Ten years on from the Alves sacking and the downward spiral are we seeing it all over again? Does football need a strong St Kilda as much as it needs a strong Carlton? (On the way BACK!!!!!)

You are an self-confessed Carlton fan dank...so any further gloating on this STKILDA forum will mark you as a troll and you will be banned. Ive already deleted one of your posts which was blatant pro-Carlton gloating

First and last warning.

St Kilda is a bit like Richmond lite wrt support

we have a massive latent support as well as a solid unmoveable core of about 20,000 people.

Richmond you can add about 5,000 to 10,000 to st kilda's numbers.

when st kilda are rolling well, expect big numbers.

97 prelim v north there were maybe 70,000 saints to 15,000 north fans.

92 eliminator v Collingwood at waverly it was about 30k/30k each way.

we aren't a big 4, we lack the corporate support of essendon, collingwood, carlton and richmond.

However st kilda for all its lack of success is probably just 1 rung below the big 4 in support.

Despite a lack of success we supercede melbourne, hawthorn, north, footscray quite easily.

although when we fail, we tend to drop off faster, a bit like richmond.

if st kilda get say 2 premierships in 5 or 6 years, expect crowds to fill the stadiums regularly for a decade, as happened in the past.

IMO the AFL has handed Sydney and Brisbane flags, and will help west sydney and gold coast, while missing on teh $$ available form facilitating a richmond or st kilda premiership.

as for North, $$$$$$ have flowed the way of north and despite success they are at their peak membership now, they'll struggle to get much past it.

Unfortunately the majority of our supporters are fickle front-runners.

that as maybe, but the same could be said for a number of clubs.

I'd rather be in st kilda's situation than say north (they'll be struggling to top this years membership), the dogs, or melbourne.

hawks built a massive support during their halcyon years of the late 70s to late 90s, but they vanished like quicksilver, although it seems to have stabilised now.

Essendon, carlton, collingwood have always been on or around the $$ and the members.

Many many people are latent st kilda supporters.

I've mentioned in the past at auskick that st kilda would be no.3 or no.4 in shirts.

Richmond and collingwood clearly way ahead of everyone else.
