The clean out we have to have

Post: # 573921Post To the top »

Firstly, I would seek to retain Harvey because he is still one of our most valuable players, if not the most valuable.

But the following I would de-list:-

L. Fisher - Form has stagnated.
Dempster - Typical of the type we have recruited - previous club had it right
Geary - Indicative of the types we have drafted recently. Not up to it.
Jones - Same as Geary
Fiora - As per Dempster
C. Gardiner - As per Dempster
Gwilt - Same as Geary
Milne - As per Dempster
Gehrig - Self explanatory. No longer an AFL footballer.
Ferguson - Had it right the first time
Rix - As per Dempster
Birss - As per Dempster
Baker - Same as Gehrig.
McQualter - Had it right the first time

So 14 spots up to be filled.

And the reasons for the position we are in is that we have 14 spots on our list needing to be filled with AFL standard footballers.

I would retain Hudgden for a further year, but to play in a back pocket, not full back.

It would be virtually impossible to draft 14 AFL standard players in one year,
we haven't been able to do it over a number of years.....

We couldn't replace 14 departures in one off-season. For that reason along I'd be inclined to keep Milne, Baker, Geary and Jones.

Geary...too early to tell..he has only playeda few games and so your call is harsh.

Birss was actually quite good today...and was last week too.

Milne...is always up and down as are most FP's...and today there was nota lot of forward ball.

Baker....too early for such a call.

Jones...far fro our worst at present.

Mate I would add a few others to that as well. Too many big heads at the club.

Geeze, settle down. I love him sometimes, but he has cost us the odd game. He does sing the team song well too.

Good post. But I would try and delist King and gardiner as well. Pick 207 this year is expected to be a star.

Getting rid of these guys isn't going to make us better. We need to find

a match winner. Our top 10 players are the real problem. When is the last

time one of them turned a match? Today in the second quarter Roo,

Lenny, Ball and NDS all had a chance to make an impact and turned the

ball over resulting in an opposition goal. They need to put their stamp on

a game.

The way i see it, the end of the year will see the departure of the following players:

Harvey: retirement
Hudghton: retirement
Gehrig: retirement
King: retirement

De-listed will be:

Rix
Ferguson (let him show if he can play!!!)
Gwilt
Fiora

That's plenty

My first de-listing would be Barker - has not delivered anything to our forwards.

Please The Dud change your av to JB.

He is a dud.

Anyone disagree please show me his forward structure plan and how it's rocketed us forward since he came on board.

Next may be SOS.

At least let Ferg play a couple of games, he can't possibly be worse than Fiora, L Fisher or Dempster? If we had of put the 100 games into him instead of Fiora or Raph we could have had a player. IMO

Iceman, I agree. I said it on this forum a while ago. We have the most dysfunctional, disorganised forward set up in the league.

We complain about our midfielders' delivery to our forwards, but there's quite a bit more to it than kicking skills alone.

Bring back Terry Daniher - PLEASE!!!!!!

CJ is not the worlds best player and his disposal needs attention but he has a crack and the pressure he applies by pure effort caused several turn overs today. He is worth persisting with as his disposal has improved in the last few weeks.

Geary has to given time to develop too he is playing his first year of AFL and you can't expect him to come in as a ready made player. He will get a taste this year and hopefully develop more over the off season.

Leroy - only ever going to be our 2nd string tagger to Bakes.

Demmy - would give him one more year.

Fizzer - GAWN

C. Gardiner - If he was our lead up forward and we used him he might actually give us something. But we are too Roo orientated. He needs more defensive side to his game but not alone there!

Gwilt - Was worth a punt at the Draft but his time has expired.

Milne - The most frustrating and in consistent player in the club.

Gehrig - Worth a punt if fit better than any kid @ pick 66.

Ferguson - If he could earn a spot in his first attempt why give another one?

Rix - Useless an AFL palyer only ever VFL caliber

Birss - Handy and not our worst just too slow for some teams.

Baker - Is our linchpin missing him dearly when he is on song he creates so much and stops so much

McQualter - Too slow not even worst of the spot left by Gtrain. Should have left the spot for Attard when fit

Blake - handy if he never gets a possession he is a ready made turnover

Definately evidence of poor recruiting over the last 5 years especially. Too many ordinary players kept on the list, who were never going to help the club to a premiership.

Absolute deadwood:

L. Fisher - Trade. Sydney will have him and probably get the best from him. We won't.
C Jones - Delist. He's too old and has reached his potential - and it's crap.
Fiora - Delist. Looked like he'd make it last year, but hasn't kicked on. All over.
Gwilt - Delist. Had his chance. We need footballers, not projects.
Gehrig - Delist. Now hopeless.
Ferguson - Should never have been redrafted. VFL only.
Rix - Delist. Hopeless.
Birss - Delist. Horrible by foot and far too one-sided, even if he has a go.
Blake - Delist. Wouldn't get a game in any other AFL club.

Throw in Attard (massively overrated), Milne, Dempster, Howard, McQualter, screw me...

Can you believe how many crap players we have?

Too many plodders in key roles. The small/mid defenders are slow as wet weeks & are destroyed by quicker forwards.

L.Fisher- the game has passed him by & should only remain on the list as a tagger against sides with slow players to tag.

Dempster is a clone on Leigh & only one of the two should in the side at any time.

Gram- doesn't use his pace at all anymore & is being coached terribly. Looks scared to put his body in & has no intensity. Needs to be refreshed by a re-positioning or an extended run at Casey. It worked for Joel Bowden. Learn to tackle & work your butt off or stay in the VFL.

Montagna- Allegedly our bright spot pace wise in a tough but very slow midfield. Another who doesn't care for tackling and is one of the guilty ones who can't hit a target going forward. I'd suggest a run as a small forward but his defensive pressure is about as good as Gram's.

Birss- Can't be too hard on Birss as it at least looks like he is having a go. Is a few yards of pace short of being a good option as a tagger. One of the very few capable of kicking a goal.

Hayes- Outstanding commitment & determination. Being let down by others too often. Along with Bally the only one capable of tackling an opponent & actually making it stick.

Ball- See above but add sub par disposal. Just needs to hit targets by foot. If only he had the footskills of Simon Black.

Banger- Just amazing. Very sad that he is still relied upon to be the man.

Dal- Getting better but still doesn't influence games like he should. Should be made to watch 100 hours of Simon Black video to see how good he should be.

Milne- An easy target but should be the icing on the cake. Poor forward set up rarely puts him in dangerous positions & has the ball kicked to him appallingly.

Roo- Obviously playing hurt & very low on confidence. Time to free him up, play him up the ground a bit.

Kosi- Showed some signs today but still looks to give the ball off when in goal scoring range. Needs to just get angry & kick the bloody goal. Be selfish! Be the man Kosi!

Can't be stuffed doing anymore.

Everyone knows that we need pace. We also need multiple top ten picks to get more than one youngster that has footy nous to go with the pace. Time to make some big decisions and bite the bullet with someone with a high trade value. Who will it be? Who can show that they are indispensable?

Sadly agree with most of that.

As you go down that list ask yourself IF many would be snapped up at other clubs?

Nup.

We have some changes to make - good news is we DO have some quality in the core to build on....we just havent added to that over th last 5 yrs.

IMO this is completely wrong.. It is our top 10 thats the problem, its no.s 14 to 22 in the team that we are getting absolutely zero output from... Roo, Kosi, Lenny, Harvs etc cannot carry the team on their back..

They need the Blakes, Grams, L. Fishers etc to atleast break even in their possies to ease the load... Then the cream of Dal etc rises to the top..

Judd at the blues is a classis example of this... without the suport crew, his ust a good player, not great....
