Clash Strips - What happened to them?
I thought that Essendon was supposed to wear their clash strip against us.
How they are continually allowed to wear red, white and black against us when we are the home team is amazing.
They should wear their predominant red jumper with red shorts.
This is typical of the AFL. Get tough against the weaker teams but go to jelly against the stronger ones. I bet Carlton weren't fined for playing against Essendon in their home strip.
Even Collingwood are playing along now with their predominant white jumper.

Essendon DID wear their clash strip. Along with their WHITE shorts they added some RED to their jumper (sash approx 2mm wider) to add to their normally predominently BLACK jumper. This gave them almost equal ammounts of RED, WHITE & BLACK, with a BLACK back with WHITE numbers
St Kilda's jumper is 3 equal panels of RED, WHITE & BLACK on the front with a BLACK back with WHITE numbers.
Mr Demetriou/Mr Anderson; PLEASE EXPLAIN !!

I still dont understand what all the fuss over clash strips is, All clubs ours included are stupid not to fully embrace clash strips. As long as we maintain the traditional strip as part of the rotations then the marketting value of clash strips is paramount to increasing revenue in my view. More special strips comemorating special events would also be good.
Why not have a Trevor Barker commemorative strip to wear around the anniversary of his death, or a 66 strip to wear a gainst collingwood?
Something predominately black against the dockers over there?
Opportunities.

We shouldn't have to wear white shorts, it was our home game, they should have been forced to wear red shorts with that ridiculus widened sash of last year, don't care how crap it looks, it helps distinguish between players, watching the replay this morning I STILL struggled to tell them apart in contested situations...Otiman wrote:At least give us the white shorts, and essendon in black.

Anderscum and Dimwit are farking idiots not to have prevented the stupid clash of guernseys last night.
I had massive trouble telling them all apart when the ball was in a pack - and let's face it, that's where all the real action takes place - not when it's chippalotto!
I think 46,000 supporters should take a class action against the AFL for not allowing us clear differentiation.
The AFL have LIED to us yet again.
Just wait for the corporate BS spin that comes out of HQ over this one!
And then let's see what happens in Round 22 - yep, it's an Essendon HOME game, and we will have to wear our WHITE guernsey, which doesn't clash.
FFS Essendon, why can't you have a WHITE guernsey also??
Stupid idiots the lot of them.
Makes me furious!

The Bendigo Bombers had a white away jumper in the VFL a couple of years agao and may still have it which involved just a white jumper with the bombers logo in the middle and i think they should use that.
I think last night was one of the most poor efforts jersey wise the AFL has tossed up in a while. Obvious clash and the AFL could not for see that.
I think if the most proud history concious club melbourne can have a clash/away jumper then its pretty porr for that the bombers cant.

5 prelims in 7 years. 40 wins from 49 games.
2009 and 2010 were 2 of the 5 best years ever by the St.Kilda FC.
Thanks for all your efforts Saints.

Wow, there's a comment that's 20 years out of date. But that's what too much focus on tradition will do.aussierules0k wrote:mmm... give any young player a chance to choose the team they'll see glory with and those 2 teams would be near the top of the list.
Number of kids coming out of WA, SA and even QLD, those 2 teams will be right around the middle, edging other VIC teams as they split the high percentage of kids that come out of Victoria...
And I'd be shocked if an of them rated clash jumpers as on the list of reasons why. Tradition with jumpers is hurting Essendon and Collingwood more than anyone else, with the amount of merch they'd sell, they might even have bankrolls in comparison with West Coast and Adelaide.

If a few jumper sales is what's required to keep a club alive, then need I say more?
Collingwood home = Lexus Centre.
Bomber = Windy Hill.
Saints home... somewhere in Frankston.
Say no more.
The ONLY time EVER there was a problem with jumpers was Roos V Filth... on BW TV.
All I care is, WHEN we win the flag, I want us to be wearing our traditional slab jumper.
Hey... why don't we change our logo and motto every few years too?
Just imagine the sales of stubby holders!

I'm agreeing with arOK and otiman -- traditional colours, both ours and the opposition's, are absolutely core values. Water them down and the magic dissipates.
I wouldn't mind a convenient swap -- like last night would have looked more distinct with StK in white shorts and Ess in black -- but I want to see us defeat the enemy in their true deep-history colours. Feels perfect, when it happens.

Gee, can some of you traditional nutters lend me your eyes please?
When I was lasted tested a few years back I had BETTER than 20/20 vision, and I still have trouble picking out players when the likes of Essendon are in their normal guernsey.
So do u guys have the vision of the 6 million dollar man??!
