Did Harvey ever play with Trevor Barker???

Barks retired at the end of 1989, and Harv's second season was that year.

Barks got injured a lot towards the end of his career, but may have played alongside Harvs for a few games.

Does anyone know how many and which games they were (if any)???

absolutely remember the time well. Barks was playing down back a bit in 89. Seemed to be either carrying injuries or unfit but certainly wasnt playing a full game. harves was this pugsly little guy who looked as if he was meant to be out there. Wouldnt have played too closely together on the field but certainly shared the ground.

Yep, for Harvey, it's two degrees of separation from the 1966 premiership.

Harvey played with Barker, who in turn played with Barry Breen, who kicked THAT point.


Amazing - 42 years, and the man in the middle, Barker, played with someone who played in 1966 and someone who played in 2008.

I wonder if that's the greatest span of connection in the history of the game.

Thats a interesting stats site. What shocked me was some of the shocking crowd figures through the late 80's early 90's at all venues! 7000 - 9000 at many games. Quite a few I would have been at at moorabbin, but I dont ever seem to recall crowds quite that small. Vast areas of empty terraces yeah, but the stands alone would have held 3/4 of those figures and they were always very nearly full.

Anyway, just a observation.

Harvs and Barks played together 10 times:

4 times in 1988 - the end of the season (rnds 19,20,21,22)when Harv's debuted,
6 times in 1989 - rnds (4,5,17,20,21,22).

Round 21, 1989 v Melb at the G was the only winning team they played together in.

I went to a game in early 1980 at the Junction Oval v Fitzroy....it was bucketing rain there was just a touch over 5,000 there

We had only 9000 to a game v Freo at Optus Oval in..2002?

Yeah that game v Freo at Optus, crowd was 8078. I remember because I was the mascot for the day and I ran out with the team. Would have to be the lowest crowd for a game in Melbourne since Fitzroy got booted out.

Absolutely. Crowds of 28000 / 29000 were the norm. That stand at Moorabbin would hold the bulk of the crowd. The Huggins stand was for social club members only. And the outer on the grandstand side of the ground was always full. You knew a big crowd was looming when driving down South Rd - cars would be parked everywhere, we used to turn into Tucker?? Rd and park in there. Could comfortably hold over 30000 - from memory there was 35000 at the drawn game against the Pies in 1991 or 92??

I was at the 'G' the day Winmar kicked nine against Melbourne. Was one of my earliest football memories as I was only about 6 years old.

Was a very cold and wet day, Plugger was out injured with an ankle. Not too sure if it was the same one as he did in '88' out at Waverley against the dogs.

The reason I remember this game so clearly was because my dad used to do the stats for St.Kilda during the 80's and he was able to get me into the rooms after the game.

I managed to get nearly every autograph. I must have been like a kid in a lolly shop! I still have them all written inside the old footy record from that game. Nicky's autograph has a number 9 with a circle around it indicating how many goals he kicked that day.

I remember walking around the rooms as the players were all getting changed in awe of who they were. Paul Harding was very good, stayed back and chatted to us, Brett Bowey, Dean Rice, Barks of course but the one thing that I'll never forget was plugger on crutches in the corner of the room signing autographs. There must have been 50 people around him, not too disimilar to that toyota ad with all the people around him! Certainly that day was a highlight of my life!

Michael Tuck retired after the 1991 season so you could probably add the Tuck's to the list.
