Ok, Who Would you Recruit?

Post: # 548756Post rodgerfox »

Hypothetical....

Jonothan Brown is available at the start of season 2008.

So is Judd.

And Matthew Scarlett.

Who would you sign up if you could only have one?

The reason I ask, is that this question often puts into perspective where our list issues actually lie.

Do we need J Brown up forward to assist Roo?

Do we need a genuine freak FB who beats his man and gets his own ball - and causes damage when he does?

Or do we really need a fast line breaking midfielder?

For mine, I'd take Scarlett.

With Judd a close second and Brown a very close 3rd.

Maybe three players - We need one more strong body in the backline, and a hard-at-the-ball, strong, middle size half forward and a midfielder or onballer who has goal sense. We are not far off it, but the team is still unbalanced and I expect it will settle when they find the right combination

You're only allowed one of the 3 mentioned.

Big decision. If based on our current and future needs Scarlo (29yo) would have to be the best bet. If we are looking at longer term pick then JB (27yo) or Judd (25yo) would be the best fit purely on their age. Personally i like the way JB plays.

1. Judd

2. Brown

3. Scarlett

Line ball between Judd and Brown, but Judd is two years younger and a quick midfielder which we desperately need to give us some leg speed

Brown at CHF, Kossie at FF or vica virsa, with Riewoldt on the wing running through the midfield ala James Hird is very tempting

Scarlett is 29 yo, enough said

All of the above....for Michael Rix to Carlton and a 3rd and 4th rounder to Geelong and Brisbane 8-)

judd, scarlett, brown

any team would take judd

scarlett still has at least 3-4 years left

brown...why would we want another tall in our team???its not as if kosi would go back, or gehrig...roo playing on a wing is a crock as he is the chf...not a winger...

ive never understood people lamenting over roo's lack of play in the wing...then people whinge he is not close enough to goal???what the...like he guy is damn good but he cant cover 100 meters of the ground all on his lonesome

Brown,
He's the only one of the three that can genuinly win a footy game off his own boot. He is intimidating and the most dominant forward in the game at the moment
Judd is a freak but midfielders aren't any where near as valuable as a brilliant power forward.

Judd

the rest

-----------------------------------

The best player in the competition for mine. Has all the attributes we lack in a single player - line breaker, quick, kicks goals from midfield. With him we'd win the flag.

Scarlett - yeah he's ok but no matchwinner. Brown's a great player, but we already have 3 power forwards we don't need another one. In fact we probably need one less than we currently have.

Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...

Starting a team from scratch: Brown, Judd, Scarlett

Adding to our existing team (Which the OP outlines): Judd, Scarlett, Brown

But what our list really needs is a players of the A Hamill, A Didak, S Johnson mould, to completely make our forward line dangerous. This is the real hole that we are missing up there.

As suggested by another posters, Ferguson is the correct mould within our list. Strong bodied, medium sized. I do believed he was in the forward line in the TAC U18 team of the year!

Yes he played forward 6 years ago. He is a backman now because he wasnt good enough as a forward. If he plays it will be as a backman afterall they dont even try him forward for Casey so we expect him to come into AFL and play forward. He will be straight out again.

Judd.

We need more mid-field depth. Judd is only 25. He's hard at it.
Judd easily.

I see your point re Ferguson Plugger66. Maybe what they should be doing is playing him up forward for the Scorpions to see how he goes. Just because our coaches have been determined to make a defender out of him does not mean he cant play forward. Look at Gehrig, several years at Fb then dual Coleman medalist.

Thats fine but lets not pick him in a position he hasnt played for 5 years. Who wins out of that. Not the saints or him.

Definitely Judd. There is nothing wrong with our talls, we just lack smarts, pace and skill in the midfield.

Brown. Not just because he is the best player in the competition, but because he is a great leader and would give us the enforcer we so sorely lack.

Jonathon Brown for sure.

Stick him down at full forward, with him double or triple teamed Roo would have to be manned up 1 on 1, and few can do that job over and over given Nicks run.
Chances are he would get enough shots on goal to make a significant contribution,. even if he ended up kicking 6.8.
