Kick-Ins

Post: # 546732Post Spinner »

Anyone else notice that we have absolutely no structure in which to preform our kick ins from opposition behinds?

Been happening for quite a while. What do they do at training because it is clear that this facet of the game hasn't been planned for.

RL get onto it.

I was at the game, and noticed this myself.

Against the 'zone' defence, and without a tall marking target/lead up target, we ALWAYS kick short to the pocket and get cramped up.

There was no attempt at a 'HUDDLE' and to get clear.

There was also no attempt for the kicker to play on - a basic play from a kickout is to have someone shepperd the man on the mark and the kickiner to play-on, run around and boot the ball to the wing. Very simple play yet didn't happen once. Goddard, Dal, Gram, S Fisher, can all kick 55m...

Why don't we play on more and kick long to the wing?!

Yeah I have no idea why. But I also noticed the lack of sructure kicking out. Do we not know what a zone is, when its necessary? blimey.

....bacause it might mean kicking to a contest and this apparently is not allowed.

Lost count of the amount of times we had the ball on defensive 50 and NO-ONE would lead up and provide an option, forcing the player with the ball to chip sideways or backwards in the eternal quest for an uncontested posession.

We took ONE...let me say it again..ONE contested mark in the 1st half.

Conversely,
when we scored a point
by the time I marked the point in my Record and looked up,
the Cats had already moved the ball out of their defensive 50 and were building a quick and dangerous attack.

Everyone has their problems. Remember at the start of todays game Geelong had to rush it through when Fraser pressured them, and on the kick in the ball went over the boundary, which should have been a kick at goal to us, but that idiot cat claimed he touched it.

What do they do at training?

I have been to every open training session for the past 3 years and cannot remember ever seeing any drills that address kicking in after a behind.

They must keep it all secret in the closed training sessions. All this secret closed training is working a treat, as you would all know.

that was great when we were putting that much pressure on their kick in, thats should be the standard from now on, the first quarter to the last quarter, from round 1 to round 22

why is it so hard for that to happen?
