Geelong are no good when pressure is applied to them and only kick goals when given space
So correct on geelong. No good under pressure. Once they are 10 goals up they are gone under pressure. Great comment. If only we could get them 15 goals ahead we would have beaten them.
Is it just my imagination, or do you always have to use dripping sarcasm to disagree with someone?

imho its getting pretty tiresome and you are coming across as a know-it-all
Well IMO some people here have no idea and write crap. I am not a know it all its just that I am not an idiot like some people are. I just didnt think you were one of them. Just mind your own business and keep moderating.

So do you deny that Geelong struggled when we were actually working hard to pressure them, or is it all obviously bulls*** because you think it is?

How so? We had 11 scoring shots in the first quarter to their 4. We won the clearances 12 to 3 and their defence could do nothing to stop us when the ball was actually coming into the forward line quickly. They also turned it over on the rebound several times because of their players fumbling under pressure.

Lyon's game plan is very effective when executed to perfection, but unfortunately players aren't robots and they do slow down, making the zoning/flooding/corralling less effective and gaps appear in our defence that Geelong use to move it quickly into their forward line. Whenever they have the ball in space they will have several players presenting for the footy and it is kicked accurately.

If a team fitter than us (most decent teams) implements a similar style to ours in the first quarter then Geelong will struggle.

Well those "idiots who write crap" are just as entitled to their opinion as you are yours....without being belittled with constant sarcasm

This is an Footy fan forum. People are often going to using their hearts instead of their heads when they post. Much as that appears to upset your level-headed unemotional sensibilities, it doesnt make them "idiots" with "no idea" who "write crap".

We are as fit as any team in the AFL. And a game goes for 4 quarters or am I mistaken.

Do you disagree with the comment that when we did put them under pressure their skills fell down ALOT?

Don't worry, plugger66 knows everything and us idiots can go please ourselves

There were numerous Saints cramping up in the last quarter....but I'm not sure fitness was the problem as much as Geelong being consistantly first to the footy due to their superior leg speed

During the first quarter and a half our pressure was intense and their skills fell down. After that our pressure dropped and they got more space. We have 11 scoring shots and should have been further in front.

First quarter and a half = pressure = geelongs skills fell away

Rest of game = less pressure and more space = geelong pinpointed passes and killed us

I'm confused, unless you can argue otherwise logic dictates that when put under pressure geelongs skills fall down....

HAVE I MISSED SOMETHING?

So when we were in front in the second quarter when the real pressure was on they were no good. All right you win. Imagine when their skills dont fall down.

For such a 'know it all' a lot of things sure do fly over your head.

Pressure = chasing, tackling, defensive running, 1%ers

In the FIRST quarter, our pressure was good and Geelong's skills were bad.
After the first quarter, our pressure was bad and Geelong's skills were good.

Just read over that a few times and you might get it.

ever watched tennis? They have a good way of showing errors

there are unforced errors and forced errors. My arguement is that when we placed tackling and harrasing pressure on them geelong made forced errors. When we stopped putting pressure on they did not commit many unforced errors.

Therefore I argue that when put under physical pressure, geelong make errors. It means we need to work on pressuring them for the full 5 quarters and also make them pay when they do make those errors (see the very gettable goals we missed in the first quarter).
