How tough is Harves!

Post: # 553315Post Mr Magic »

I heard this morning on Hungry For Sport that Ottens' mystery problem with his foot that has kept him out all year is a 'planter fascia' (sp?).

Isn't this the same problem Harves had a couple of years ago which he 'fixed' by repeatedly jumping on his foot until he 'broke' the 'planter fascia'?

Yes the story is true but I have spoken with an ex-Saints Club Doc about it and he was quite frankly horrified by Harvey's self-treatment.

According to the Doc it could easily have gone horribly wrong and ended his career then and there.

Harvs is not the only one we should put in the tough category regarding this particular injury. If I recall correctly, Fraser Gehrig had a similar injury a few years ago (might even have been the year he topped the 100). He kept playing with it and it snapped during a game !!

MMM interviewed Ottens over the weekend and asked him if he considered doing the same as banger and his doc told him "it was too far gone" to help Ottens in his circumstance, im sure Ottens had a rye smile when he said that

2002 or 2003, had just started playing at FF, was doing ok but not great then his PF snapped at the start of a game against freo and kicked 5 goals? for the match and never left FF after that.

I can tell you its a killer i had the op last year to get it fixed, the pain is like nothing else. The doctor actually mentioned to me before i had surgery that Harvs jumped off the table but wouldnt advise anyone on doing the same

Yeo, he's an absolute freak of nature our Harvs... we are privileged to have watched him over the years..

Don't forget Sam Fisher in the '05 QF win over the Crows playing on with a broken foot...that was courageous. Him, Harvs and Dal won that game almost single-handedly.

Harvey actually cut his own foot off then sewed it back on with cotton string to repair it.

Ex-Saints club Doctor who was responsible for our injury management?

Some of the pre-emptive treatments went horribly wrong, and we had too many injuries.

No...he was before that era......and was not the club Doc when Harvey treated himself.

He was not that glowing about the pre-RL era in terms of a number of issues including lack of individual player conditioning, not seeking medical advice when it should have been.......and lack medical and pscychological input into recruiting which meant that players were considered who should have had lines drawn through their names...but that is another story.
