Plugger if it's the greatest 2 weeks of your life every 4 years then you need to get out more
Im just interested in why you dont like it.
It's just not my cup of tea.

Buggered if I know why we put athletes on pedestals, laud them as "Heroes" and give them ticker-tape parades when they come back from the Games. I just think sometimes we get our priorities wrong in life when recognising Australian heroes. Anyway, this could cross into another tangent....

Still, each to their own when it comes down to it.....!
Dont we do EXACTLY the same with our footballers?

I love the Olympics.

I reckon you need heroes. It is very important and lets face it I would rather have a sporting hero that a polition. By the way only had 2 heroes myself Plugger and the mighty G Norman.

I think we all have/had 2 heros, mine being Kerry Packer and Carl Ditterich. I have something in common with both of them;

Carl & I are both GREY

Packer & I are/were both UGLY !!

Oh no doubt they are better choices than politicians and I won't dispute that, but imo, I think our heroes range from those who serve the local community, such as those who devote their lives to looking after the frail, elderly and disabled (and very rarely get recognition for what they sacrifice), to the people who go off and serve their country in a theatre of war (for reasons right or wrong) and sacrifice their limbs or minds or lives, or just come back safe.

Using that logic, my hero is my Dad as he has done both!

Sorry I know it's off the topic!

Sandy Roberts?? sheesh I dunno if I could stomach 2 weeks of "Oh my HAT dont tell me he's kicked it??!!"

Anyways. methinks he'll be calling the Gymnastics with Liz whats-her-name...and will end up in primetime anyway because every bloody Olympics actual interesting sports get shoved aside for hours of freaking primetime preliminary heats of gymnastics..cos its family-friendly and females watch it.

Yep i must admit i was frustrated about the commentators too. Absolutely ridden us off within 10mins and saying how we better shape up and then the constant drooling for buddy! And then in the second half they sort of praised st kilda however still very bias on hawks.

I believe that sports stars can definitley be heroes, but for more than their on field abililties.

My hero is Harvey, not only for his on field success but the way he presents himself and the values that he has upheld for the past 20 years.

I even wrote an essay on him for my GAT this year...

ROBERT HARVEY A.K.A The Great Man, Banger, Harves, Ol' Man River...
384 games, 4 B&F's, 3 EJ Whitten Medals, St.Kilda Captain, 2 Time Brownlow Medalist, 8 Time All Australian, 2nd Highest Brownlow votes poller.... The greatest of ALL TIME!!

Oh yeah, how did you go? (I did the GAT as well, how could I forget Harvey?)

Anyways, when i'm watching footy on the telly, i don't pay too much attention to commentators unless they say something like "hes down behind play!" or "he looks to be carrying an injury" or something important, normally the game speaks for itself

BTW, Saints vs Hawks game @ TD was the first game i have ever watched at a ground... yay hope there'll be plenty more

Damn, probs should have done that lol. I S-T-ruggled on the heroe's question...

Had a fair bit to write about diamons though. :P Pissed off, though cos I know I did better last year. And I thought they took ya best one, so I nailed last years, turns out it didnt mean s***, sooo not only did I just waste 3 hours of my life last year, I'm also gonna get a better score on a test that doesnt mean anything...

what gets to me is this is entertainment. I love Tripple M etc because they entertain and take the piss. Who wants to listen to serious dry old hacks that have chips on their shoulder. I want fun - its a weekend liven up!
Ugh. I know what you mean, but while the triple M guys to me represent the worst thing about modern footy commentary - they spend at least as much time commenting on themselves as they do on the football.

I've booked a flight to Australia for the last Saturday in September just in case.

I wouldn't cross the street to watch the Olympics

The commentators weren't to bad on sat I don't think. The channel 7 commentators on the other hand annoy me much much more . What I don't like about Quatermain is he is a one eyed hawthorn supporter and that does come through I think + Blight rubs me up the wrong way
