The run home...
For those who still believe we have a shot at finals action, here's what lies ahead:
14. North Melbourne @ Gold Coast Stadium, Saturday Night, Away (?)
15. Carlton @ MCG (about time), Friday Night, Away (W)
16. Hawthorn @ TD, Saturday Night, Home (W)
17. West Coast @ Subiaco, Saturday, Away (?)
18. Port Adel @ TD, Sunday, Home (?)
19. Collingwood @ MCG, Saturday Night, Away (W)
20. Fremantle @ Subiaco, Sunday, Away (L)
21. Adelaide @ TD, Sunday, Home (?)
22. Essendon @ TD, Sunday Twilight, Away (W)
Ive put in brackets what I think how we will go, just speculation at this stage based on recent performances. 12 Wins is the minimum to be in the 8, so we have to win a couple of interstate matches if we are to be realistic for the finals. Nothings impossible, but we have to start being consistent now more then ever if we are ever going to play finals again.
Still 8 weeks to go, so anythings possible...
GO SAINTERS!!!

Another thing to consider, we're possibly the most predictable team in the AFL. Never win underdog games.
North Melbourne - Lose, it's interstate
Carlton - Win, it's carlton. We'll remain their bogey for 1 more game
Hawthorn - Lose, hawks
West Coast - Lose, interstate game
Port Adel - Lose, port=bogey side
Collingwood - Lose, corrupt umpiring
Fremantle - Lose, interstate
Adelaide - Lose, adelaide are better
Essendon - Lose, bogey side.
1 more win for the year? That doesn't sound right.

Essendon a bogey side for the Saints? Not the last few years.brown-coat wrote:Another thing to consider, we're possibly the most predictable team in the AFL. Never win underdog games.

Adelaide are flat trackers, will go sliding out of the 8 backwards...hopefully worst form of the season by the time we get to 'em.
Hawks haven't won too many against us in recent years either.
Only one win sounds a bit unlikely. Whether you like defensive footy or not, one thing's for sure, if you can play it well, you can beat anybody.
I tell you what we will see. Defensive footy is crap and is not teaching young players how to play proper footy.degruch wrote:Essendon a bogey side for the Saints? I accept people have different opinions but good luck trying to draw a crowd watching what the saints currently serve up. I thought 22000 was huge on friday night all things considered.

We SHOULD beat : North, Carlton, West Coast (they're crap and tanking), Port (playing all the young kids), Fremantle (even at home they're rubbish) and Essendon.
We COULD beat: Collingwood, Adelaide
We WONT beat: Hawthorn
We have a very easy run home, if we don't make the finals it will be an absolute disgrace...

I reckon we're a very good chance against Hawthorn. They tend to play the MCG better than the Dome, and last year (2nd time around obviously) we showed that we match up quite well on them.Armoooo wrote:We SHOULD beat : North, Carlton, West Coast (they're crap and tanking), Port (playing all the young kids), Fremantle (even at home they're rubbish) and Essendon.

I see 5 "should win" games in that (Carlton, West Coast, Port, Fre, Essendon)... of those, Carlton and Port are easy to see turning into losses, and 2 of those games are at Subi, so risky to pencil in as wins.
North and the Pies are both borderline, and along with the Carlton game are probably the ones that ultimately define the season.
I don't think the Saints are without the ability to take it to Hawthorn and Adelaide, but on the strength of performances to date, haven't earned even a speculative tip until they beat someone at least like a North Melbourne or Collingwood... much like the way that next year the pundits will be much more conservative in the way they predict the Saints.

your dreaming right .... they have only lost 2 games this season against a red hot Bullys and the got their wake up call shock from the Roos . how we went against them 2 years ago means nothing
i dont buy into the bogey side b/s we beat carlton cause they a crap port beat us because we have brain fades

No Trav...I'm not joking. In fact, I'm right. Whether that means we'll beat them coming up, stuffed if I know. What I do know is, they haven't changed much from the team we beat late last year...although we have. Just depends which St Kilda turns up for the game. I don't believe in bogey teams either, but I do believe in confidence and matching up well against the opposition.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:degruch wrote:Essendon a bogey side for the Saints? Re: The run home...
St. Kilda - 5 games win, more if perform well
14. North Melbourne - Slightly underdogs but we can take them
15. Carlton @ MCG (about time) - shut judd/stevens/fev down = easy win
16. Hawthorn @ TD - most likely a loss but we've always seem to have something over the hawks. Our chances are better if bateman, crawf and guerra stay injured
17. West Coast @ Subiaco - easy % win
18. Port Adel @ TD - could go either way, depends on who Port plays. Chad cornes played last time and smashed us but his form isn't great atm
19. Collingwood @ MCG - close, need every player to perform
20. Fremantle @ Subiaco - easy win if we are at full strength
21. Adelaide @ TD - Adelaide's been good this year, close in losses and wins. underdogs
22. Essendon @ TD - although ladder would probably be fixed by the time it is rd 22, this win could give us a % boost and the 4 points
Richmond - 4-5 wins
Carlton
West Coast
Essendon
Brisbane
Geelong
Adelaide
Hawthorn
Fremantle
Melbourne
Carlton - 3?
Richmond
St Kilda
Sydney
Western Bulldogs
Adelaide
Port Adelaide
North Melbourne

Collingwood

Port Adelaide
From my point of view, we have the easiest draw home for the 4 teams excluding collingwood - carlton and north both have tough draws against strong top 8s while richmond has a draw similar to ours.
SAINTS, march in to September!

I'm not even going to guess after the mess I saw on Friday night. We only won by 8 points against a side who's won jack crap all season!...and it was our Home game!
North Melbourne will be a good starting point as to what we came away with on Friday night. Some confidence?? Players standing up?? Getting our leading goal kicker and a talented midfielder back is also another plus.
The players don't reckon they need rebuilding or topping up - let's hope they are finally prepared to put the next game where their mouths are!
Go get em Saints!!

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!
I would say on out and out quality of opposition you could not expect a better draw than that, No Geelong No Doggies No Sydney so only one top 4 side in Hawks and only 4 out of 9 against top 4 sides. Need to win all of the should win games and upset one or two of the sides above us.
Maybe this year?

As last years Grand Finalists Port have done - shut up shop, focus on the list....a lot can happen in a year...play kids work out who stays/who goes.
Making 8th does nothing for me - you get more reward for 12th. Call me what you like - thems the facts of our current biased comp and THIS year is more important than ever.
“Yeah….nah””
If you stop Franklin, you stop Hawks
The ball is kicked to him more than twice as much as Roughead as a forward target
the run home is better than playing Bulldogs and Hawks
We can beat the Pies and we will know that...will play hard
Adelaide are going backwards and i dont think they will make the finals
everyone pray that they dont win another one. Collingwood, although beaten some good teams are vulnerable as well

An even chance against most of those, depending on whether Saints or Stinky Saints come out to play.
Agreeing with St. Luke about last Friday - we won by 8 points, against a side that won 1 of 11, and we beat them with less scoring shots.
Also agree with Everton and Teflon...
Don't under-rate Adelaide. They're good.
Don't over-rate the Hawks, they're starting to get a few niggles and they remind me of us in 2004-5. A couple more injuries, a couple more public f-ups, they'll let it slip. They have the pedigree.

5 prelims in 7 years. 40 wins from 49 games.
2009 and 2010 were 2 of the 5 best years ever by the St.Kilda FC.
Thanks for all your efforts Saints.
