Rookie Coaches
I've just come to a realisation.
When was the last time a rookie coach won a premiership in their first 5 years.
Blight won for Adelaide in 97, but he'd been to 3 GFs with Geelong.
Pagan, Worsfold, Roos, Thompson, and Clarkson (looking good) all built up their own lists. That is what a rookie coach has to do. Ross Lyon may well be a good coach, but he doesn't have the players that suit his football philosophies.
Ross Lyon may win a flag for St.Kilda, but it won't be for at least 3 years.
If we wanted to win a flag in 07-08, Grant Thomas should not have been sacked.

STRENGTH THROUGH LOYALTY.

The only problem with that is we will have to see Harvey and Hudghton leave us without a flag...

RL, wasgiven the job to get results, show me the indications that he WILL be a good coach, cause i cant see em,and not cause R WALLS said soLENNY LEADS THE WAY wrote:The list was going backwards if Gt was still here we would be in the same position.
Ross will be a good coach like u said lets give it some time Rome wasn't built in a day.
We will never win a flag under Ross Lyon and people that say Ross was to be better for the club made a huge error in judgement .There is no indicatation that his gameplay style suits our team or will produce results so brace yourselves fans cos we aint gonna win a flag while hes coach .Yeah this might be my first post but I've been a member at St.Kilda for 14 years and although i dont wanna say it I would rather put my membership dollars next year into the Melbourne Storm .We were closer to winning a final with GT .The team that won the NAB cup (and we were lucky to win that ) is not the team we see playin now we've gone from bad to worse .

While I agree that the list went backwards under GT I believe that GT was starting to make the decisions that needed to be made when he was sacked. We all know that he put Milne on the trade table and then was taken off. Who knows what other plans were on the way.LENNY LEADS THE WAY wrote:The list was going backwards if Gt was still here we would be in the same position.

Ross needs to play the kids now, at least they will be enthusiastic. Cull the crud at the end of the year. We are looking at a new era in rebuilding sides and it does not have to take long. The lions are beginning to look dangerous again only 4 years after the end of their last "era"
Players are going backwards under the Ross Lyon training regime.
what does he bring to the club?
Sydney experience? but he says we aren't sydney and we play nothing like sydney.
His playing career? he was an ordinary player who played in even more ordinary sides.
Barker? our forward line has been dysfunctional for the past 18 months.
can we blame injuries? We had chronic injuries in 04/05/06 and we performed better.
A brilliant game plan? doesn't seem to be working.
folks say the players are rubbish and its not the coach? we clearly know thats not true.
I'd shudder to think what poor rookies would do with Ross Lyon teaching them skills and strategy.

In hindsight, Lyon isn;t the best thing to happen to St Kilda, but GT wasn't going to get, or getting, the job done either. The process we went through was deliberate, so perhaps we should be looking at those responsible for his appointment (Walls AND the others), and asking the big questions of them.
Walls isnt responsible for the appointment, it is the board. No one was forced to listen to him. Shifting blame from our club.Winmarvellous wrote:In hindsight, Lyon isn;t the best thing to happen to St Kilda, but GT wasn't going to get, or getting, the job done either. ...that was a given wasn't it...he did come from the swans.....brown-coat wrote:But do we want Ross Lyons football philosophies? He could indeed build his own empire in 3 years time but would it be a negative, boring, inhibitive brand of football? It might be successful, but god it'll be boring!

GT lost me when we went into finals with NO ruck - did a great job with pride - BUT think too many players thought it was just going to happen!!!!! think many of current list still do - hence lack of PASSION (add to that abysmal recruiting ) - did you see News on ABC tonight on how Coll beat Cats - TACKLES - lowest tackle rate in AFL? US!!!
Stop blaming present coach - bite the bullett & give him & the present administration a fair go!

Would you feel inspired after a Ross Lyon address?
Would you fear a Ross Lyon bake?
