Harves always trained himself. Didn't need much motivation.

Let's all get behind him and get to every one of his last games.

If he does do the pre-season - Is there any scope for 'un-announcing' his retirement?
