Good to see him preparing for life after football.

He will be delisted at the end of the year, but hey, he's played more games of AFL football than me, would have made some great friends and can now look to pursue his career in the corporate sector.

All the best lad.

King won't retire, neither will Gardiner.

Rix will be cut at the end of the year. If anyone wants to put money down for a bet, I'm up for it. My investment property needs paying off.

I just don't see the need to be pre-empting the changing list just 8 games in- especially when given the last 48 hours or so the future can change -
life can get in the way.....- as I keep getting told.

But then I detest the end of the year and trade time anyway- unlike some who love it - each to their own
When or if Rixy is not with us I will wish him well- but for now I will wish him well next week .

Well done Michael Rix! Congratulations!

It doesn't surprise me that he has done well academically - his column in Saints Central was inredibly well written and funny. He seems very smart. Good to see someone from our team succeeding this way.

IMHO King will retire, and Rixy will have to be kept (that is if he wants to keep playing)

If King retires Rix will still not be kept. I dont King will retire after one year unless he hardly plays again this year.

it's pleasing to hear many of our team are doing degrees of some sort- and ALL footballers now ahve to be doing either a course or two or working outside their football-

Jason Blake, Luke Ball, and Matty Maguire are just a few doing higher level degrees. But pretty sure many more are or have.

Quality individual who makes the most of his opportunities and skills. Never lacks in endeavour. But will never be an AFL quality ruckman.

Smart move by them.....in between training and games they generally do have enough time to squeeze something else into their lives.....so why not do a degree.....and for someone like Goose who is having a shocking run with injuries, what happens down the track if hes told he can never play again?.....he has something to fall back into.

Great work Rix.

What about the RUX barks?

You must be on some decent medication....first you've gone soft on GT now you've given up on Rixxy's footy career

He'll make a great engineer.

Loading up on Uni degrees while playing footy is a great way to secure your future. Timetables are usually pretty flexible and most courses aren't too demanding of time (if you're good enough to do without being hand fed).

Maybe this is why he's no good as a ruckman.... he's too smart. :D

Congrats, Rixy, good stuff.

Why would King retire?

Unless he has another serious injury, I cant think of a reason why he'd walk away now. When he's played he's been very good - especially in tandem with Gardiner.
