Elites

Post: # 557254Post AlpineStars »

A month or so ago there was a topic asking how many elite players we had on our list, I would be interested to know what people thought on this years form. I would suggest we have 1 and he wears number 7. There are some with the potential but not the form or consistency this year.

For Reiwoldt's critics (and I list anyone who doesn't think he's elite as a critic):

Of the players with 15 goals or more (a 4 way tie for 11th), Riewoldt is:
#2 in accuracy (though if we open it up to top 20, McKinley has kicked 14.2, S Burgoyne 14.3, and Nathan Brown 13.3) behind Nathan Thompson.
#1 in goal assists (tied with Steve Johnson).
#2 in marks (tied with Medhurst)
#3 in contested marks (Behind Richardson and Franklin)

Overall, he is:
#11 in goals
#7 (tied with a bunch) in goal assists
#4 (tied) in Marks
#3 in contested marks.

He's elite.

Bam, agree wtith your point, but all those stats do nothing but confuse.. 1st in goal assists for the top 11 goals kickers but 7th overall?!?!.. I get the point, but stats arnt necassary to prove it..

Roo is in the elite catagory; clearly top 10 player in the comp, even on this years form (and he clearly isnt 100%)..

Agree with the original point also, with Lenny as elite..

I would add Sam Fisher close to the mark, as is Max on this years form... Before the season started i had serios question marks whether max could cut the mustard... He has been supurb all year as our key defensive stopper..

Roo, Lenny, Max... Chips close behind... 5th is Joey, but not quite elite yet..

Maybe we are harsher on Roo because we all think he could play better than he is, his stats maybe ok for some but for a player with his talent maybe they should be better.

We have two A graders but only Roo is in the top echelon of players.

Lenny is a great player but he can't change the result of a game in the

same way that others in the comp can.

I honestly think the key to success at a footy club is your players form 12-22. - obviously this group changes from week to week. BUT

our bottom 10 at any one time are pretty dodgy.
our bottom 4 are generally woeful.

need 22 contributors. we are lucky to get 12 most weeks.

i don't think we can truly judge our players at the moment, i believe they're not being allowed to play to the full ability

I threw up the stats because his inclusion has been questioned recently.

I included both leading goalkicker and general rankings to add context.... top 11 goalkickers (11 chosen to show his ranking in this category overall) because that group is going to be forwards, those tasked with the same responsibilities as Reiwoldt, primarily around finishing the work of the team by creating and converting goals. When we take a statistic like Goal Assists, it's going to correlate highly to Inside 50s, where midfielders will rate very highly (the only non mid ahead of Roo for GA is Tredrea)... the long leading forward will be tasked with both assists and goals to get a picture of their contribution.

If I have gone past the point of painting a clear picture and erred on the side of too much information, I apologise... it's simply that there are so many numbers available to tell us that Reiwoldt is elite I thought I'd throw up enough to get past the "lies, damned lies, and statistics" bandwagoners.

Roo, Lenny, Dal and Max are all elite at their position. If they're performing under that level right now, then something has to be done to rectify that. IMO all except Max are performing under their best.

Yeah nah pleasing positive
