The window is now shut
Have resisted accepting this for sometime but after today I honestly believe the rebuilding phase has to start from now...
We have serious list deficiencys and a rookie coach who is struggling to implement an effective game plan...
Hard ,unpalatable decisions on at least 8 to 10 players will be made at the end of the year and we may even have to look at the unthinkable option of trading one or two of the previous untoucables such as Kosi,Roo and Dal to get 3 or 4 quality kids for the future.
With the imminent retirements of Harves,Max and Gehrig we will need to find some quality next year or with the introduction of draft concessions in 2010 for the 2 new sides we will be waiting even longer for a new premiership window to open than any of us dare to imagine
For the first time in the last five years I am starting to believe that I may never be alive long enough to see the dream realised and thats a feeling thats almost too painful for words ...
Completely gutted and almost over it

If we dont do something drastic like trade good players to get good kids...we will be in the wildnerness for at least the next 10 years.saint patrick wrote:Have resisted accepting this for sometime but after today I honestly believe the rebuilding phase has to start from now...

New Club Gold Coast will have the top 5 picks for the next 5 years....think about that one...for the next five years.
Not a lot in our 2nds to hope on...
McEvoy being the best in there...
We have hit rock bottom folks.

We dont have anywhere near the talent.matrixcutter wrote:i think we have enough talent....
whether that talent decides to shine is another problem...
i really think positive thinking and confidence is half the problem.
the other half....well we all know who, errr what the other half of the problem is
Our skill level is absolutely woeful. Our legspeed is probably the worst in the comp.
We have no releaving midfield.
We do not have nearly enough youth or young players to promote.
We have another five years in the wilderness ahead of us unless we can have a turn around like the dogs 07/08.
And we are facing five years of compromised drafts coming up.
This is not a good time to start rebuilding, but we have to.

When Penny and then Hamill went, and with the injuries which have slowed and affected the kicking of Ball, Hayes and Goddard, that has been blindingly obvious.
There are players there who can play and who will be around for another ten years and it may take that long.
Number one priority is a full back who can take a mark. Max has been there for twelve years now and would not have taken twelve contested marks in the time. That's why we needed Penny. Alas, a pcl got him. We need to keep the ball in on the forward line. That's why we needed Hamill. Alas, a pcl got him too.
We need foot speed, not something you can teach. These can only be remedied by high draft picks. That's three years experimenting, but the Northern Crabs are likely to get the cream in the next few years. We can offer them Armitage although we won't get much in return - blokes who can't run, kick or mark are not in high demand.

The window is shut, deadbolted, key thrown away and moving house as we speak. If we don't start the tanking process now, we have left it too late. Luckily, we play Freo twice and West Coast. Lose those three and we get closer to the bottom. Freo need only win four more if we tank hard enough. We can give them two by playing like we did for half of today, and I can see Rich or Natinui (?) in the red, white and black next year. Trade Kosi for some leg speed or a FF and clean out the never-gonna-be's from the list.

If we cleaned out all the VFL standard players from the list, the turnover would be vast and it would be almost impossible to improve on the qualityWinmarvellous wrote:The window is shut, deadbolted, key thrown away and moving house as we speak. Yes the window is shut but I believe it may not take as long to open it again.
Essentially we still have the nucleous of a good side .
Bring Baker,Harvey,King,X.Clarke and Gilbert back into the side and things can turn around quickly. With Mcenvoy,Allen and Stevens coming through we have enough for some optimism in my opinion.
Lookat the dogs last year and Geelong the year before and sometimes a turn around of fortune is not as far away as feared.

So many looking for the "Easy" way out with drivel about our so called talented list... I cant believe people could watch that today, watch players run like trreacle, fail to tackle, miss goals from 30 direct in front (or kick out on full/not make distance), fail to man up AND STILL be saying the talents there and its all game plan....
Now thats funny.
“Yeah….nah””

The window is shut. I just wish it had closed on my fingers.
It hurts, but it looks like it's true. If we win more than 4 more games I'll be mighty surprised. We have 4 interstae trips in the second half of the season, and we play Hawthorn, & North Melbourne in Melbourne. My guess is that we'll not win any of those and we're only a 50/50 bet on most of the others.
OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!

One more loss and we might as well start playing for next season.
Bring in McEvoy and the other youngsters.
And show the door to all our duds.
It is better to gamble with young unproven players,
than persist with "proven failures".
