What a disaster that will be - going from a high profile site in sight of the beach and close to cafes (not too related to footy one would think, but apparently key benefits of the Frankston Park site when first announced).

ST KILDA Football Club has confirmed its new training and administration facilities will be at either Belvedere or Frankston parks.

But with the club looking at a cost blow-out of $5 million, Belvedere Park is the stronger option.

Located in Seaford, Belvedere Park is larger and backs on to the proposed Frankston bypass route.

"Frankston Council is now reviewing these options and will make a decision," St Kilda spokesman Matt Schmidt said.

Council chief executive George Modrich said he wanted to achieve the "most cost-effective solution" for the club.

"Council is working closely with the Saints to ensure that their move meets all the objectives, including the wide range of community benefits that are being offered," he said.

The benefits include a rehabilitation pool and basketball and netball courts. But no one can say when the decision will be made.

"There are timelines," Mr Schmidt said.

But Frankston Dolphins' operations manager Bryan Mace said his club "needs a decision made quickly".

"From our point of view, we're gradually going broke without the grandstand," he said.

"We've lost around 400 people a game because they have not got the seating, which equates to around $40,000. And we've had some wet Sundays recently."

He said the Dolphins would not lose much if St Kilda relocated to Belvedere Park.

"We went along with St Kilda coming here because we thought it would be good for Frankston," Mr Mace said. "We've already got our own gym. Maybe we would have got some extra functions out of the Saints being at Frankston, that's all."

Completely hopeless.

Frankston Park is an amazing location in Frankston. I drove around there with my wife on Saturday and had lunch at Daveys Restaurant. Not very cosmopoliton (No soy milk for the wife).
Went passed when Frankston was playing and the ground was half empty and geez the cars were everywhere in the street. But how many spaces would you need for training?
Belvedere is a backwater. I agree with the previous comments.

Its Frankston Park or West Sydney. The other options are not options. My reasoning is not based on poorly written newspaper articles or media releases but inside knowledge. Moorabbin -forget it (why would you go to the Supreme Court if it was an option) and St Kilda (You're dreaming).

I'm curious to know why you guys are hanging sh!t on the club when they are making a move that is based on their desire to spend OUR money responsibly. We all know Frankston Park was the number one option, but if they can no longer afford to be there (for whatever reason), who are you to carry on as if the club is deliberately making poor decisions?

St KFC could have always:

* accepted what was on offer from Casey Council
* asked Casey Council for more
* gone back to Casey Council when Frankston Park fell over.

Had St Kilda done any of these, it would be much better off than it is now.

As far as any deal between Casey Council and Melbourne is concerned, it must be totally different because Melbourne isn't permanently relocating to Casey - just until it takes up residence at the rectangular stadium in Swan Street or at the MCG.

It will be interesting to see the various deals when they all fall into place.

Casey Council deal with Melbourne went to Council last week – report is on the Council website:

The Council resolved to execute an agreement subject to:

• transfer of $350,000 identified for spectator facilities on the outer into the project funding mix
• the solicitors making any necessary minor alterations to the documents
• a licence agreement between the Casey Scorps and MFC being finalised.

The deal is for a training facility (no admin other than football department), which will serve Melbourne until its new home at the MCG or the MRS is ready. It is just a larger gym and an additional change-room, on the lower floor and admin space for the Scorpions and Melbourne upstairs.

$2.1 million extension funded by:

• Council - $1.25 million
• MFC - $500,000
• State Govt funds - $350,000

The main part, though, is a major effort by Melbourne to connect with the Casey community through a community program worth around $600,000/year. This will include a summer training base, and regular in-season training.

All subject to a couple of points being sorted out it seems, but Jim Stynes has been on the radio saying it’s all but done and Melbourne is heading out to Casey.

With the Council putting in $1.25 million for just a temporary facility, imagine what they’d have done for the Saints permanent admin and training home.

What we could have had…….

But the point is:

The problem is Casey didn't make a good enough offer to StKilda which forced the Saints to look elsewhere.If the offer to Melbourne was the original offer to StKilda then we may well be at Casey,a very good location..

Casey made a better offer to St Kilda than to MFC. Fact.

But there were no cafes and sea views.

It's not surprising that there was a better offer to St KFC, given MFC's development is not a fullscale and permanent relocation of the club. It is entirely incorrect that Casey Council's deal with MFC is a better offer trha what was made to St KFC.

Anyone who says anything different has a back to protect!

And building works would have been underway at Casey Fields by now.

Incidently what sort of freehold asset is on offer at Belvedere Park

Firstly, I bet there isn't one at B/Park.

Secondly, you wouldn't want one there - it's the pits.

Thirdly, I think St KFC is trying to keep the commercially zoned block in Plowman Place which was part of the original deal (and for which Frankston Council has completed Local Government Act requirments to sell the land to St KFC) in any other deal involving an alternative location in the City of Frankston for the admin/training complex.
