just heard Caro on classified cr2ping on about this non event.

What a beat up...and geez shes a trollope.

Riewoldt stated a fact - not a nice one - but a fact. Nothing to do with racism. I hate this political cr2ppola.

Ross definitely knows his stuff. Was plucking out figures left right and centre and had a pretty good handle on pretty much anything. Could pinpoint moments in past games etc when certain events happened.

Re Dal, said that the improvement was mostly on when he doesn't have the ball, they are aware this is an issue but he is improving, obviously good with the ball so not as concerned with that area

I'm starting to get warm and fuzzy inside again. The main thing that separated Geelong from the rest last year was the work their teammates did for each other.. blocking, shepherding, providing options, making space etc. Now that M Voss has prompted a little heart to heart (and followed it up with a pile of crap today by all reports..) it looks like we're improving in this area, the coaching staff have got it spot on, despite a couple of injuries the medical staff are doing their bit.. 'tis not all over just yet for 2008!

Dunno, I thought Goose looked like the culprit from watching his lips on the replay. Is it the same thing as saying to an opposition player .."you went 30Km over the speed limit and got a large fine" in other words, stating the obvious. (Talking about the sledge)

I am so sick of everybody bringing up racism with the Riewoldt comments!!
Can somebody explain to me what was racist about it?
Just because the bloke was an aboriginal?, if he called him a d**khead would that have been racist?
IMO it is racist to assume that there was a racial undertone due to the content of the sledge, to me that suggests that the individual believes 'wife bashing' to be unique to aboriginals which clearly isn't the case...
No-one has mentioned racism in that context....Except you.

When has racism been mentioned? I havent heard anyone say that.
Nobody has actually come out and called Roo a racist, it is the fact that racism always comes up, on on the couch just then they referenced to the Headland incident of last year and said something along the lines of "and that didn't involve racial vilification", so he basically alluded to the comment being racially driven...

Another time where it was brought up was on before the game and it has been brought up a few times on talkback radio.
You really don't have a clue do you....

Can't believe im doing this but I'll attempt to explain it for the simple minded. They wern't suggesting it was racist, they were making the point that racial and religious sledges are not the only forms of vilification that the AFL can act on....As shown in the Headland case.

In fact, even simpler....Why do you think they are referencing the Headland case in the first place. Its to draw the comparisons that BOTH instances DON'T touch the boundaries or racial nor religious vilification.

I would suggest to settle down, and not feel as if you need to go on a war path for human rights just because the word 'racial' is used.

Montgomery v Ramanauskas last year wasn't racial or religious.

It went as far as mediation.

Because Ramanauskas felt aggrieved by what was said to him.
Apparently Lovett wasn't/isn't.

Also I think it's a stretch to compare what Montgomery sledged Rama with to what Roo sledged Lovett with.
What happened to Rama was a health issue that was not self-inflicted.
Lovett brought his 'troubles' upon himself.

In the same vein are Caro/Voss suggesting that the following are out of bounds for sledging:-

Didak riding in the car with an alleged murderer firing shots.

Fevola urinating on a shop window in public
Fevola assaulting a barman

Johnson urinating on a police station

Kerr 'assaulting' patrons at a nightclub

Cousins for alleged drug use

Gardiner for drink driving

Steve Johnson for his many indiscretions

Neitz for 'assaulting' a cabbie whilst drunk

Milne/Montagna for their infamous sexcapade (incidentally found no case to answer, unlike Lovett)

Farmer for his many indiscretions

Tarrant 'assaulting' a patron at a nightclub.

Voss, Black, Gehrig, Lawrence getting into a fight at a nightclub resulting in charges being laid.

Do I need to go on?

Just getting back to Ross . . . it was definately one of his better performances in the media so far.

At least I didn't fall asleep through this one (only just)

It almost seemed to me like Ross had been briefed on what he was going to be asked but maybe Mike and Robert are just that predictable.

One thing I'll give Ross is that he doesn't hang his players out to dry in the media. I'm sure they appreciate that.

filling a few bits in- seeing as On the couch website haven't added a video yet
new info underlined

discussed-
Q: tough week- slipped of the media hyped mantle-football world expectation-
A: - Ross explained where the team felt they had fallen down and improved on that on Friday Night, as a challenger for the cats- attack ok but defenses poor; soul searching and the players took it on board and pressure through the midfield against essendon was much better

Q:Voss article-
A; broad brush was correct- team has talent that has not really been fulfilled- lots of discussion but the article not mentioned by Ross but leadership group did. ( further expanded but too much to type) Voss article- group has talent- gotten close and never really achieved- the players did speak of how in the past doing it on individual talent and one or other would get them over the line but now need to work more as a team

Q:Dal Santo- sheahan explained his view- much improved-
A: Ross agreed-- explained where he has improved covering for each other- ie cats cover for ablett-Robert said ( assume he means Harvey?) do we cover for dal santo
dalsanto- top five in Coaches award for Ross- getting the ball but work without the ball had not been up to scratch- gets a lot of attention each week, they set such high standards,

Q:Ball- will he get faster etc- sacrifice for the team against essendon-
A:Ross - come along way over the year- very debilitated end of 2007- graduated in as in game time- role is being mixed up- Bally feels fresher after the game at the weekend ,Ball- sharpness yet to come- solid preseason, was beating harvey hayes and dalsato over the season in time trialls averaging 20 posessions and 1 goal per week- he was inside and out against essendon- batters himself each week with his work - need to balance where he is at,

Q;Charlie Gardiner recruited for;;;
A: Charlie recruited himself- (sheahan spoke over so we didn't get the story) 3 talls big story in melb says Ross- double amount of forward fifty tackles which was pleasing with the smaller forward,

Q:Fraser-
A: graduated- strained calf and conditioning well, not dramatically underdone?- why didn't he play last weekend- was never going to play 22 games- he will play this weekend eitherTtassie or AAmi- not automatic he will play with king out -conditoning himself and had impact in first games, 4 goals first rd

Q:rucks- injury prone- maybe never have the two-
A: king 2 weeks- Gards- minor calf with hiccup in rehab- weighing up the risk- back in full training this week

Q:Armitage/ Dempster, Goddard, Maguire- upside of four players to come
A; still building- Gram in midfield, Goddard from where he's at he is good quickness in the middle- dempster, goddard ; Gram through the midfield at the weekend- 4 shots at goal although he missed them

Q:Riewoldt in middle-
A: wing yes for roaming, deeper- 16 disposals and super dangerous- since he played deeper in forward they can leave him on for most of the game there, he could play in middle if things really going wrong-

Q: are you open minded as to where in forward you play roo-
A;looking at what others do- referred to Richo

Q:Tunnelling- affect rr/ship with roos
A:- jk we don't talk- Ross said he hadn't heard it before Sunday- Ross had approached the umpiring dept- happy with their response- CEO- Archie -clearly commented on an issue he thought appropriate- Ross not there to censure the CEO- Ross hadn't spoken to him about tunnelling etc but Archie had been approached about it and obviously Archie was aware and Archie has spoken to swans CEO and all good,

Q:Gards- cousins- interested?
A:- as it must not trivialise what he need to do without including Football at this time - from media over the weekend Ben has a serious issue he needs to concentrate on more than just worrying about where or if he plays football

Q: melee footage and the sledge Mike again reiterated that Leigh/Joey that he was NOT involved in the verbal-
A:Ross had spoken to Leigh before leaving the club - facts reported incorrectly Leigh clearly did not make the comment
look at the footage- nick reiwoldt has been higlighted
the two clubs have spoken- lovett not further, Eessendon happy saints happy- up to authorities- referral to headland case- AFL chosen not to act and Ross said the AFL: have good processes which will and have dealt with these issues leave it too the authorities,

Q:Port rated-
A; yes form against geelong good, brisbane runs can be hard to stop. difficult challenge but up for it.
