Despite all the hype from the draft of 2000 on, in the right here and now for all the promise the sad reality is that we have only produced two star footballers in this period:
*Roo
*Sam Fisher
Dal is very very close...but a mid who regularly gets beaten by a tag cannot be said to be a star player.
BJ looked set to emerge last year when his knee cut him down. He may become a star yet.
Others have shown glimpses or a good year.....but have not sustained it.
Kosi burnt so very very bright in 5 games....plus a Rising star year...but most of the rest of the time has been useful rather than star.
Gram had a stuning year running and bouncing off hb. Now opposition coaches limit his bounces and Gram is content to only roost his kicks rather than deliver the ball.
Getting an occassional BOG I am afraid does not make a player a star. A star plays at or near their maximum potential most weeks.
Sure even the best gets beaten. But too many of our so called stars exhibit yo yo form and are rated by many not on what they mainly deliver, but on what they have once delivered.
Potential I am afraid remains an ugly word at the Saints.....and producing only two genuine stars in 8 years is not good enough.
Shooting Stars...
