Luke VanRheenan - stay or go
Well it's his second year on the rookie list which means he has to be either promoted or demoted at the end of the season.
His seasons over so i guess this one has already been put to bed
what do you think, stay or go?
suffice to say that he hasn't impressed much but (so the tale goes) has a lot of potential. Plays the position that we need up and comers in.

He's had a season long injury so there is no way of knowing how he would have progressed. He needed to improve to earn another chance so to keep him now is a gamble.I'm not sure if he can get another rookie year as this was his 2nd year,if he cant then the Saints have to draft him and that is
where the gamble lies....
I think they will promote Miles from the Rookie list.....

I would say all 3 of the mentioned players would be staying but especially Luke V R

Robert Harvey- Simply the best
As LVR is in his second year we can't retain him on the rookie list. But could we still delist him and then redraft him in the rookie draft?
Can't see Attard going anywhere other than onto the senior list. Basically cemented himself in the 22 last year and if he isn't kept as a rookie next year, it won't be because were delisting him, but instead that we're promoting him.

While there probably isn't room for him as a tagger with Dempster and the emergence of McQualter I can see him becoming a decent running HB or back pocket because from what I can remember he has a decent kick when he can get his hands and is also a good mobile size. Plus, the way the game is at the moment, there can always be plenty of running backmen in the team.

Perhaps. We have had Gilbert play on Betts, Rioli, Williams, and Aker towelled us up earlier in the year. Perhaps Attard would be good in this role, if he retains his speed after the injury.nicko016 wrote:While there probably isn't room for him as a tagger with Dempster and the emergence of McQualter I can see him becoming a decent running HB or back pocket because from what I can remember he has a decent kick when he can get his hands and is also a good mobile size. except in the back pocket shutting down those small forwards that often seem to get goals against us as we do not havea good option here when Bakes is out.Otiman wrote:

I would expect us to retain Attard as a rookie. Each club is allowed to maintain a list of up to six eligible players, whilst Brisbane and Sydney can list a maximum of nine. Up to three rookies can be retained for a second or third season, with the others having to be either delisted or elevated to the primary list at the time of the National Draft.
I'm also curious as to whether we'll retain Luke Van Rheenan. Ruckmen take longer, but as we have other options in the pipeline now, do we see him being able to achieve elevation after another 12 months, or are we better off using the spot for someone else.
From what I hear, there's supposed to be good depth in this years draft, which would signal it as being a good year to take rookie picks given the worries in the next few drafts.
Unless Van Rheenan is seen as a project likely to bear fruit, I'd suspect it'll be tough luck but seeya later.

Van Rheenen - Did nothing last year and injured this year. Was always a long shot and he hasn't shown enough to be retained. Delist
Attard - In peak form he was an average tagger who mildly negated his opponent and never goes near the footy himself. With the reco he will have lost pace (one of his few strengths). The form of Dempster, McQualter and Eddy will surely mean he is not kept. Delist
Chivers - Hasn't done anything to impress at any level. Delist
Eddy - Earning his spot at senior level. Elevate
McQualter - See above. Elevate
Miles - Injured for most of the year but has shown very promising signs when fit. Some chance of elevation, but I think he might spend another year on the rookie list. Retain
Haretuku - Not sure if he will count as a rookie or take the spot of anyone else. If he is a freebie then he'll stay. If not, he'll probably go.

He demonstrated he can shut down players and did enough in his first year to be rewarded with another year to make it.

We're going to have to take a serious look at our ruck stocks at the end of the year. We've got King, Gardiner & Rix who are specialist rucks then Kosi and Blake can pinch hit, then there's McEvoy who needs a bit of time. I think only Rix won't keep his spot next year. How many do you need on your list at once?
If we can retain him as a rookie I think we will. If not he won't be getting promoted to the senior list.

Yes. Worth elevating off the rookie list.saintly_safes wrote:Work with a guy that helps out at Swan Districts & he rekons Luke Miles is a gun. Pitty he been injured most of the season. Has anyone seen him play? If so what do you think? Is he worth hanging on to?
It's just a matter of him staying injury free.

Miles looks a likely type. He's safe; Eddy and McQualter have both earned a promotion.
Attard was an average player before he did his knee; Dempster has his spot now. Massively overrated by our fans. Can't find the footy - shut down roles can be performed by several others elsewhere.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.
