hate to be negative, but...

Post: # 551367Post fonz_#15 »

what on earth is going on with some of the foot skills at our club?

i hate to single players out, and with 1 of them being my favourite player at the club i hope its clear to see that i am not just unfairly attacking players but..

Jason Gram, X. Clarke and Clint Jones cannot use their opposite sides if their life depended on it. i can give you three occassions where x look lost on his right side and had to cut inside to dispose of the ball with his left foot. i praise him for his game last night, thought he was great, but seriously this is the top level of football and blokes can't execute a skillthat should have been learnt at age 12.

clint jones in general cannot kick, and for that reason he should not be playing as his delivery and kicking for goal stinks.

Grammy is out of sorts, he has been shocking so far this season, but people do have form slumps and i think he will get through it, and he in particular has worried me with his kicking. he can be so reliable, but when his kicking is off, he simply is awful. once in the last quater he delivered a great ball to roo? i think, but we aren't seeing enough of what was once a damaging 60 metre kick. it all comes down to confidence.

that said i am happy with the 4 points, but we still have a lot of work to do.

I think that at present that there is a large lack in confidence and self belief at the club...

Our handball skills are not always flash either....

We need to "click".

On song we area much better team...but last night for eaxmple Gram's last pass to Roo wasa beauty....but most of the rst of his kicks were good awful gambles that they might someohow go vaguely near a saints player.

his shots on goals were terrible too....compare that to the Cat's players last week...

They were slotting them.

Come on Grammy...we know that you can do it!!!!

Hate to be positive but the foot skills of bj and the long penetrating kicks of Goose are really great signs and is straitening up the attack.

Lance or James??

Just about the most accurate in the comp. I'd say. Great to have him back. Doesn't matter how far he kicks it, it always ends up in the arms of a Saints player.

Give them a break, I agree, not every player can be highly skilled.

Gramm must have kicked 4 behinds though and CJ 2.

Maybe this year?

Hmmmm. That means somebody else must have kicked nine behinds. It wasn't Milney was it?

Yes, but unskilled players shouldn't be playing in our team.

When Schneider and Baker come back, I hope that signals the end of the road for Clint Jones and Jason Blake.

Was commenting last night, love every part of Jones game except that fundamental kicking things that's a little important to the game of football...

Dempster looks like he can kick, and he can play Blake's role, so I'd agree with both those outs above.

god i miss aussie jones :(

if u play afl, u should be learning to kick with ya opposite leg.
ive seen blokes handball across themselves because they cant do the motion left handed.
its only practice thats needed.

im still not happy with the way kozi and roo drop the ball onto the boot either.

I think some of it can be contributed to being lazy and undisciplined and not kicking while properly balanced. Sometimes, it is necessary to kick while off balance but Milne seems to kick off one step leaning back all the time while when Gram will fake to kick a couple of times and then have to rush his kick becuase there is pressure. We need to improve this and just become a bit smarter.

Agree that our footskills haven't been too flash so far this year, as evidenced by players such as Gram. Seems like a confidence issue though, with the exception of Jones who simply cannot kick a footy for s***. This area definitely needs to improve if we are going to be of any threat to the competition.

Who the hell is our Goal Kicking Coach?

Do we even have one??

If we keep this nonsense up we are going to lose quite a few matches and compromise our percentage and therefore our place on the ladder.

If we don't why not hire Jason Heatley as he is one of the most accurate kicks for goal in the last 15 years. Even Peter McKenna, who was a "deadeye dick" kick for goal rated Heatley.
Please note that while a rate Heatley as a goal kicker he wasn't that good as a ball gatherer!

Yep, watching BJ kick a ball is poetry in motion. And he's still only 22. In retrospect when he went down against Sydney last year that was the moment our season went down the gurgler.

I'm struggling to think if there is a better, more accurate long pass in the competition at the moment.

I have to agree with you Fonz. I love CJ as you know, but how is his kicking surpose to improve when it is such a problem within the team. I believe John Barker is our forward coach? And its not just our kicking for goal that is a problem. Maybe BJ should give everyone kicking lessons, because he is just magnificant to watch.

And you should definitely be able to kick with your preferred foot.

I love CJ's endeavour and see a possible role for him but to not even get close from 30m dead in front is horrid to watch.
