BJ the silent assassin?
just turned 23
100 games under the belt
height 189/190 cm
exceptionally good long kick
exceptionally good overhead mark
strong lead
averageing 7.5 marks per game
averaging 21 possessions per game
in 2008
(noting season lowest was 15, season high 28, 9 games at 19 - 22 possessions)
just going about his business, under the radar, in the backline, drifting up forward, splitting the packs with penetrating kicking upfield.
will just get better.
doesn't do the flash, doesn't try and use his pace, just keeps on ticking, running hard across the field, leading hard through the back line, and then switching across the field or driving long to a leading forward.
given he wont reach his peak for another 2 or 3 seasons, just ticking along nicely.
wouldn't mind seeing riewoldt at FF and BJ at CHF to be honest with Kosi at CHB.

Always felt that Roo doesn't have the physicality to be a CHF like Brown.
Any reason why u wouldn't have Kozi at CHF?
I can understand why BJ, gtreat mark and could slot quite a few goals from 50m, though.

The lid is off after Round 2! Enjoy the journey, coz you just don't know where we'll end up. Live for today and seize the moment.

I cant think of too many players who have come back from a reconstruction better than BJ. I do think he'd be wasted at CHF though. Better value for the team through the midfield.
His vision and disposal are as good as anyone going around. I'd rather have him hitting Roo and Kosi on the chest 9 time out of 10 with 50-60 metre passes than have him as the target.

Nothing wrong with playing Kosi at CHF, I just think goddard would be better at it.
Roo running out of the goal square with his burst pace would be impossible to stop and goddard has all the hallmarks of a great talented CHF.
Kosi looks as comfortable at FB and CHB as he does at HF, I think goddard while doing really well, is underutilised on the HBF.

Kossie
I think would not be comfortable as mentioned by Dan
Lacks speed and agility/quick sideway movement......
Yes did win RS at CHB.......now a different shape body ....and above also limited by injury......
Whilst not a genuine ruck(needs time in there).......is damaging in forward line as a floater(difficult to fully explain)....
FF.....not a great lead
CHF......would not be able to play lead up roll.....continually like Roo

but he is an outstanding mark, and for a man of his shape is a beautiful kick of the footy.
I think there is still a bit of a country lad in him, as when we were playing 'chippilotto' and other players were in two minds of what to do, if Kosi got the ball, he'd just bomb it long looking for FG or riewoldt and possibly create a goal scoring opportunity.
unlike a lot of others, he doesn't seem to play complicated football.
he marks it, and then handpasses to a runner, or kicks it to whoever leads.
gotta love him

Agree on his importance, his under rated comeback and all his attributes. I am one though who agrees he is best suited as a midfielder/winger/back flanker. You dont waste field kicking like that up forward you utilise it to get better shots at goal for your forwards.
Would be a good test for his developement to see him have to pinch hit like Silvagni used to at some stage but not every week as a tac tic IMO.
BJ will captain this club, he is a star.

Have to say though, I cringe a little when BJ chooses to dink the ball 20m to the pocket when he's kicking out from full back
Sheesh the bloke could hit an ant between the eyes 60m away, do you reckon we could maybe use that skill if hes the designated kicker.?????
God love her, AOK's Mum could chip the ball 20m to Gwilt sitting in the pocket, Why have one of the best kicks in the comp do it when the ball could be 70m down the ground?

But the key is the word nearly.Teflon wrote:I distinctly notice that BJ appears to be hanging on to the footy a little longer these days and he was nearly caught a few times on Friday...anyone else notice this?
In his early days he'd hang onto it too long and actually get caught - hence the rabbit in the headlights analogy he was given.
These days I think it's through more of a General role and looking forward rather than sideways.
He gets frustrated, he displays it, and I love it. He's passionate, even when it's him who stuffs up.
Others make a blue and hang their head, BJ gets angry about it.

Along with Roo and Maxy one of the few to really let their emotions show.
I'm not suggesting no one else feels as much for the club but with those boys you really see it.
I'm loving his intensity and focus this season.

I think it's a sign of a good player when they hold onto it a little longer then most to make sure they use the ball perfectly. I would always rather a player steady and kick well then panic and kick quickly
