If we keep serving up the crap of late the Dees will spank us next week. Maybe next week is the litmus test for Lyon and his coaching crew if they can't beat Melbourne even by a point then they have to be gone. And replaced by anyone willing to take the torture of being head coach of the Saints and all the crap that comes with it.

I put up my hand to coach the games in future weeks in a fill in basis until our next coach is released form the Asylem. I couldn't do any worse than what we have now.

I didn't see/hear any of the game today but it has become obvious that all of the players who only scrape through at senior level need to go. Play the kids and guys who haven't had a chance to prove themselves.

Over the next few weeks I want to see these guys play every game
Geary
Armitage
Allen
Ferguson
McQualter
Gwilt

The first 3 should stay in the team all year, while the last three should be given a few weeks to save their careers.

No more
Dempster
Blake
Jones
Fiora

And the following players should have a few senior games
Howard
Steven
McEvoy

On form Gram and Schneider should both be dropped but I can't see it happening.

We have absolutely no chance of making it far in September this year so we might as well try and get something out of the year (unlike 2007, when things only got worse). Unfortunately I fear that Lyon may stick with the same bunch of hacks in hope that we'll win 11 games and he'll try to keep his job, sayng it was a great effort considering injuries, the changing game, umpires, bad draw etc....

Yep just play guys for the rest of the year even if they are crap. That is rubbish. Geary was no good today and if he plays like that next week he should be dropped. No one deserves a guareented game even if we a blooding yound guys. You need to earn your games. You want Allen to play every game and he is struggling for a kick at Scorps.

FYI Jones was much better than Geary today...Geary made many mistakes (i am not shooting the kid as I rate him..but today he was awful...)

Also why is Ferg to be given more of a go that Jones.

However yes I wanta few more players to be tried out.

Sounds great. However it would be very surprising to see Lyon shown the door before seasons end.
Probably more chance of winning Powerball, but you can only but hope.

What about
Lyon Out
Robert Harvey In?

I don't rate CJ, and think Geary may struggle to make it, but give them a chance, giving them one game up there is hardly giving them that. the players I mentioned played worse than them IMO.

Here's how I would line up:

B L Fisher Hudghton Blake
HB Geary S Fisher Goddard
C McQualter Armitage Jones
HF Birss Riewoldt Harvey
F Milne Koschitzcke Ferguson
R Gardiner Hayes Ball
INT King Dal Santo Howard Montagna
EMERG McEvoy Gwilt Allen

With Dal on the bench for being selfish and Joey on there as the next one out if his efforts don't improve
Well done Mav... excellent points. Could not agree more with your ins & outs with the exception of McQualter (who I just don't think is up to it). Would have rather seen Eddy get promoted.

I want to see Armo, Mini and Ferguson in. I'm not sold on Geary getting a few cheap touches in the back half. I think he needs more time at Casey. I don't see a spot for Allen or Gwilt either.
No more
Dempster

I'm with you on Dempster and Fiora. Jones is a tough ball magnet. Sure, his disposal is bad, but so was Powell's, and he was useful. Blake should be playing CHB.

And the following players should have a few senior games
Howard
Steven
McEvoy

On form Gram and Schneider should both be dropped but I can't see it happening.
We could give Howard a shot at Gram's spot and Steven a shot at Schneider's. I'd be fine resting King or Gardiner for a week to see what McEvoy's got. Playing against second rucks and spending some time up forward isn't going to hurt us or McEvoy any.
We have absolutely no chance of making it far in September this year so we might as well try and get something out of the year (unlike 2007, when things only got worse).
The team should be playing for September no matter what happens. I don't think playing kids will ruin us, particularly if we work them in gradually. Most of the guys who they'd be replacing have been terrible anyway. Some youth might actually inject some energy into the side.

Have we given up already ?
If so play Geary next week ?- but he stank it up this week bigtime and looks a bit off the required level. If he is our best young gun at the moment heaven help us. Play Fiora ? - we got our just desserts playing him this week considering he had no form at Casey,
Play Schneider ? - carried him all year - one half acceptable game for us.( pity Armo wasn't given the same opportunity.)
Concerned who we bring up from Casey - can they adjust to the next level - it would appear not.

Out: 50m bombs into the forward 50.

In: Kicks into space in front of a leading forward.

Out (of the forward 50): Kosi, Roo.

In (to the forward 50): smaller quicker leading types, removing the automatic thought process of 'kick it long and high - Kosi and Roo can out mark 2 or 3 opponents.

Out: The person proposing Burke for coach. You would have to be kidding.

In: Lyon to at least the end of 2009.

Was explained to us at the SEQ function that Armitage was dropped because physically and mentally he is not quite up to playing long spells in the seniors. By that I mean the amount of games not game time. They said it can crush the young kids mentally. Expecially a tough team like the lions. Where as CJ and Geary havn't played for a few weeks. Also explained that Allen hasn't been chosen because he hasn't played well enough for the Casey's, but is very close. Ferguson was at the function, fantastic young man, won alot of fans, spoke very well. Also very close to getting a game.

nice work bev
8-)

love interstate functions, always a chance to hear and catch up with players.

on the changes thing........maybe the better players so far this year need the rest this week and the ones that are on the fringe should be played and if they dont prove themselves then they get the old heave ho
just a thought

Thanks for that insight Bev.

Well it certainly crushed a few not so young kids today!!!!!

The problem for our players though is that we had a higher average age...and more games...BUT we are the mentally week team!!!!!

Lions vs Saints
24yr 8mth Age 26yr 2mth
82.8 Games 112.1

Ferg deservesa shot next week..

Fiora and L Fisher both definately do not.......and Schneider must be on thin ground after two bad games.

One thing I forgot to mention is they said that if Schnider didn't play well today he wouldn't play next week.

We hit them with alot of "prickly" questions and I thought they were very good. Didn't skirt the issues and explained why things are done very well. I actually think they might know what they are doing

I would really urge fans to get along to these type of functions, because seriously what you read in the media is total crap.

Yes I agree we are not mentally tough and that is being addressed also.

I agree...but one disappointing aspect of the Social Club in Melbourne is that not one coach or assistant coach has been in the rooms...nor for that matter any club officials.

No not all..

The SC has Bruce Eva compering it...and normally 4 players come in after each game and are interviewed.

It is not a Q &A format except for Bruce....
