Now that would be interesting - Kerr joining Hayes, Dal, Joey, Armo etc in the midfield.

What a load of bollocks.

Unless it's some sort of encoded message from Kerr's manager who is looking to set up an end of year trade, I don't get the argument: a club has lost two of its three biggest stars, so they might as well make a job lot of it and trade the third in order to get two draft picks with which you might get two, one or zero players as good as Kerr in 3-5 years time.

I think many people in the AFL world are becoming far too obsessed with the draft - sometimes to the extent of being more interested in it than in what happens on the field during the season. It's a bit like spending all your time pouring over porn and dating sites rather than getting down to the pub and chatting up some real girls.

kerr was an idiot but unlike cousins, and f.ebola he does seem to have turned it around.

He is a quality talent of a similar ilk and style to Lenny hayes, a quiet and effective accumulator with enough skill to cover his lack of raw pace, hard at the ball and the opposition player.

cost? starting price of 500k given clowns like nick stevens and jeff farmer go for that.

probably looking at 700k plus.

getting from WCE, expensive, real expensive, they'll want an equivalent player and or draft picks.

looking down our list they'll be eyeballing guys like dal santo, goddard, reiwoldt etc, guys around 22 to 26 in the marquee status.

Kerr, if he is an idiot like cousins, has managed to keep himself relatively clean for a couple of years and when taunted, managed not to make a complete dick of himself.

if he is clean/drug free/ready to move, st kilda should have a look at this, but not so to cripple the club.

I reckon kerr has 5 to 8 years (so 150 games to play in the RW&B)

he will cost a pretty penny and will probably be the second most expensive player on our list behind reiwoldt, and will cost players and/or draft picks to get.

St kilda would be remiss to not investigate, but we would also be fools to cripple the club to get him. Judd makes carlton competitive, not a premiership side, nathan brown makes richmond competitive, not a premiership side.

IMO we should avoid getting into a bidding war for him, Collinwood and essendon will offer him 1m plus (include off contract enticements) which will be ahrd to compete with.

Very good point although I do understand this trade. Kerr atm is a tradable commodity, next year his contract ends and he wont be. Given that West Coast will not be a contender this or even next year why not make the most of your resources. I do agree that the draft is still a bit of a lottery but it's the system in place. Better in my opinion to trade for young players who have potential and have shown they can play at AFL level. Anyone read Moneyball?

Well, I agree with Meher - no way will they release a 25yo gun, inside mid-fielder at this stage, having just lost 2 other guns.

The draft will not deliver them a Kerr right away - he is at his peak in terms of his age and experience.

What a load of crap. The author is talking like West Coast are undergoing a massive rebuild and that they need to blow up their list ala Hawthorn 4 years ago.

Once they get Priddis back they'll start winning more games, and get the Big Q back in form, they'll start winning more games...they'll be back in the 8 next year easy!

Don't forget to read this line: "If Kerr really is interested in a move east ..." and there have been rumours.

Didn't WCE manage Kerr's development right through from a young rookie? ... they will only trade him if he insists and without the article padding it's an interesting point ... but there are a lot of "ifs" ... a quiet news day topic me thinks.

I would perform acts of self-mutilation to have him playing for us.

Superstar of the highest calibre. Would get the best out of so many of our midfielders.

its interesting how this Kerr stuff has come out now from source at the eagles last year Kerr had sme what of a falling out with some club officals about his choice of timing to have hand surgery the club felt he could wait until the end of the finals to have it done where as Kerr didnt want to risk permenent damage .... a few people at the eagles saw it as a cop out by kerr not putting the team first

but to my knowllege Kerr made his peace with those people and has no problems with the eagles at this point ... i think its more to do with now Judd and cousins are gone his manager is tring to maximise his worth but chucking his name around to a few vic clubs

I don't want to even speculate. But since you asked...;)

Well, Judd was worth 3, 20 & Josh Kennedy. IMO, that was a bargain, but the value of draft picks has shot up in recent times.

While not as good as Judd, Kerr isn't out of contract, meaning there's no onus on West Coast to trade him = the price would only be a fraction lower.

I'd give up our first pick, second pick, and Sam Gilbert (watch me get murdered for offering up the original SS lovechild).

To ensure we weren't getting left behind at draft week, I'd cut heaps from our list (Blake, Ferguson, Rix, Gwilt, McQualter, Jones and Birss) and really go hard at the lower reaches of the draft and rookie list.

I suppose the Eagles do need to take stock... but with the kids in their system, I'd expect them to be competitive while Kerr is still playing. He's the player they build around, not an assett that would be wasted by keeping him.

Yes, he'd be worth a lot, but it's a big ask to expect you get another star of his caliber with the return.

At this stage if I'm West Coast, I'm shopping anyone 28 or older, but I want Kerr around long term. I want the kids to idolise and emulate everything he does on the field. I want him setting the example of what's possible on the field AND at training, and I want him to be hero-worshipped by the fans to inspire loyalty in my list.

IMO, add 2 years to the rebuild if they move Kerr. They go from it being likely that they're still figuring it out in 2010 with the Gold Coast joining the comp to probably.

Not a bad point about 2010, though.

It will be an awful period to be down in the dumps - the drafts will be raped by GC & possibly WS.

Clubs should stock themselves with enough talent to get through the talent drought.

Not a bad call.

Id look at our first pick and players like Gilbert and Raph Clarke - and im a big fan of Raph.

We have to be careful with our trading, I wouldnt want to give up X as hes clearly been our best "outside" mid this season. Hes been getting the ball and running with it, hes quick and has pretty decent skills.

Kerr, while fast, isnt exactly a jet, and we cant afford to give up our best runners for another ball winner (as good as he would be).

Would love to have Kerr, but I'm really not sure what I would be willing to give up in return...
The players who i don't see on our list next year are...
Aaron Fiora
Matthew Ferguson
James Gwilt
Fraser Gehrig
and the possibility of Harvey and Hudghton.

Hayes would be getting close to being able to go on the verteran list now wouldn't he?, if so that would really free up some cash for us. So IMO we have the money to afford him but the question is, what are we willing to give up to get him here... For me, Our first and second picks are a definite, another first or early second round rick would be handy to make that trade go through, but then, how do we get that, the only player I can see of any worth would be Gilbert, is he worth the chop to get Kerr?

My lineup next year would be... (assuming all those players leave and Kerr comes)

FB: Baker Maguire L.Fisher
HB: Goddard S.Fisher Gram
C: Montagna Dal Santo Xavier
HF: Schneider Riewoldt C.Gardiner
FF: Milne Koschiztke Ball
R: M. Gardiner Hayes Kerr
I/C: S.King Geary Armitage J.Allen
Emg: McEvoy, Raph, Dempster

If we believe that, that team is good enough to win a flag, we should do whatever it takes to make that deal happen...

We traded Sierakowski and pick 18 for Fraser Gehrig. The Eagles used that pick on Kerr.

Only fair now that they trade us Kerr for Fraser. They could throw Siera into the mix as well. Always room for another old ruckman.

getting FG was when we had them over a barrel and FG wanted to come to us, this year we wont have that luxury.

not sure pick 80 or whatever will be better than mcqualter.

not sure pick 81 will be better than gwilt.

How on earth did you come to that conclusion?

Kerr is a quick, damaging player more in the mould of Shaun Burgoyne. Can play as an excellent rover in the clearances and tries to break lines whenever he gets to footy.

Nothing like Lenny Hayes style-wise.

I would like to have him at St Kilda, but not at the price he would demand. It would mean having to trade our first round pick and another quality player (for an extra first round pick) for him. We need to stop going for quick fixes and focus on drafting our own talent.

I dont think he is that much faster if he is faster than lenny hayes.

lenny does win a tonne of clearances, does carry the ball a fair bit, and does burst through with judicious use of his pace.

I dont think Kerr gets caught any less tahn lenny does does, I've seen him brought down quite regularly.

concur on the last paragraph, though Kerr would be a 150 gamer plus at st kilda given his age and lack of real worries with regard to injury.

Living in dream world gents?

Kerr wont be moving east. He is too valuable to the Weagles and as mentioned before, will be integral to the success of new players to come to the Eagles at the "House of Percentage".

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency
