Raph will get better and better, and we shouldn't give a stuff how he looks, just play him. The coach rates him, the players rate him, let him do his stuff.Teflon wrote:..its been a while since Ive read anyone say Raph was the standout in a game...

"being rated on potential" doesnt crack it for a game week in week out - you need effort, intensity. Raph at times is just to laid back for mine so maybe a stint here and a shot up fwd can rejuvinate him. Hope so cause Im still waiting for all this "talent" to come out.

Maybe. or maybe he at least just first needs to get to "excel" for some consecutive time AT ALL cause for me hes just not been consistent and doesnt seem to know what is required of him to do that.satchmo wrote:He needs to play at the top level. He'll never excel in the VFL, he'll just do his job. By the time we need him due to depth, he'll need weeks to pick up the tempo.

I seem to recall none other than the Coach mentioning last year that he saw R. Clarke and Gilbert are running 6 foot 3" mid-fielders. Gilbert is 194cm and R. Clarke 189cm.
I would add given we can spare Gilbert from our defence (once Max goes - and an alternate full back to Gilbert would suite us just fine - but who?).
The playing of R. Clarke as a defender is part of the education.
Once he returns to the league side, which will not be too far off, he will be thrown everywhere.
Forward, mid and back.
The Coach knows exactly what he has got in R. Clarke, and he is putting the education into him.
Just you wait and see!

Yeah, I think that's it. I'm sure that he's a gun, and they are just giving him a tweak !To the top wrote: The Coach knows exactly what he has got in R. Clarke, and he is putting the education into him.

I also think that it's hard to judge these players without knowing what specific instructions they are given for the game.
Of course there are no guarantees, but I reckon he'll be worth the patience.

so many opportunities? this is the first year he has had a preseason behind him and the first time he has played constant football.clarky449 wrote:Raph has had so many oppurtunities but yet doesnt deliver at AFL Level
The kid could be anything, and with confidence behind him could play a roaming HF/wing very very well.

Ah didnt notice him huge amounts dan...to be truthful tassie gave casey a bit of a bath in the middle for a fair bit of the game. well until raph moved in there in the last.Dan Warna wrote:how did mini go? or was he a non entity in this game?
There was more than potential in todays game from raph...he gave off about five passes in the first half to a player who then kicked a goal. If players around raph can clear him some space he will produce the goods....i am a big fan after yesterdays performance.
Whilst Im rapt Raph played well, I still have some reservations.
Watching him at AFL Level, his weak point is his decision making. No-one can question he has all the physical skills required to make it, he's been a gun at every level bar AFL. Once at AFL however, the time you have to decide on options is slashed and thats where Raph falls down. Id fully expect him to dominate at a lower level, because you do get that extra time to decide what to do.
Lets hope he builds his confidence over the coming weeks to a point where his first options are the right ones and he has the confidence to take them. THEN we will see Raph's true potential at AFL Level be realised.

Because 9 times out of ten, experience fixes that problem.
Remember, the bloke has only played something like 39 games.

Ben McEvoy again impressed being the sole ruckman in the side, and having rucking duties for most of the day. He is showing maturity well beyond his age and is a big future prospect for St. Kilda. >>>>>>>>>>>
Raphael Clarke won the Best on Ground ANZAC day medal for the Scorpions side, as selected by the coaching panel and will no doubt be pushing for St. Kilda selection.
