SEN Quiz: Is Riewoldt better than Hodge

Post: # 612838Post markinUSA »

The question of the day is: Who is the best No.1 draft pick - Riewoldt or Hodge?

When I looked at it, Nick was really trailing behind Hodge - 62 votes compared to 124.

So if you care about these kind of things, I'd encourage you to vote for Nick. If not, never mind!

I really dont get the Rooey V everyone else obsession.

Its like how every overseas celeb is asked do they like Australia when they visit.

Why do they want us to justify his place in his field.

Must be a joke question. And wasn't Chris Judd in the same draft as Hodge? Judd is far superior to Hodge, in every aspect of the game.

The three best players going around are Judd, Riewoldt and Brown. And what about the Geelong guys? Well, they are not far behind and there are about ten of them - which is why they are certs for the flag, but I guess I'm not breaking any startling news to anyone on that front.

Judd was No 3 and Luke Ball was No 2 in the year that Hodge went No 1 !!

I wish i could get a bet online that Luke Hodge will be broken down in around 3 or 4 years time.

I'd slam $100 on it.

Just have a feeling, cause of all those accusations, that he hit it quite hard when he was into it and it'll be interesting come a few years time to see the long lasting effect that it had.

And by the way;

These are Riewoldt's Carrer Highlights;

St. Kilda Pre-season Cup Winning sides 2008, 2004
St. Kilda Football Club Captain 2008, 2005
St. Kilda Football Club Co-Captain 2007
St. Kilda Football Club Best and Fairest - 2007, 2006, 2004, 2002
All-Australian Team 2006, 2004
Leigh Matthews Trophy AFLPA MVP 2004
International Rules Series 2004
AFL Rising Star 2002

These are Luke Hodges;

All-Australian (2005)
International Rules Representative (2005)
AFL Rising Star Award Nomination (2002)
Hawthorn Best and Fairest (2005)

Don't give a crap what the votes say, to many voters live in the now and never look at a players entire carrer.

I'd take Roo anyday of the week.

Did you see Hodge against us? His kicking was TERRIBLE!

Hodge is one of the most overrated players in the comp.... He is so far behind Roo its not even worth debating...

Just a good honest flanker/mid is hodge...

I wouldn't say that.

Hodge can be a game breaker and he is tough.....He is awesome.....But not as awesome or as critical at Reiwoldt.

Hodge is a gun, usually one of the most damaging players in the comp, however he is in the top 10 midfielders, where as Riewoldt is in the top 3 KPPs, I know which one I'd prefer...

Hodge may be overhyped, but I honestly don't think he's overrated (though he had a shocker against us, so I imagine that ala Adam Goodes a lot of Saints supporters will decide he is). He gets the hype because he's the epitome of the modern midfielder.

Hard.
Can win hard or loose ball.
Good, long disposal off either foot (normally).
Good mark.
Smart player who makes good decisions.

He can be used in any area of the ground and be expected to deliver an advantage.

As far as comparing him to Reiwoldt goes, I think that's getting a bit ahead of things. Reiwoldt has the runs on the board, and has been delivering pretty much from the moment he stepped into the league. Hodge took some time. Would I like Reiwoldt or Hodge right now? Yes please. I'd take Hodge over any midfielder we've got right now, but Reiwoldt is more important to St Kilda than Hodge is to Hawthorn if that makes sense.

I would imaging that by the end of their careers however, that will be a very interesting debate.

Nick Riewoldt would be more important to any team than Luke Hodge.
Key Position players are hard to find.
Key Position players like him even harder.
A tough, talented mid-fielder shouldn't be judged against a tough, talented KPP -it's a nonsense.

Hodge ended up winning it.

It was a farce, Hodge is a fantastic footballer no question, but Reiwoldt is a superstar.

There seems to be a bit of this going on though, many people don't give Riewoldt he's due as one of the competitions elite.

The whole thing is/was a 'joke'.
It started by Billy Bunter Brownless giving his 'best draftpicks' in each position e.g. 'Best #1", Best #2', 'Best #3' etc.

He chose Hodge over Roo and then SEN decided to run a poll along the same lines.

Ask yourself the following question:-
If you were an AFL Club (not St Kilda or Hawthorn) and had first choice of selecting between Roo and Hodge for your Club, who would you take?

I'd reckon a vast majority would take Roo.

Exactly it's a bit hard to compare players, we obviously made the right choice because our midfield stocks are fine and Rooey is firign up foward so we are fine.
