But the pick would have been the second one we had after #90 (used on King) - The first one would have presumably been for Dempster (steak knives with Schneider for pick #26)plugger66 wrote:It actually did cost us something. Hope Armitage and Ferguson get in.
In theory he (Charlie Gardiner) would have been a draft pick somewhere between number 110 and 120?
No he wouldnt because they only picked about 60 players so at the most it would be 61.Mr Magic wrote:But the pick would have been the second one we had after #90 (used on King) - The first one would have presumably been for Dempster (steak knives with Schneider for pick #26)plugger66 wrote:It actually did cost us something. B: Jason Blake, Max Hudghton, Sean Dempster
HB: Jason Gram, Sam Fisher, Brendon Goddard
C: Nick Dal Santo, Luke Ball, Leigh Montagna
HF: Adam Schneider, Nick Riewoldt, Clint Jones
F: Shane Birss, Justin Koschitzke, Stephen Milne
Foll: Steven King, Lenny Hayes, Robert Harvey
Int (from): Michael Gardiner, Jarryn Geary, Ben McEvoy, Andrew McQualter, Matthew Ferguson, David Armitage, James Gwilt
Blake, Dempster, Gram, Schneider, Jones and King all named on the ground...it would be nice to see these players at least get put under a little bit of pressure if they're going to be kept in the side after mediocre performances.
Weak selections which reek of a club in denial.

C. Gardiner could be our 3rd tall defender!
Why does LYON seem to pidgeon hole his players so much. He has absolutely no ability to think outside the square...he is either very slow or exceptionally stubborn of both. To me GARDINER is a better option than BLAKE, as he can run without falling over, can hit a target and is a smarter footballer...StSteven wrote:Charlie Gardiner.......why not. Another is GRAM who has been terrible down back this year but why not release him to a permanenty wing or HFF. Play Schneider in his role who has also been terrible up forward.
SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!

Just checked - there were 69 players drafted in the National Draft with Adelaide taking the final pick #75. 6 clubs had passed prior to that pick (#75) not including us, so presumably we would have had to take Dempster and Gardiner with our next 2 picks after #75 - whatever they transpired to be.plugger66 wrote:No he wouldnt because they only picked about 60 players so at the most it would be 61.Mr Magic wrote:But the pick would have been the second one we had after #90 (used on King) - The first one would have presumably been for Dempster (steak knives with Schneider for pick #26)plugger66 wrote:It actually did cost us something. Obviously all Clubs decided that they didn't want to draft any more players after pick #75 and either waited for the pre-season draft to fill out their lists or had already kept/drafted their full complememnt.
The fact is that Gardiner only ever cost us a pick at the end of the draft or at the end of the pre-season draft.
If Gwilt comes in he will be played on a wing not full back.
I hope big Ben McEvoy doe's make his debut but I think either Gardiner or King would have to be out for this to happen.
Ferguson kicked 8 in a game a couple of weeks ago but what has he done since ? May be given a last chance.
McQualter was in superb form early in the year but has dropped off. May be also given a last chance to show what he has at the top level.

The saints took Eljay at 70......so Gardiner and Demspter could have been instead picks 76 and 77.....Mr Magic wrote:Just checked - there were 69 players drafted in the National Draft with Adelaide taking the final pick #75. 6 clubs had passed prior to that pick (#75) not including us, so presumably we would have had to take Dempster and Gardiner with our next 2 picks after #75 - whatever they transpired to be.plugger66 wrote:No he wouldnt because they only picked about 60 players so at the most it would be 61.Mr Magic wrote:But the pick would have been the second one we had after #90 (used on King) - The first one would have presumably been for Dempster (steak knives with Schneider for pick #26)plugger66 wrote:It actually did cost us something. So that would make them less likely to have played this year than Eljay.......and as for the future....who knows this late in the draft..
Pick 69 was by freo for Kelper Bradley..
Pick 75 was by adelaide fora NSW Scholraship player (ie they could save this till last0...
So I think it is fair to say that by picks 76 and 77 that there was nota lot around.

not only that they aren't even on the bench, neither of them!JeffDunne wrote:Why is Schneider & Dempster still in the team (even the 25 named)?
Typical farking Lyon, it's his love children, untouchables.
What message does it send the rest of the team?
Sure, they may do something this week, but geez, give them the arse for a week and send a rocket up them FFS!

I mentioned in an earlier thread speculating on the possible outs , that for RL to drop them this week would be tantamount to calling the ex Swans soft.......and I bet my lefty he wouldn't be game, as the media would have a feast!!
An intresting one to say the least!JeffDunne wrote:

agree. i haven't seen a lot to like about either of them yet. schneider skilled but too small. dempster a bit of a robot.

Love to see couple of our blokes go up and give him a few hard wacks on his back and say welcome back mate ....st_Trav_ofWA wrote:
white back interesting
He was out with back soreness last week.
Dees fans were predicting that he would be back this week.

Schneider has been our very worst player in three of our last four games. The fact that he is still in that team indicates a match committee that is far too conservative and unwilling to try players who are showing good enough form at VFL level.
If Schneider has a repeat performance of last week and the week before and still plays against the Dogs, then surely there can be no other conclusion to make than the coaching panel playing favourites over obvious logic.
In my view, Schneider is a WEAK by WEAK proposition.
