Ivy Moyle on SEN !!
On my way out this morning I heard Ivy ring in to the boys on SEN. Some of her comments made my ears prick. She intimated that all was not as well as it could be between the coach and the players and that there were many people talking about this after yesterday's game.
For Ivy to actually or remotely bag anything St Kilda pubicly means that we all need to take more than a little notice. This wouldn't have been done without careful consideration.
For those who don't know who Ivy is;
Ivy is a lifelong (very passionate) saints fan. She was one of the founders of the "ANGELS", a womens group that has raised a whole lot of money for the club over many years. This group also facilitates networking for the wives & girlfriends of players, administrators and sponsors at the club. Ivy was awarded life membership of the club a couple of years ago. She is also the grandmother of Brett Moyle who played for the saints !!

Re: Ivy Moyle on SEN !!
Ivy left the game with about 10 minutes to go (which is not unusual as she needs to get out before teh main crowd) so I'm not too sure about what she means about people talking after the game?Eastern wrote:On my way out this morning I heard Ivy ring in to the boys on SEN. Was she referring to talkback callers on radio?
As she was leaving I mentioned to her that 'there's always next week' and she answered back in her inimitable style 'I've been following them for 60 years and I've seen a lot of next weeks!'
Has there ever been a more passionate Saints supporter?

Ivy was gearing up a couple of weeks back when they on Sen cut her short, but as noted, shes Red Black and White through and through, and never says a bad thing, so I beleive theres something in it.

Maybe or maybe its just BS being peddled by mischief makers?matrixcutter wrote:also interesting that a lot of folks on here have been saying the same thing about coach/player relationships.
wonder if we'll here any more on this??
Who knows?
I wouldn't have thought anyone on here who keep posting it as fact rather than their opinion really knows the truth?
Like so much other BS posted on here as fact when it is basically nothing more than opinion or wishful thinking.

Season 2024 is where RTB is showing the footy world his grasp of the modern game.

well it seems that if we get a whole heap of new players, with RL teaching them, it would crush their will to play football as well.bobmurray wrote:maybe it's the fallout from the "players are soft"comment Lyon made recently.......congorozides wrote:i heard sen also saying it was common knowledge there was a "rift" between players and coach. whatever that meanssaintsrus wrote:Ivy was gearing up a couple of weeks back when they on Sen cut her short, but as noted, shes Red Black and White through and through, and never says a bad thing, so I beleive theres something in it.

Wasnt Ivy the lady who in the first season of street talk on the footy show told sam newman to get stuffed because he thought she was a 'dill'.
Im glad even our loyal supporters those who wouldnt say a bad thing about the club are standing up and making there voices heard because we are better than we are playing.

and who would that be?SaintDippa wrote:Some work from coach-in-waiting behind the scenes?
On Ivy, this is not a good sign when one of the few who will stand up for anything red white and black starts being negative!

the players skills have gone backwards, their on field morale has gone backwards, changing the players isn't going to help much if the coach can't coach.
get a whole heap of young kids and RL will probably ruin them for any future they may have as footballers.
RL was pretty ordinary as a footballer and now he's pretty ordinary as a coach.
thats the only home truth.
the only reason we win games is on talent DESPITE ross lyon.

Could it be Nathan Burke? Nah surely not. As if our club would get their next coach from our own board.desertsaint wrote:A coach-in-waiting?
why the hell doesn't he come out of hiding and take over - we have an apparently very good assistant coach already on board to help out but the poor fellow is drowning at the moment.

Ross Lyon was as tough and uncompromising a footballer as any - much the same pedigree as Worsfold/Sheedy/Pagan...ironically hes cut from the cloth that seems to make a coach.....Dan Warna wrote:RL was pretty ordinary as a footballer and now he's pretty ordinary as a coach.chook23 wrote:Dan Warna wrote:well it seems that if we get a whole heap of new players, with RL teaching them, it would crush their will to play football as well.bobmurray wrote:maybe it's the fallout from the "players are soft"comment Lyon made recently.......congorozides wrote:i heard sen also saying it was common knowledge there was a "rift" between players and coach. whatever that meanssaintsrus wrote:Ivy was gearing up a couple of weeks back when they on Sen cut her short, but as noted, shes Red Black and White through and through, and never says a bad thing, so I beleive theres something in it.

Your asertion he was an ordinary player demonstrates your naivety and total lack of knowledge. You still believe its 2004 and GT is coming home.
Now GT...there WAS an ordinary footballer....but dont let facts get in the way of your story...

Gt played state footy back when it meant something so I think he was better than ordinary but I suppose if you hate someone facts shouldnt get in the way.Teflon wrote:Ross Lyon was as tough and uncompromising a footballer as any - much the same pedigree as Worsfold/Sheedy/Pagan...ironically hes cut from the cloth that seems to make a coach.....Dan Warna wrote:RL was pretty ordinary as a footballer and now he's pretty ordinary as a coach.chook23 wrote:Dan Warna wrote:well it seems that if we get a whole heap of new players, with RL teaching them, it would crush their will to play football as well.bobmurray wrote:maybe it's the fallout from the "players are soft"comment Lyon made recently.......congorozides wrote:i heard sen also saying it was common knowledge there was a "rift" between players and coach. whatever that meanssaintsrus wrote:Ivy was gearing up a couple of weeks back when they on Sen cut her short, but as noted, shes Red Black and White through and through, and never says a bad thing, so I beleive theres something in it.

I must agree with you for once Teffers, Lyon was undoubtedly a far better footballer than GT.Teflon wrote:Now GT...there WAS an ordinary footballer....but dont let facts get in the way of your story...
Not that either of them were exactly stars.
Personally, I don't think it matters terribly much what sort of player a coach was in the past. We have seen plenty of average players turn into good coaches and vice versa.
Having been a past great at your club does seem to give you a certain advantage in being able to command respect from your players. But it is only a small part of the overall mix of what makes one coach more effective than another.

He played for the Victoria 2nds, when they needed a few to fill the blanks. He had a couple of good years at the Saints, but certainly wasn't an AA CHBplugger66 wrote:Gt played state footy back when it meant something so I think he was better than ordinary but I suppose if you hate someone facts shouldnt get in the way.Teflon wrote:Ross Lyon was as tough and uncompromising a footballer as any - much the same pedigree as Worsfold/Sheedy/Pagan...ironically hes cut from the cloth that seems to make a coach.....Dan Warna wrote:RL was pretty ordinary as a footballer and now he's pretty ordinary as a coach.chook23 wrote:Dan Warna wrote:well it seems that if we get a whole heap of new players, with RL teaching them, it would crush their will to play football as well.bobmurray wrote:maybe it's the fallout from the "players are soft"comment Lyon made recently.......congorozides wrote:i heard sen also saying it was common knowledge there was a "rift" between players and coach. whatever that meanssaintsrus wrote:Ivy was gearing up a couple of weeks back when they on Sen cut her short, but as noted, shes Red Black and White through and through, and never says a bad thing, so I beleive theres something in it.
