Well one thing todays game again demonstrated is that without Max that our back line has no rock....no general.

SO right there, so much for our improved defensive skills

Max provides all the back leadership....he is glue that binds the others together.

Todays game also reforced the importnace od structure....

One key forward is not enough....(and Gardi is nota key forward)

And a dominant FB is very important to the structure of the back half.

Meh, I thought the backline was the least of our worries really.

For the life of me though I cannot understand why Ross plays players like Fizz, Schneider & Milne in the backline.

Christ even Tony Shaw could see that wasn't going to work. :?

We lost for one simple reason - lack of effort across the board.

Fully agree on that..but this thread is about the backline.

Of concern too is that there is no one of our list looking anything like a future FB.

I actually thought the backline was pretty good until we let them run free through the centre.

Without Max we have no full back. Sam Fisher is best at running off half back, Gilbert is still developing. Maguire not playing.

His absence was probably the difference today.

Whenever Max gets injured it is very early in the game, leaving us one man down for interchanges for the majority of the game. It would have made a huge difference over there today in the heat.

Spot on, loosing Max leaves a massive hole in the team. Its time Goddard learn't you can't push people in the back, 2 goals tonight in a few minutes is not good enough for someone with his experience. Did the same thing last week as well. Verrrrrrrrry frustrating.

Max is the most underated player in the competion (outside of saints supporters )but as with all of us time takes its toll on the body & Max wont be arround for ever & as sad as it will be when he decides to hang up the boots we will need someone to slip into his shoes but at pressent the whole backline couldnt fill them

Max did a better job on that Franklin kid from Hawthorn than the so called best FB in the game Scarlett.

Max is underated no doubt.

Concern for us is that he is our only steady defender with Baker out.

No excuse. Glass didn't play, nor did Hunter. We got beaten by a WAFL standard club. Casey would've beaten St.Kilda yesterday

I am noy making an excuse....I am indentifying it as a weakness that our other backs are mentally fragile. This is the reality.

Players from other teams don't underrate him\ trent Croad on game day this morning said as much- he is a rock

and without Goose- his very able second who also directs traffic and holds them together and keeps them out of trouble the back line was lessened

BJ has owrkde more toward the wings and running forward- a strength he has
