Thank you Michael Voss
Vossy's article has been mentioned by a few of the boys and used as ammo for the Essendon game.
Even RL gave it some credit.
On the negative side, it's a shame we need to get motivated still by the media, but heck, 4 points, I'll take it however we can get it at the moment!
I'm feeling a bit more confident about making the eight now, still a few consecutive wins away from being convinced we are top 4 material though....

i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.
Had nothing to do with it.
X said last night that he hadn't read it, there were no copies of the article and the group hadn't even talked about it.
Lyon said it wasn't rocket science and the main points had already been discussed.
Dont take too much from fish wrapping.

Per "The Age" "Hayes said after the match that Voss' comments had been discussed before the game".
Hayes added: "A couple of guys mentioned it before the game and we've had some pretty big discussions this week and I think Vossy's got some merit in what he said".
So that's coming from Lenny.
It's a shame all our players don't read "big" articles about St.Kilda......not sure if there is a team protocal about media stuff, or if it's just up to the individual?

Why? In the long run I'm sure they could be just as distacted as revved up by them. These are professional athletes trying to be the best that they can be. There is something wrong if they need external motivation from the media. I'm sure if RL thinks it neccessary they would be shown it.[/i]saintspremiers wrote:

Joey On game day this morning said a few players commented that voss M could almost have been a fly on the wall at their players meeting on Wednesday when similair issues were raised- not major slefishness but more that they need to trust others to do it as well
many of the players respected what voss says and were interested- not necesarily affected
Nick- roo had sms'd a few to get them to read it on Friday morning
same with Brett- allowed an opinion.
team is aware of how the saints get hyped up by many and then people jump off as quickly and just work on going out there and winning every weekand doing the things that will assist that
( this has been stated by a few players over the last few weeks)- they dont see themselves as automatic finalists.
comment made by panel that milney had gone overboard with the caring and sharing-

From The Hun
SELFISHNESS has proved a strong theme for St Kilda over the past few days. On the morning of Friday's win over Essendon at Telstra Dome, three-time Brisbane premiership captain Michael Voss said too many players at the club had to put their egos aside for the sake of the team.
Saints midfielder Leigh Montagna revealed yesterday that exact topic had preoccupied the team earlier in the week.
"We'd actually discussed that issue during the weekand a few of us even made a joke that Vossy must have been sitting in our team meeting," Montagna told Channel 7's AFL Game Day program yesterday.
"It was pretty spot-on about what he was saying - basically we had a pretty deep conversation with the leadership group and the whole group . . . about what our mindset is like in regards to that selfishness aspect.
"How can we just play better as a team? Geelong are the benchmark at that and that's what we spoke about, how we can play better as a team."
While coach Ross Lyon did not mention the topic immediately before the Essendon game, captain Nick Riewoldt certainly brought Voss's comments to the attention of some teammates.
"I know Nick Riewoldt sent a text message to a few of the leaders - only because we respect Michael Voss and what he says," Montagna said.
"When he says something like that, you've got to take it on board."
Montagna said it was not a matter of players blatantly putting themselves ahead of the team.
He added some senior Saints had to stop thinking they had to do all the hard work themselves.
"It's just little, subtle things - covering a man and sticking with that player, a little subtle block here and there, maybe sacrificing your turn to win the footy to allow your teammate to win the ball," he said.
"They're little, subtle things that we're not quite doing well enough at the moment, that we're addressing.
"We just think sometimes that it's more of a mindset of our better players . . . that when the game is in the balance, they need to do it themselves, rather than do it as a collective group.
"That's more what we spoke about, sharing the workload as opposed to relying on our better players to do the job."
