Will Bakes win the ANZAC Medal ?
Oh sorry, just checked the draw, and it seems we aren't playing tomorrow.
Maybe we will play on ANZAC day next year.
I can't remember the last time a StKilda player won this prestigious medal ?

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Good get.cowboy18 wrote:Mark McGough.
I can't help but feel that because Harve's never won even one ANZAC medal whereas Hird won about three, that on balance Hird must go down as the superior player.

Why do Collingwood play on Anzac day when they are one of four teams who did not disband during the whole of the Great War where the Anzac legend was born?
In 1916 Collingwood were in the competition while six other teams did not field teams while their brave young men in the trenches.
Collingwood bravely won the premiership in 1917.
Lest we forget.

That's exactly right.Saints43 wrote:Why do Collingwood play on Anzac day when they are one of four teams who did not disband during the whole of the Great War where the Anzac legend was born?

And worth pointing out that the Govt at the time asked all the clubs to suspend playing as a mark of respect to the troops.
That is why we withdrew.
The same cannot be said of Collingwood, Carlton, Fitzroy and Richmond.
Some cheap and stained premierships.

Your sarcasm echoes my sentiments. Either that or the AFL has the power to change history, but I'm sure that fans/players of clubs other than Coll, Ess, Geel & Freo made the ultimate sacrifice during the wars/conflicts that Australia has participated in.Enrico_Misso wrote:Oh sorry, just checked the draw, and it seems we aren't playing tomorrow.

The real cynic in me suggests that Bruce Ruxton sold the blood of those diggers and Demetriou is lining his pockets as a result !!

i said it late last year we had the option of playing in the Anzac day game against Freo as originally they pitched it to the AFL as a Freo Saints game or a Freo Hawthorn in the end the AFL agreed to Freo Geelong

Makes me laugh when I see them carrying on about how special the Anzac Medal is - a medal struck between two teams that is supposedly held in such high regard, but cuts out the possibility of 14 teams players' winning it.
The Anzac Medal, to give it TRUE worth and value, should be awarded to the winner of the Anzac Round Army Medal, awarded to a player from any of 16 clubs who has shown courage, spirit etc.
Big flowering deal that James Turd is a triple Anzac Medal winner.
Means nothing in that monopolistic context.
