gilbert. looks as though he'd make a better than average half forward. a good foil for riewoldt (and boy does he need one). kicked a couple of nice goals.
goose: good to see the big guy back out there. he'll be better for the run.
despite losing by 42 points we had only two fewer scoring shots. that's positive in the sense that it gives us something to work on.
i won't start on the negatives. enough threads on that already

Have to agree with al mentioned so far...
Goose was ok, and will get much much better...
Gilb was great and gets unfairly criticised due to his ungainly action..
CJ.. Have to admit, was not a fan, but love the way he goes about it... Way ahead of many other atm...
Kosi was fantastic... His stats may not show it, but i feel he was in our best 3... increadible player..

Jones is good, and I'm quite happy with him as a defensive forward or tagger, but I wish he could kick better. He'd be a superb player if he could.
Blindly delusional optimist. Fan of the Blake.

turnovers (poor skills)
poor decision maker
Does not cut the mustard
opposition would love to see him get the pill
Modern game crucifies.................... TURNOVERS
Having a go is not good enough at this level.

really impressed with CJ, if he goes quickly with his kicking, especially long then his kicking is not that bad. His ground level work was very good and should see him keep him position.
Goose was great in his first game back.
Lenny was awesome, shame we fall away after him.
Thought gilbert was good forward and put some physical pressure on. Is learning on the job and I am impressed that dispite the fact he is out of form he still makes an impact with his tackling and sheparding.
We were run and use our natural skill and instinct we look fantastic. I just am not sure that there is a game plan otherwise.

he should be doing exactly the same as Ball, get in and under, get the clearences, and also play as a link up man with his hard running
plus, he's about the only guy on our list who can lay a decent tackle

agree. i think our problems stem from continually worrying about what our opponents are doing rather than backing ourselves and taking risks like we used to.Solar wrote:When we run and use our natural skill and instinct we look fantastic.
in other words, don't respond ... create. make the play. take some chances.
let's hope we can rediscover something that approaches that old confidence, arrogance and attitude before the season slips away.

totally agree. And have you noticed that even with this new shut down game plan opposition sides still kick multiple goals against us.bigcarl wrote:agree. i think our problems stem from continually worrying about what our opponents are doing rather than backing ourselves and taking risks like we used to.Solar wrote:When we run and use our natural skill and instinct we look fantastic.

shut down football doesn't work ... at least not for the group we have. all it does is hand the initiative to the opposition and play into their hands.Solar wrote:totally agree. And have you noticed that even with this new shut down game plan opposition sides still kick multiple goals against us.

It is not the gameplan......certainly ASolar wrote:really impressed with CJ, if he goes quickly with his kicking, especially long then his kicking is not that bad. His ground level work was very good and should see him keep him position.

Last week and this week our 1st quarters very good.....
as soon as our intensity is matched or is it the ability to sustain........
our footskills dropped away dramatically
kicking to our players adavatage was horrible
and when our ability to sustain intensity falls away
our genuine lack of leg speed is exposed...
their is a gameplan but we cannot sustain it
our starts last 2 weeks indicate that.

Goose - good to see him back. Thought he did well against Hawkins who is a monster of a lad and a star in the making.
Sam Fisher - another superb defensive game. Is he injured? That would be a huge loss for us.
BJ - another game back; nice to see him getting a bit of a run on the wing - like to see even more of him in the middle - he and Dal are our best users of the ball by foot and need to be on the ball more IMO
Roo - excellent game - always presenting. Had a couple of off weeks, glad that he came back today.
CJ - you always know this lad will give it 110%
Joey - better. Got to keep up the standard.
Hayes - easily BOG for us. A warrior in midfield.
AND as a unit, the midfield were much harder at it. Good to see us dominate the clearances. Hopefully MG will be backl soon and then we will really be motoring.

Positives
Gilbert isn't a crap player, he just isn't a key defender
Kosi can still have a huge impact as a ruckman drifting back
Steven King was a better option than Mark Blake
We won't have to trade/delist any good players to bring in 7-8 kids at the end of the year
Geelong are no good when pressure is applied to them and only kick goals when given space

So correct on geelong. No good under pressure. Once they are 10 goals up they are gone under pressure. Great comment. If only we could get them 15 goals ahead we would have beaten them.mad saint guy wrote:Positives

Saints were running hard, chasing well and harassing Geelong players in the first quarter and Geelong's skill level was worse than ours. They were fumbling, getting caught with the ball and stuffing up kicks.plugger66 wrote:So correct on geelong. No good under pressure. Once they are 10 goals up they are gone under pressure. The pressure fell away in the second quarter, Geelong were allowed to make clean delivery into the forward line and we were gone. Collingwood will beat Geelong.
Is it just my imagination, or do you always have to use dripping sarcasm to disagree with someone?plugger66 wrote:So correct on geelong. No good under pressure.
